DURHAM MINOR CUP
West End FC produced a magnificent performance to progress to the semi finals with a swashbuckling 2-1 victory away to Hartlepool Headland.
The game was in doubt but the referee decided to go ahead with the tie even though the pitch looked like a paddy field. The Wearsiders were buoyed on by their voicerous support – 52 of them travelled down in high spirits, this giving their side an extra spring in their step and extra motivation.
West End sarted nervously and were not looking like a complete team as mistakes and arguments crept, Headland took note of this and upped the pressure of which finally paid off as they took a deserved lead as David Sanderson headed the ball into his own net from a corner. Further setbacks came as the talismanic Coomber went off injured with a grazed knee and was replaced by new Russian centre forward Mikhail Chinkichenko. The change suited West End better and it showed as they produced some wonderful football on a pitch that was more suited to mud wrestling, albeit they couldn’t take their chances.
Stern words from the West End hierarchy saw them come out all guns blazing and the front two of Bogie and Chinkichenko were causing havoc with their positional sense and off the ball running. West End were camped in their opponents half with the visiting keeper doing yoga whilst waiting to be called upon. The relentless pressure finally paid off as they equalised in stunning fashion, a free kick was awarded 25 yards out and Stephen Bogie signalled to the bench where he was going to put it – and true to his word he thumped it into the stanchion to signal wild celebrations from the players and the Barmy Army. West End were rampant now and went in search of the goal that would the game, Hartlepool to their credit were defending admirably, but on 70 minutes West End were in wonderland as they grabbed the decisive winner. About 25 passes (Liverpool style) were made before Stephen ‘Vanilla Ice’ went on a run and beat two men before crossing for Chinkichenko to slam the ball into the roof of the net. West End saw out the rest of the game dominating possession much to the delight of their supporters who again were fantastic.
The result sees West End into the semi finals and sets up a mouthwatering clash with Hylton CW Juniors.
In the other quarter final that go the go ahead, Hylton CW Juniors stormed into the semi finals as they proved to be too strong for a luckless Hall Farm Blakeneys who succumbed to a 4-1 defeat at the Billy Hardy Centre.
The much eagerly anticipated quarter final tie between Redhouse and Thorney Close Inn was cancelled due to an unplayable pitch.
The Wearside Combination League are now guaranteed a team in the final after the semi final draw was made at Durham FA HQ, this is an amazing achievement for the league itself but credit must be given to the teams in question who have been fantastic and the Committee and fellow clubs are proud of their achievements.

PREMIER DIVISION
Colliery Tavern went goal crazy as they hammered Usworth FC 14-0 in a bad tempered clash.
Usworth’s task was made harder as they were reduced to 9 men after the sending off of both Liam Carnall and Michael Ambler. The Tavern had David Dixon dismissed too.
Despite those set backbacks, it was the Tavern who had their shooting boots on and produced a display of clinical finshing of which Arsenal should take note of. The star of the show was undoubtedly Michael Bulmer who scored six goals, further goals from Gavin Foot (2), Darren Straughan (2), Anthony Stokell (2), David Dixon and stalwart Billy Pemberton saw the Tavern coast home for 3 easy points.
The other scheduled fixture were wiped out by unplayable pitches.
FIRST DIVISION
FC Whitburn produced a battling display as they edged a seven goal thriller winning 4-3 at home to Victoria Gardens.
Whitburn won thanks to goals from Liam Bayles, Ross Toward, Andrew Smith and man of the match Danny Wilson. The Gardeners replied with goals from Ben Stokoe (2) and Adam Wasey and their star man was Ryan Lawson.
The win will hopefully instil some confidence into the young Whitburn side and climb the table with a few more successes.
Oddfellows good form continued as they won 3-1 against FC Chesters at a bog like Leyburn Grove.
Oddfellows started the brighter with some clinical pass and movement coming close to outdoing the Chesters defence and it was Andy Smith who had an early chance for the visitors but he was thwarted by a good save from the keeper work. It was the home side who took the lead against the run of play as Ethan Lee ran through unopposed to calmly slot the ball home after the entire away team stopped to question a referees decision. Rule of thumb is always play to the whistle lads!!
Oddfellows were having the lions share of possession and they finally equalised in bizarre circumstances as a Chesters clearance hit the referee and it fell to goal machine Andy Smith who swivelled and fired in an unstoppable shot past the helpless keeper. The scoreline could have been greater in favour of the visitors had it not been for goalkeepeing heroics from Tom Robason in the Chesters goal.
Chesters were given a rollicking at half time and they started to show improvement in the second with some good passing and attacking play but the final end product was nowhere to be seen. Those misses would return to haunt the home side as Oddfellows took the lead as Chris Rowntree rode two challenges, skin the centre half and then curled in a sublime effort that flew past the outstretched hands of Robason and nestle into the net. Chesters went in search of an equaliser which failed to materialise after some wayward finishing, the game was finally over as a contest as Oddfellows grabbed a killer third goal thanks to Shaun King who lashed the ball home with only his first touch.
A battle royale ensued as East Durham Spartans and Seaham Harkers Bar shared the spoils as both teams produced an excellent game of football in a 2-2 draw.
Lee Wood grabbed both goals for the Spartans, whilst Harkers replied through strikes fom Marc Ruddock and Michael Wilson.
Spartans star man was Jonathan Holland and Liam Sinclair starred for Harkers.
Times Inn have the bragging rights as they came out on top in the local derby against Dray and Horses as they ran out 3-2 winners in a feisty contest.

FIRST DIVISION
The league with programme was decimated due to a combination of bad weather and waterlogged pitches.
The Times Inn continued their impressive season as they recorded another win as they won 4-2 at home to The Saltgrass. It was the Saltgrass who drew first blood as they took the lead as John Hope raced through and dinked the ball over the onrushing keeper, but the Times are made of sterner stuff these days and immediately equalised fromt the kick off. The visitors regained the lead in comical fashion as Hope and Timm combined to set up Chipp who raced through and was one on one with the keeper but his shot stuck in the mud and he managed to land on his backside as he tried to kick the ball, luckily Lewis Spence was on hand to put the ball into the net. Again the Saltgrass switched off and sloppy play allowed Times Inn to equalise righton half time.
The second half was a scappy affair as conditions deteriorated and it Times Inn who took advantage as they scored two more goals to make the final score 4-2.
John Hope was man of the match for the Saltgrass.
Seaham Harkers Bar returned to winning ways as they thumped Park View 5-1.

PREMIER DIVISION
A depleted Hall Farm Blakeneys gained revenged as they produced their best performance of the season as they handed out a 6-3 battering to Redhouse.
The Farm were quick out of the traps and raced into a 2-0 lead thanks to strikes from the prolific Dean Smith. Farm were relentless with Steve Hope rolling back the years with a virtuoso performance, chances were missed by the home side and they lost rythym as they suffered injury blows to key players. This allowed Redhouse to gain momentum and they were right back in the game as they scored twice in a matter of minutes to level the game. The Farm urged on by their gaffer upped their game and one final assault on the visitors goal saw Ross Taylor pounce to give the Farm a 3-2 half time lead.
Bogans men dominated the second half and scored two further goals through Andrew Steele and Dean Smith who scored his hattrick, Redhouse pulled another goal back but Dean Smith wrapped up the game as he scored his fourth goal bringing his season tally to 17.
The win more than pleased Farm boss Lee Bogan who was quoted “The lads deserve the credit for today, they forgot about last weeks shocking performance and stuck to their task despite missing key players and a change in formation,. The lads gave 100% commitment and they were a credit to the club as was referee Rebecca Welsh who handled the game superbly.”
Lee Southern starred for Hall Farm Blakeneys.
In the TWR League Challenge Cup, Hylton CW Juniors proved too strong for Dray and Horses as they ran out easy 6-2 winners.

DURHAM MINOR CUP
Thorney Close Inn produced a major upset in their County Cup tie as they knocked out the holders Shields United 3-2 to progress to the quarter finals.
Thorney started the brighter when a brillant ball in the channel for Paul Brooke to bare down on goal only for Parkin in the Shields goal to pull off an excellent stop Shields United’s 2 Africans up front Assan Jallon and Aristote Guerin were having a awesome tussle with Liam Dunn and Mark Swindle at the back and looked very dangerous, and it was Shields that took the lead on the half hour mark when Assan Jallon got to the byline and crossed for Liam Robertson to stab home in a crowded penalty Area. This sparked the visitors into life and immediately equalised when Paul Brooke went clean through and his effort was saved but Dan Makin was on hand to slam the rebound into the net to sent the supporters wild. Just before half time Thorney took the lead after some great play between Brooke and Lisle saw Makin hit a scorching volley which was well saved and up popped Dale Spence to crack in a half volley. United duly responded and the dangerous Guerin smashed an effort off the crossbar on the stroke of half time.
The second half was more open and Shields started to look threathing on the break and had pace in abundance and Jackson made another great stop. With the game end to end Thorney extended their lead on seventy minutes, the overlapping Rob Brooke crossed perfectly for his brother Paul Brooke to slam home. Chances were squandered by the visitors to wrap up the game, the main culprits were Lisle and Paul Brooke. United then gave themselves a lifeline as they pulled a goal back thanks to a screamer from Assan Jallon. This set up a grandstand finish but the Wearsiders held on to record a famous victory.
Thorney Close Inn have been rewarded with a mouth watering quarter final tie away to highflying Redhouse. It is also worth mentioning that the league has 5 teams in the quarter finals and are guaranteed 2 semi finalists, this is the best showing in the competition from teams in the league. Well Done.

ALAN HOOD MEMORIAL TROPHY
Hylton CW Juniors are having a season to remember as they produced a major upset as they knocked out cup holders West End. The Juniors won a penalty shoot-out after the game finished 3-3 after extra time.
West End started off slowly and were deservedly a goal down after ten minutes thanks to a crisp finish from Lee Cresswell, the cup holders were sparked into life and the freescoring Stephen Bogie equalised after some exhilarating football. Both sides were playing excellent football and it was the West End who took the lead after a fine strike from Jonny Glenwright, the lead didn’t last long as the Juniors equalised as Jordan Monson headed in from a free kick.
West End were given a stern talking to at half time and came out focused on putting the game to bed, confidence was ozzing through the side and after some good play West took the lead as Stephen Bogie bagged his second dof the game. The Juniors then proceeded to bombard the West goal but their efforts were easily dealt with, but with fifteen minutes to go slack defending allowed John Kerry to equalise and send the game into extra time.
Extra time produced not much action as both teams cancelled each other out, it came to penalties and the Juniors nicked it 3-1 after some super stops from keeper Matt Rowan.
Hendon FC got back to winning ways but they needed extra time to progress as they laboured to a 3-1 win against neighbours Hollycarrside.
Hendon took the lead through Keith Lonsdale and they were soon pegged back as Jordan Ewen equalised against the run of play. Extra time came and Mr Turnbull’s men turned on the style as their opponents wilted, goals from Martin Hope and Brian ‘Peg Leg’ Carter secured the win.

TWR COMMERCIAL LEAGUE CHALLENGE CUP
Chesters Athletic were pushed all the way before managing to secure a 3-2 win against a plucky Shiney Row Travellers Rest.
Goals from Richard King and a double from Marc Stephenson sent rob kings men into the next round. Craig Bewick starred for Athletic.
Colliery Tavern produced a battling performance as they edged out Seaham Harkers Bar 3-2 in an entertaining game.
The Tavern found themselves 2-0 up thanks to a quickfire double from man of the match Ben Ward, but Harkers staged a fightback and found themselves on level terms thanks to goals from Darren ‘Razor’ Ruddock and James Lowery.
The game could of gone either way but the Taverns experience shone through and won the game with Anthony Stokell firing the winner.
FC Chesters were down to the bare bones but still managed to progress as they needed extra time to produce a battling 3-2 win at Park View.
The patched up Chesters won the game thanks to strikes from Paul Maw, Stephen Lyndon and Brian Baxter. Park View replied with efforts from Simon Peacock and a Kane Clinton own goal.

PREMIER DIVISION
Hylton CW good form continues as they produced yet another huge win, this time winning 7-0 against basement boys Usworth FC.
The man of the moment Liam Oley showed his predatory skills as he notched four times. Further goals came from Mark Cresswell (2) and Carl Price who also scuffed a penalty.
John Banks was Hylton CW man.
Aquatic Sports produced a battling performance to continue their winning streak and they defeated Hendon Grange 3-1 at the San Siro.
The game got underway with both teams testing each others' defences but no goals were scored. Half way through the first half Aquatic took the lead after Richard Cull placed his header wide of the keeper to make it 1-0 to Aquatic and it wasn't long before it was 2-0 with Mark Fisk finishing well inside the box. Just before half time Hendon had a couple of chances to level the game but Aquatic keeper Kylos saved them both.   The second half started with each team having a couple of half chances but they could not take them. Hendon made a couple of changes and it seemed to spur them on and with about 20minutes to go they got a goal back and then started to put the pressure on Aquatic but with 5 minutes left Alan Palin played a great ball through to Mark Fisk who let the ball come across him and with his left foot placed his shot into the corner of the net for his second goal of the game.
Redhouse kept up their pursuit of the league title as they eased to a 5-3 win against an out of sorts Hall Farm Blakeneys.
Redhouse flew out of the blocks and were soon ahead when great work by Carl Old and Steve Anderson saw the ball played out to Dale Huggins who lashed home from the edge of the box. That lead was soon doubled when Stevie "Weavie" Anderson continued his rich vein of goal scoring form, cutting in past 2 defenders before curling the ball home from 18 yards out.  Redhouse were playing some great stuff and it was no surprise when they soon went 3-0 up, a short corner was played out to John Dixon and his cross was met at the back stick by Neil Middlemiss who fired home on the volley.  Hall Farm however grabbed a barely deserved glimmer of hope when a corner ricocheted around the Redhouse box before being poked home by skipper Lee Southern   The second half saw more of the same as Redhouse went 4-1 up, again great tight interchange around the Hall Farm box lead to Carl Old firing home with a great first time finish.  Old then broke away down the right before crossing for the onrushing Neil Middlemiss to head home and make it 5-1.  At  this point the Redhouse management team of The Moth, Catfish and Tommy ‘Liar’ Bell rang the changes and this seemed to have an effect on their team as they took the foot off the pedal to allow the Farm to pull two goals back through a Cameron Marshall and substitute Andrew Steele.
This was a solid performance from Redhouse who are the only side in the league to be still challenging for all 5 trophies this season.
Carl Middlemiss shone for Redhouse as did Paul Hope for the Farm.

FIRST DIVISION
Silksworth Golden Fleece were made to battle for their 4-2 win against a much improved Victoria Gardens thanks to goals from star man Carl Young (2), Ed Wood and Kris Tyson.
Oddfellows eased to a 7-3 win in the clash with Times Inn at Silksworth. Oddies goals came from the prolific Andy Smith who netted an impressive four goals, Steven Colquhoun scored twice and Stephen Allan wrapped up the scoring.

PREMIER DIVISION
Aquatic Sports overcame a plucky Usworth FC as they won 5-2 to reach the dizzy heights of fourth in the league table.
Aquatic dominated the first half and finally made the breakthrough on the half hour as Mark Fisk latched onto an exquisite through ball to expertly plant the ball into the net.
In the second half Aquatic conceded a corner early on and a rare error from Hoey allowed Andrew Kirkley to power a header into the roof of the net. Aquatic needed to raise their game and the introduction of two substitutes soon changed the complexion of the game in Aquatics favour. Mark Fisk restored Aquatic lead as he stabbed home a left wing cross. Usworth then collapsed like a pack of cards as Aquatic ran riot, Mark Dickinson scored a cracking half volley from a Scott Hailstone pass to make it 3-1.

It was soon 4-1 and it proved to be goal of the game as Michael Conlon scored with an amazing 15 yard bicycle kick. Following a great interception and pass from yours truly (who actually had a good game!) to Beam and another great ball from Beam Critter struck a beautiful half volley in the bottom corner from 20 yards to seal the game for Aquatic. The win was then completed as Paul Russell slammed home an unstoppable drive. Usworth pulled a goal back thanks to the legendary Andrew Makin.

Anthony Fletcher starred for Usworth as did Mark Dickinson for Aquatic.

Hylton CW have improved of late and continued their good form as they thumped The Cambridge 8-2 at the Billy Hardy Centre.

Barry Cooks’ men proved too strong as they stormed to success thanks to goals from Liam Oley who bagged a hattrick, John Cairns, Carl Price, Adam Sloanes and John Migham. The Cambridge replied with strikes from Anthony Mullen and Craig McShane.

FIRST DIVISION

FC Chesters produced the performance of the day as they defeated Seaham Harkers Bar 5-2 and end the latters unbeaten league record.

The Chesters got off to the best possible start as great pressure from Ethan Lee allowed Paul Maw to nip in and score from the tightest of angles. Harkers Bar soon equalised as home keeper Robason produced a stunning save only to see Matthew Mustard to volley in the rebound. Chesters kept their opponents on the back foot and went close with several efforts, the pressure finally paid off as Maw grabbed his second goal of the game hitting home the rebound after the keeper had saved his first effort.

The second half saw Chesters going for the jugular and scored a third goal as Stephen Murphy let fly from 25 yards and deflected off a defender and wrong foot the keeper.
Ethan Lee made then it 4-1 from Murphys corner kick, Lee rose like a salmon to head in from close range. Paul Maw eventually grabbed his hat-trick after leaving the defender for dead and finidhing with aplomb. Harkers Bar managed to pull one back courtesy of a Darren Ruddock penalty.

Ethan Lee starred for FC Chesters as did Marc Ruddock for Harkers Bar.

Silksworth Golden Fleece came out on top in an eleven goal thriller as they won 6-5 against fellow promotion challengers East Durham Spartans.

Spartans replied with goals from Philip Robinson (2), Daniel Kears, Jamie Cresswell and man of the match Terence Bentley.

Country Park Inn seem to have turned the corner as they recorded a 5-2 win against Park View.

Ryan Scott was the goalscoring hero as he claimed a hattrick and further strikes from Paul Bell and Scott Cameron gave the Park Inn the three points.

Goalkeeper Priest starred for Park Inn producing several smart saves.

Hollycarrside, now under new management have picked up form as they produced a gritty performance to win 5-3 away to Victoria Gardens.

Paul Stokoe has been a revelation as he scored a perfect hattrick. Further strikes from Callum Hellens and Jake Bell secured the win. Andrew Morris starred for The Holly. An excellent hattrick from Adam Wasey for the Vicky Gardens wasn’t enough to win the game, whose man of the match was Kevin Golightly.

Times Inn have definitely improved this season and recorded yet another win as they triumphed 4-2 away to FC Whitburn.

Whitburn replied with strikes from man of the man Liam Bayles and Kyle Gray.

Oddfellows were involved in an eleven goal thriller although the game wasn’t that close as they ran out easy 9-2 winners against a very lacklustre Saltgrass FC.

The prolific John Hope hit both Saltgrass goals, but his efforts were overshadowed by opposition centre forward Andrew Smith who scored a phenomenal six goals. Further goals from Darren Liddle, Steve Colquhoun and Michael Livingston gave the Oddfellows a comprehensive win.

Special mention must go Mr Klipper of The Saltgrass who despite his old age produced a great performance from midfield demonstration fine technique and tremendous heading ability.







WEARMOUTH & HYLTON AGED PEOPLES TROPHY

Chesters Athletic produced a battling performance as they sent high flying Hendon FC packing with a 3-2 victory.

Athletic won the game thanks to efforts from Rob Thompson, Marc Stephensdon and Marc Evans. The visitors replied through goals from Kyle Sumner and James Dickinson.

Craig Bewick shone for Athletic as did Keith Lonsdale for Hendon.

Shiney Row Travellers Rest also progressed as they made light work of an inept Dray and Horses to record a 6-2 win.

Paul Bridge proved to be the matchwinner and difference between the sides as he hit four goals and was backed up with strikes from Michael Dixon and Ian Wilkinson.

DURHAM MINOR CUP

West End produced a magnificent performance to progress to the quarter finals as they battled to a 5-2 win away to Bowes FC.

Backed by a huge travelling support West End took the lead as John ‘Billy Liar’ Coomber lashed home a penalty after David Keithley had been fouled. The away fans were in wonderland as an own goal saw West End go 2-0 up, Bowes decided to roll their sleeves up and it worked as they bombarded West End with attack after attack and before you could blink the score was 2-2 after some lethargic defending from the visitors.

West End were given the Alex Ferguson hairdryer treatment at half time, after dodging the flask and plastic cups the players came out with the bit between their false teeth. Veteran player Anthony Nelson and striker Andrew Lloyd Webber came on to give the side much needed impetus, the changes worked as Webber with his electrifying pace was causing problems left, right and centre. Jonny Glenwright restored the visitors lead with a long range strike, Webber then scored to restore the two goal cushion.

From then it was all Bowes as they tried in vain to get back into the match, but West End had the final say as John Coomber scored another penalty to make the final score 5-2 and secure his side a place in the quarter finals where their opponents will be Hartlepool.

West End would like to thank their magnificent support who attended the game especially Eddie Dodds who sang, danced, cartwheeled and drummed his way throughout the match, rumours say that his antics were down those cakes from Greggs.

DURHAM MINOR CUP
Hall Farm Blakeneys produced their best performance of the season as they defeated Gateshead Rutherford Reserves with a pulsating 3-1 win to march onto the quarter finals.
It was Rutherford who started the stronger and missed a penalty after the Farm had an Andrew Adey goal ruled out. Bogans men grew in confidence which was evident in their play and just before half time they took the lead as Ross Taylor swept the ball home.

The second half was a tense affair and it was the Geordie visitors who struck a blow as they equalised with a well taken goal. Not to be undone, the Farm regrouped and laid siege to the visitors goal and there persistence paid off on seventy minutes as Ross Taylor grabbed his second goal to put his side in front after good play from Smith and Spence. The Farm could sense victory and it was Dean Smith who wrapped the game up after he tucked away the loose ball as the keeper spilled it.

Cameron Marshall was the Farm star man as they secured their third consecutive win.

Hylton Colliery Juniors also made it through to the quarter finals as they handed out a 6-1 beating to visitors Shildon Elm Road WMC.

The victory came courtesy of David Ward and Kevin Gordon who both hit stylish hattricks.

Redhouse made light work of their opponents, Hartlepool (HPOO) as they stormed through to the quarter finals after a 9-0 win at Downhill.

The Wearsiders had Paul Cromack unavailable as he was taking the kids to see Joe McElderry in concert, apart from that however they were at full strength with Carl Old finally being allowed back into the country after all charges were dropped.   Hartlepool FC turned up in an official club bus and looked very smart indeed, Michael Stanness turned up smoking a roly and looking like Jimmy Jesus’ long lost brother, a more differing set of ideals you are unlikely to see!   It was immediatley apparent that Redhouse had the measure of the opposition, but chances were being squandered left right and centre. The breakthrough came however in the 20th minute, Carl Old showing Redhouse what they had been missing as he picked up the ball and bulldozed his way through a few defenders before producing a lovely finish from a tight angle. From then the floodgates opened as Wooton finally got on the scoresheet with a smart chipped finish before firing home from close range to make it 3-0. Carl Old then grabbed a second to make it 4-0 to the home side.   Hartlepool were out of sorts and out of control as they were reduced to ten men as their over enthusiastic defender started using his fists much to everyones surprise.
The second half saw Redhouse really turn on the style as they ripped into Hartlepool, the goals were now flowing as Stevie "Messi" Anderson scored a great goal as he showed mindboggling control to bamboozle 4 defenders in the Hartlepool box before curling the ball home. Old completed his hat trick and shortly after Mark Catcheside made it 7-0. Steve Anderson then showed great feet on the edge of the box to fire home for his second to make it 8-0.  At this point Hartlepool FC threw the towel and the team was in complete disarray. The ninth goal soon came when Steven Taylor lashed home from two yards for his first goal in four years.
Gareth Brazier was Redhouse star man.
Hendon FC made a disappointing exit as they lost 3-2 in a fiery encounter at Darlington DSRM SC.

Jason Gargett fired the Wearsiders in front but the home side adapted to the appalling condition better and stormed into a 3-1 lead. Martin Hope grabbed a consolation goal to give his a chance but it wasn’t meant to be as DSRM saw the game out.

Thorney Close Inn’s eagerly anticipated tie with Shields United was postponed due to a frosted pitch much to the dismay of the Thorney hierarchy.

TWR COMMERCIAL LEAGUE CHALLENGE CUP

East Durham Spartans progressed after finally overcoming a much improved Usworth FC 4-3.

Lee Wood was the Spartans hero as he bagged a fantastic hattrick, the prolific Philip Robinson also scored. Usworth replied with strikes from Andrew Makin, Michael Hill and Dean Simpson.

Stuart Dodds again starred for Usworth.




Hendon Grange were involved in an eight goal thriller as they were pushed all the way to claim a 5-3 victory against Times Inn.

The Grange won the game thanks to strikes from Adam Campbell (2), Stephen Langton, Josh Joyce and Alan Miller.

West End had a depleted squad for their tie with Silksworth Golden Fleece, but they still had too much quality as the progressed to the next round with a 2-0 win.

Stephen Bogie just can’t seem to stop scoring as he bagged both goals, West End star man was David Keithley.

ALAN HOOD MEMORIAL TROPHY

Colliery Tavern made light work of First Division Oddfellows as they cantered to a 5-0 win.

Margy Stokell’s charges won the game thanks to strikes from Michael Bulmer, sub Gary Stokell and Carl Chapman who hit an impressive hattrick.

Gavin Foot starred for the Tavern, as for Oddfellows well they felt they could have won if they had a full strength side out.

Shiney Row Travellers Rest also safely made it through to the next round as they eased to a 4-0 away win against Victoria Gardens.

PREMIER DIVISION

Aquatic Sports fielded a patched up side but still managed to grab a much needed three points as they won 5-3 in an end to end game against The Cambridge.

Aquatic drew first blood on fifteen minutes as Mark Dickinson drill home via the post from twelve yards after the visiting keeper flapped at a corner. It wasn’t long before Aquatic doubled their lead as Scott Johnstone scored with a 25 yard left foot curler after a mazy run. The Cambridge managed to pull a goal back just before half time, Craig McShane firing home after the home defence were exposed due to a lack of pace.

After some words of encouragement, Aqauatic came out fired up and increased their lead as Mark Fisk let fly from 25 yards and his strike flew into the net via the crossbar leaving the keeper beaten all ends up. The visitors pulled a goal back through Anthony Mullen. Aquatic were under immense pressure from the Cambridge long ball tactics and a fourth goal seemed to settle them down as Richard Cull nodded into the net.

Aquatic had chances galore to finish the game off but they were to rue those missed chances as Anthony Powell struck to set up a tense finale. Donaldson in the home goal pulled off some miraculous saves to keep his side infront. The game was finally put to bed as Paul Russell clinched the points for Aquatic with a 25 yard piledriver.

Aquatic keeper Kyle Donaldson stole the man of the match award with a tremendous display.



Hylton CW were left frustrated as they drew 1-1 away to Chesters Athletic.

The Colliers took the lead through Liam Oley and played well for the rest of the game, but their concentration deserted them as Chesters grabbed a valuable point in stoppage time through Robert Robson.

Liam Frame starred for Chesters as did Mark Cresswell for the Colliers.

FIRST DIVISION

There were three games played in the First Division of which produced a staggering 22 goals.

The Saltgrass earned a hard earned point as they drew 5-5 with FC Chesters.

John Hope continued his excellent form in front of goal as he bagged a fine hattrick and further strikes from Tony Wilkinson and an own goal secured a point for the Saltgrass as they try and break clear from the bottom.

FC Chesters goals came from star man Ethan Lee (2), Paul Maw, Stephen Murphy and Jon Wardle.

Saltgrass keeper Andrew forbes was man of the match producing a string of fine saves.

FC Whitburn grabbed a much needed win as they secured a 3-2 success against Hollycarside who are under new owners.

Substitute Liam Bayles came off the bench to score to win the game for Whitburn after strikes from Dayne Weir and Ross Toward. The Holly replied with strikes from Paul Stokoe (2).

Grant Pressling starred for Whitburn. Kyle Hourigan put on a great goalkeeping performance for Hollycarside.

There was a seven goal thriller at Thompson Park as Dray and Horses won 4-3 against Park View.

ALAN HOOD MEMORIAL TROPHY
Redhouse progressed to the next round of the Alan Hood Trophy with a fine 1-0 victory over First Division leaders Thorney Close Inn.   Redhouse still were without several players most notably Carl Old who is still stuck in Thailand with his new Thai bride bought in the January sales, also missing was Neil Middlemiss who was wrestling training. Talisman Steven Lewis made a welcome return as did goal machine Steve Farrah.   
Both teams were hampered by a heavy pitch and gale force winds and it was Redhouse who had the wind to their advantage in the first half, but they only had a 25 yard netbuster from Liam Wooton to show for their efforts. Again chances were missed and Thorney nearly went in at half time level but heroics from Carl Middlemiss in the Redhouse goal kept the visitors at bay.
The second half you would not have thought a one goal advantage would be enough with the wind increasing, however the Redhouse backline marshalled superbly by David Taylor kept Thorney chances to a premium. It was Thorney who had all the pressure and Middlemiss was called upon again to produce smart saves on several occasions. Dale Huggins missed a glorious chance to seal the game but fluffed his chance with only the keeper to beat.Carl Middlemiss produced a good save from close range, they did well to tip a freekick on to the bar, before Redhouse raced away and should have sealed the game, Dale Huggins firing straight at the keeper when one on one.
Redhouse were then denied a stonewall penalty when Wooton was scythed down in the area but the referee saw otherwise. Thorney huffed and puffed but they couldn’t blow Redhouse down.
James Page starred for Thorney Close Inn, but Redhouse skipper Dale Huggins stole the show with a barnstorming performance. 
Hollycarrside also progressed with a 2-0 win over Country Park Inn thanks to strikes from Levi ‘501’ Scott and star man Paul Stokoe.

WEARMOUTH & HYLTON
AGED PEOPLES TROPHY

Oddfellows stormed into the round after blitzing Victoria Gardens 7-1 at Silksworth Park.
Man of the match Andrew Smith stole the show as he bagged an excellent hattrick, further goals from Stephen Colquhoun (2), Keith Airson and David Redman sealed the Millfield based sides passage into the next round.
West End also made light work of their opponents as they cantered to a 6-0 win at home to The Cambridge. Two goals from John Coomber set the Premier Division leaders on their way but it was the goalscoring ability of Stephen Bogie that turned the game as he struck four times to keep up his recent fine form.
David Sanderson starred for West End, as did Anthony Mullen for The Cambridge.
Shiney Row Travellers Rest avoided a potential upset as they eased to a 4-1 win away to FC Whitburn. Kyle Gray grabbed a late consolation for the latter side whose star man was James Fawcett.
FC Chester came out on top in an eight goal thriller as they progressed into the next round with a 5-3 win against Silksworth Golden Fleece.
The Fleece opted to use the terrible wind conditions to their advantage, but this was to backfire on them as Chesters stormed into a 2-0 lead as Ethan Lee struck after good work from Dixon and Murphy, moments later Paul Maw doubled the lead tapping in after Dixons’ lob had hit the upright. The Fleece woke up and pummelled the home defence who had stood firm but their resistance was finally broken as David Nield finished well from a well taken free kick.
The second half saw the Chesters immediately extend their lead as Tom Robason thumped in a header. Just as the home side began to look comfortable, disaster struck as they gave away a soft penalty of which Luke Cable slammed home. The game was end to end and Chesters were 4-2 up as Ethan Lee rode two challenges before finishing well. The was well and truly over moments later as Ethan Lee grabbed his hattrick in sensational style producing a scissor kick. The Fleece pulled one back through Shaun Wilkie to make the final score 5-3.
Dean Smart starred for the Golden Fleece.
Hall Farm Blakeneys produced an attacking performance of the highest calibre as they won 11-1 away to the luckless Usworth FC.
Ross Taylor and skipper Cameron Marshall ran amok as they both scored hattricks. Karl Pascoes replied for Usworth but the Farm were relentless in attack as they added further goals from John Spence, sub Andrew Steele, David Pescod, Andrew Adey and stalwart Phil Dorian.
Stuart Dodds starred for Usworth, whilst Steven Richardson was imperious for the Farm.

DURHAM MINOR CUP
Hendon FC produced a spirited performance as they overcame a strong Hartlepool Seaton 4-1 away from home.
Steven Clark set the Wearsiders on their way with a fine effort, Gareth Hill extended the lead only for Seaton to pull one back through their Chinese star Mon Kee Han Gar.
The second half saw Hendon up the tempo and their superiority paid off as Martin Jackson restored the two goal lead with a massive header. Hendon finally killed the game off with what can only be described as a contender for goal of the season, Martin ‘Gandhi’ Hope volleying in from 45 yards cue wild celebrations from the player himself.
Kyle Sumner starred for Hendon FC.
The result pleased Performance Director Michael Lynch who said “overall it was an excellent team performance and we can now look forward to the next round where Roddymoor lie in wait. Hats off to Seaton who put on a magnificent buffet, it was sublime and i’ve managed to sneak food in me shower bag. It’ll save me buying a kebab for our lass whilst we watch Take Me Out, remember no likey no lighty...let sausage see the roll.”
Hylton Colliery Juniors also progressed in emphatic style as they handed out an 8-1 drubbing against a shell shocked Stanhope Town.
Hylton CW failed to make it through as they were beaten 3-1 by much fancied Hartlepool (HPOO). Carl Price struck in vain for the Colliers whose star man was Chris Usher.

FIRST DIVISION
East Durham Spartans returned to winning ways in style as they stormed to a 7-2 win away to The Saltgrass.
Man of the match Phil Robinson took the match ball home as he bagged a fine hattrick, further goals from Lee Wood (2), Jamie Cresswell and Jared Jones sealed the win. The Saltgrass replied with strikes from leading scoring John Hope and man of the match James Butler.
The Times Inn produced a stirring display as they fought to a hard earned 2-1 win away win against Park View thanks to goals from star man Neil McNulty and Daniel Defty.

Hall Farm Blakeneys produced a polished performance as they comfortably progressed to the second round of the Durham Minor Cup with a 3-1 win against Middlestone Moor Mason Arms.
The game was switched to Herrington Park due to the unfit state of the Arms pitch and it was the Farm who started the brighter side bossing the midfield and creating numerous chances that were wasted due to poor finishing and good defending. It was no surprise when Farm took the lead just before half time as excellent work from skipper Cameron Marshall saw his slide rule pass reach Ross Taylor who finished in style. The Arms were reduced to ten men for disputing the goal.
The second half saw Bogans men come out of the traps like a greyhound chasing the rabbit, the Farm’s extra man told as on 55 minutes they went 2-0 up as great work from Jackson allowed Cameron Marshall to scamper through and finish with ease. On the hour mark it was game over as Andrew Adey made it 3-0 and the Farm saw the game out.
The Arms kept battling and on 80 minutes they pulled a goal back after some woeful defending, this spurred them on and they wasted several clear cut chances but to no avail.
Thorney Close Inn also progressed as they stylishly won 4-1 against a dumbfounded Crook Town Wanderers.
Thorney Close welcomed the visitors in this eagerly anticipated County Cup tie with both sides chomping at the bit after suffering an eight week lay off due to the big freeze. Thorney were missing several players but welcomed back the legendary Paul Hodgson who is a ‘God’ in footballing terms to their supporters. The Inn started the game at a furious tempo with the visitors not knowing what was happening, on ten minutes Thorney took the lead as the dangerous Dale Spence was scythed down in the box and up stepped Paul Hodgson to slam home the penalty sending the keeper the wrong way. It was de ja vu five minutes later as the Crook defence couldn’t hand Spence who was hauled down in the box and Hodgson sroke his penalty into the next to give his side a 2-0 lead.
Thorney were all over Crook like a rash and were time and time again close to extending their lead but chances were squandered by Johnson, Hodgson and Makin.
It was game over at the start of the second half as Paul Hodgson finally grabbed his hattrick after fine work from Spence. Hodgson was running amok and almost grabbed a fourth goal but his stunning volley went agonisingly over the bar. Crook to their credit kept battling and pulled a goal back on 70 minutes as their forward headed in at the back post.
This sprang a laid back Thorney into action and the responded in style as Alan Surtees saw his 18 yard peggy ender fumbled by the keeper and Dale Spence was on hand to finish the rebound from the tightest of angles.
It was a great result for much to the delight of head coach Paul Frame “Cracking result that like, the boys turned into men today with a superb display and now we hope for a kind draw and hope to kick on. But we have to take one game at a time and get our minds back on to the league campaign.”
West End kicked the new year of in style as they reached the second round after a 5-3 win against Bishop Auckland Masons Arms.
West End returned after an 8 week lay off and were missing 5 players but still had a strong side out. It was the Wearsiders who dominated the first half as they squandered a host of chances, but they eventually found their shooting boots as they raced into a 3-0 lead. The goals coming from Stephen Bogie, Michael McCabe and Paul Webber.
The Bishops came out for the second half a changed team and immediately pulled a goal back with a stunning 30 yard free kick. It was soon 2-3 after some shocking defending allowed the forward to finish with ease. West End were startled and they began to find rythym and David Keithley restored their two advantage with a blistering 35 yard free kick which left the home keeper stranded. More woeful defending saw Bishops score again to set up a nerve jangling finale, but the visitors put the game to bed as Stubbs finished well to make the final score 5-3. 
David Keithley was star man for the Wearsiders.
Redhouse also made it through to the second round with a resounding 5-1 home win against an improved Hendon Grange.
Stephen Anderson starred for Redhouse.
It wasn’t a great start to the new year for Chesters Athletic as they were dumped out of the competition by Shildon Elm Road WMC 3-1.
Adam Maggiore grabbed a consolation goal for Athletic.
Aquatic Sports interest in the competition ended for another year as they were also knocked out, suffering a 3-1 loss at home to Darlington DRSM.
The game kicked off and DSRM started the better side with their midfield running riot and their pace was causing a problem for the Aquatic back four, Burgin in particular. The visitors wasted several chances and were stunned when against the run of play they gave away a penalty. Aquatic wasted their golden opportunity as the keeper comfortably saved the spot kick and in the resulting goalmouth scramble the ball was hacked clear.
The imprssive DRSM were shocked early in the second half as Aquatic took the lead courtesy of a strike from Michael Conlon. Aquatic then had to hold on as the visitors stepped up the pace and were given a lifeline as they equalised with a very dubious penalty. It was soon 2-1 to the visitors after some relentless pressure. Aquatic were looking tired after weeks of inactivity and too much turkey and it was no surprise when a visiting forward scampered through to make it 3-1 and put the game out reach.
Aquatic kept on going as best they could and were awarded a penalty which smashed home by Lee Brennan.
Michael Conlon was star man for Aquatic Sports.

PREMIER DIVISION
Colliery Tavern hope for a top 5 finish in their first season in the Premier Division and they may do so after they went on the rampage with a 7-3 walloping handed out to a bewildered Cambridge Hotel.
Carl Chapman got a pair of Gola football boots for Christmas and they seem to be doing the trick as he helped himself to four goals. Further strikes from Ben Ward, Michael Bulmer and Darren Straughan sealed the win.
The Cambridge replied with a hattrick from Anthony Mullen, their star man was goalkeeper Andy Tyerman who pulled off some cracking saves to stop the score going into double figures.

FIRST DIVISION
The Saltgrass kicked off the new year in style as they upset the form book as they thumped Golden Fleece 7-2 at Quarry View.
Star of the show was Louis Thornton who smashed in four goals, he was ably assisted by John Hope (2) and Liam Noble. The Fleece responded with goals from Shaun Wilkie and Ed Wood.
The win will hopefully kick start The Saltgrass’ season.
FC Whitburn and FC Chesters shared the spoils as they played out an exciting 5-5 draw.
The Whitburn goals came from Grant Pressling (2), star man Kyle Gray, Liam Bayles and Ross Toward.
Chesters replied with strikes from Ethan Lee, Jon Wardle, James Mackintosh, Terry Clinton and man of the match Stephen Murphy.
Park View grabbed three valuable points with a 2-0 win against high flying East Durham Spartans.
Ian Morris and Dominic Murphy both struck to win the game for The View whose man of the match was Stephen Knox.
Dray and Horses steady progress continues as they won 3-2 against Oddfellows at Thompson Park.
Goals from Stephen Davison, Ian Canavan and Chris Baker won the game for The Dray. A brace from Stephen Colquhoun was all in vain for Oddfellows.
Goalkeeper Chris Smith produced an excellent display for Dray and Horses to claim the man of the match award.

ALAN HOOD MEMORIAL TROPHY
 
Half of the fixture programme was wiped out due to deteriorating weather conditions and unfit pitches, of all the games that did get the go ahead a cracking cup tie was had at Thompson Park.
 
Chesters Athletic won an epic derby contest as they progressed to the next round after an enthralling 4-3 win against fierce rivals FC Chesters.
It was FC who started the brighter of the two teams and on six minutes Ethan Lee broke the deadlock after a delightful through ball from Andrew Chorley and Lee curled the ball into the net beyond the reach of the home keeper. Lee almost made it two but saw his effort sail wide after leaving a trail of defenders in his wake.
  Athletic levelled soon after as Craig Bewick rose unchallenged to head home into the top corner. The game was end to end and FC went back in front as the ever dangerous Ethan Lee grabbed his second goal of the game as he lobbed the onrushing keeper after a neat flick from Macintosh. FC were well on top now and only wayward finishing stopped them from increasing their lead and they were to pay for those misses as just before half time Ian Redman hauled Athletic back on level terms with a fantastic lob.
 
Chesters Athletic came out pumped up for the second half and showed why they are in a division higher than FC with a devastating twenty minute spell of complete football as they went in front for the first time in the game as Ian Redman crashed in a header for his second goal of the game. FC were shell shocked  and even the vocal support of Chesters landlady Linda Charlton couldn’t stir them into action, worse was to follow as Athletic increased their lead as Marc Stephenson was left unmarked to lash in an unstoppable 20 yard volley. FC then missed a glorious chance to get back into the game but substitute Brian Baxter ballooned his effort over the bar from two yards out. A grandstand finale was set up as Jon Wardle thumped in a 25 yard free kick to put FC back in the game, but their efforts went unrewarded as Athletic hung on to progress into the next round.
 
Jon Wardle was star man for FC Chesters, goal hero Ian Redman took the honours for Athletic.
 
Hendon FC also progressed as they won 3-2 at Hall Farm Blakeneys in an evenly contested game.
 
The Farm were missing two key players for the game but that did not deter them as they took the lead as Steve Richardson fired in, chances were created by the Farm but were squandered each time. Hendon showed them how to put their chances away as James Dickinson and Martin Hope both scored to put the East End side in front.
 
Hendon increased their lead just after half time as Kyle Sumner fired in after some great build up play. With the Farm looking dead and buried, they were given a lifeline on the hour as they were awarded a penalty which Cameron Marshall tucked away with aplomb. Scott Kelly was given his marching orders for deliberate handball leaving Hendon to finish the game with ten men. The Farm had their tails up and sensed that they could yet salvage a victory but once again they left themselves frustrated by some wayward finishing. Hendon despite their numerical disadvantage never looked threatened as they saw out the remainder of the game with ease.
 
Farm Manager Lee Bogan was fuming at the final whistle, ‘we were robbed there, the ref should have given a penalty for another blatant handball. I really fancied us to win today but what can you when things are stacked against you? I won’t say anymore in case I get wrong off the FA’.
 
David Rush starred for Hendon as did Andrew Adey for the Farm.
 
Silksworth Golden Fleece eased into the next round as they were ruthless as they handed out a 9-2 beating to East Durham Spartans.
The Fleece were far too strong for the Spartans in all departments, Spartans goals came from Jon Holland and Jarrod Jones.
 
TWR COMMERCIAL LEAGUE CHALLENGE CUP
 
Premier Division Hylton CW were far too strong for First Division opponents FC Whitburn as they dominated from start to finish to record a 5-0 success.
Hylton probably played their best football of the season and they were rewarded for their endeavour with goals from Jordan Cook (2), Graham Bunker, man of the match John Banks and Mark Cresswell.
 
PREMIER DIVISION
 
Hendon Grange are the form side in the division as they recorded their fourth win in five games as they beat The Cambridge 4-1. Lee Stephenson bagged a consolation goal for Cambridge, but it was the display of goalkeeper Andy Tyerman  that kept the score down.
 
Aquatic Sports recorded a much needed win as they produced a great team performance to come from behind to win 7-2 against a hapless Shiney Row Travellers Rest.
 
The game got underway with Aquatic creating several clear cut chances but failed to convert any of them. It was left to the Travellers to show their finishing skills as they raced into a 2-0 lead after 25 minutes. Firstly, Nigel Cuthbertson fired in after a great flick on and then Michael Dixon sent the visiting support wild as he slammed the ball into the back of the net aftera goalmouth scramble. Aquatic brushed themselves down and within minutes pulled a goal back with  player manager David Hoey on hand to side foot the ball home. The goal gave Aquatic a great lift and just before half time they equalised , Scott Hailstone finishing well.  In the second half Aquatic with the bit between their teeth went for the kill and within twenty minutes were 4-2 up with goals from Russell and Johnstone. TheTravellers tried to get back into the game but were thwarted in their efforts by the brilliance of Kyle Donaldson in the Aquatic goal as he produced two world class saves. This knocked the stuffing out of the visitors and Aquatic seized the opportunity to finish the game off and they did in some style as further goals from Johnstone, Jonathon Atkinson and Mark Fisk sealed an impressive win.   FIRST DIVISION
 
Park View ended Seaham Harkers Bar unbeaten league record as they produced a sterling display to record a fine 3-1 win.
 
The View welcomed the return of Tony Burnhope for his second spell at the club and he duly obliged their faith in him as he scored on his debut. Further goals from Simon Peacock and Ron Baker capped a deserved win.
Harkers replied through substitute Michael Wilson, their star man was defender Matty Mustard.
 
The Hollymere have well and truly turned the corner as they recorded another victory, their latest victims were Dray and Horses as man of the match Luke Stoker grabbed the winning goal in a 1-0 success.
 
Victoria Gardens won a thriller as they scrapped to a nailbiting 4-3 win at home to Country Park Inn. Goals from Adam Wasey, John Shemmings, Mark Wasey and Gavin Lafferty saw the Gardeners claim the three points.

PREMIER DIVISION
 

Hylton CW Juniors won the big game of the day at the Billy Hardy Centre as they ran out convincing 5-0 winners in their derby clash with rivals Hylton CW.
 
The latter had no answer to the Juniors relentless attacks as they looked like scoring every time they came forward, but inevitably the goals onslaught came courtesy of Shaun Harrison (2), David Snowball, Stuart Jenkins and Andrew Kibble.
David Hicks starred for the Juniors, Jordan Coook did likewise for the home side.
 
Usworth, despite their off field problems managed to keep their minds on the pitch as they recorded their first league win of the season as they recorded a surprise 2-0 win away to a lacklustre Cambridge.
 
Colliery Tavern came out on top in a five goal thriller as they eventually overcame a stubborn Shiney Row Travellers Rest with a 3-2 victory.
Tavern won the game thanks to strikes from star man Carl Chapman, Michael Bulmer and Ben Ward.
 
West End bounced back from their previous in good fashion as they hammered Sassco UK 15-0.
 
West End were too good on the day and won win goals from Glenwight (3), Webber (3), Stephen Bogie (2), Jamie Fryatt (2), Michael McCabe (2), Adam McGuiness (2) and a thumping header from star man Basher Thompson.
 
Sassco Uk caught West End on a bad day, just keep plugging away lads and your luck will come.
 
Hendon FC also got back to winning ways as they thumped inconsistent Aquatic Sports 6-1 at Stannington Grove. The victory was made even sweeter thanks to the much maligned return of Kevin Morton Lennon son of the legendary Boxing ring announcer Jimmy Lennon Junior.
 
 It didn’t take Hendon long to open the scoring as David Rush went on a mazy run and nonchalantly lobbed the ball into the net. Martin Jackson then made it 2-0 as he produced a tremendous ‘half nelson’ before firing into the bottom corner. Aquatic were all over the place as the back four were given a torrid time and it got worse as marauding full back Scott Kelly who was playing  out of position much to his disgust scored his sides third goal.
 
With conditions worsening , Kyle Sumner was rescued from hypothermia as his teammates lent him some gloves and Jackson gave him his hat which proved to be fruitless as Sumner has only got a small head. Back to the action and Hendon were threatening to run riot and duly got their fourth goal as Martin Hope finished well. Man of the match James Dickinson capped a fine display as he thumped in his sides fifth thanks to a great pass from Hope. With time ticking away Hendon pressed for more goals and were thwarted by the Aquatic keeper who pulled off some good saves, but up stepped Keith ‘beef dinner’ Lonsdale to bullet a header into the top corner for 6-0.
 
Aquatic then sprang into life and managed to grab a consolation goal thanks to an error from Hendons Polish keeper Darren ‘the clown’ Morse who punched the ball off a startled Jonathon Atkinson  and it ricocheted into the net.
 
Redhouse continued their good form as they thumped Hendon Grange 6-2 to sit third in the table with games in hand on the top two.
 
Redhouse went into the game severely understrength but welcomed back Shaun Hounslow from Afghanistan. The Grange were put under the cosh straight from the kick off as the pace of Liam Wooton wreaked havoc and he soon put his side in front after racing clear. Chances galore were being missing by the visitors most notably from Brazier and Catcheside, but moments later it was 2-0 as a corner was sweetly volleyed home in style by David ‘UFC’ Taylor.
With the Grange all over the place and out of ideas, Redhouse piled on the pressure and were soon 3-0 up as Stephen Anderson slammed home a penalty. The win was secured on half time as Neil Middlemiss kept his composure to fire home his sides fourth goal.
 
The second half saw the Grange come out fighting and they were rewarded for their endeavour with two quick goals as a startled Redhouse could only watch on in horror. This saw the visitors step up a gear and the Redhouse strikeforce of Middlemiss and Wooton made sure of victory as they grabbed a goal apiece to complete a good days work.
 
Gareth Brazier starred for Redhouse as did Luke Page for Hendon Grange. 
 

FIRST DIVISION
 

Hollycarrside recorded an impressive victory as they won 2-1 at home to Silksworth Golden Fleece.
 
Callum Hellens put the home side in front only for Ryan Wood to equalise with a smart finish. The game looked to be heading for a draw but up stepped supersub Liam Laidler to fire home the winner for Hollycarrside whose star man was Brian Bell. The Fleece star man was Dean Smart.
 
Victoria Gardens have it form and it continued with a resounding 4-1 home success against an out of sorts Saltgrass.
Adam Wasey led the way for the Gardeners with a well taken brace and further goals from Ben Stokoe and John Shemmings secured the three points for the home side. John Hope replied for the Saltgrass.
 
Adam Duffy was man of the match for the Gardeners, Ian Sinclair starred for the Saltgrass.
 
Seaham Harkers Bar remain unbeaten as the handed out a 5-1 drubbing to FC Whitburn.
 
Star man Dayne Weir replied for Whitburn but his efforts were all in vain as his side just could not contain a strong Seaham side who won the game with strikes from Adam Wallace (2), Stephen Halliday, Darren Ruddock and man of the match Shane Docherty.
 
Country Park Inn recorded a fine 4-1 win at a sorry FC Chesters.
 
Park Inn started the brighter side and looked sharper in all departments and they took the lead as an unmarked Keith Robinson thumped in a header. Chesters equalised straight away as David Robason volleyed home after a neat flick on from Paul Maw. Just before half time Park Inn caught the home side napping and Andrew White capitalised on this to fire his side back into the lead.
 
Park Inn were buoyed on by the previous goal and went in search of a killer third goal and it came after some slick passing which resulted in Clayton Avery cooloy smashing the ball home to effectively kill the game. The fourth goal came just before full time as Paul Bell latched on to a loose ball after a defensive error to fire home.
 
Terry Clinton starred for FC Chesters.
 
Oddfellows claimed a welcome win as they proved to be too strong for home side Park View.
 
Oddfellows went into the game without both their keepers so Shaun King drew the short straw and went in goal and it was the visitors who took the lead as new signing Jamie Cahill ended his mazy run with a neat finish. Marc Whitfield then made it 2-0 with a shot that squirmed in under the body of the home keeper.
 
In the second half it was more of the same from Oddfellows with Colquhoun and Rowntree testing their keeper who was having a great game but the keeper was to be beaten again as Keith Airson fired in from a great Cahill cross. Substitute Ian Livingston fired in Oddies fourth goal after another cross from the impressive Cahill. Park View replied with a strike from Simon Peacock.
 
Jamie Cahill was star man for Oddfellows on his debut which left his manager purring, Chris Agar put on a fine goalkeeping display as he took the man of the match honours for Park View.
East Durham Spartans remain hot on the heels of the leaders as they fought to a 3-2 victory against a plucky Dray and Horses.
 
Jordan Moore struck twice for the Dray but it was not to be as the Spartans hit back to win the game with strikes from Mark Taylor, Lee Wood and Jonathon Holland.
 
Skipper Ian King was star man for the Dray who can count themselves unlucky not to have got something from the game – this was down to the heroics from Spartans goalkeeper Wood who produced a display that Neville Southall would have been proud of.
 
Thorney Close Inn remain top as they travelled to the Times Inn and came away with the three points after an 8-1 win.
Brett Gillat led the way with a brace and backed up with further goals from Dan Makin, Dale Spence, James Page, Paul Brooke, substitute Gaige Lisle and Robert Brooke.

PREMIER DIVISION
 

Hendon Grange caused the upset of the day as they won 2-1 at West End, this defeat puts a little dent in the West End title charge with teams having games in hand.
 
West End came into this game without their regular goalkeeper so the duties went to talisman Basher Thompson who at times performed heroics in goal. The game itself was a scrappy affair in the first half with both midfields battling well against each other, but it was the visitors who took a shock lead as their forward was left unmarked to firmly plant a header into the net. This woke up West End and they began to create chance after chance but the Grange defence held firm and cleared their lines very well.
 
The second half saw West End pressurise the visitors defence and their persistence was rewarded as John Coomber lashed home the equaliser to set up a frantic finish. It was the home side who were laying siege to the Grange goal with chances going begging and to top it all off they even missed a penalty. Worse was to follow as the match official controversially ruled out a West End goal, this geed up Grange for one last assault on the home goal and they were cock a hoop as they scored with the last kick of the game to send their fans and management into ecstasy.
 
The defeat left West End distraught as they thought this would be a straight forward win and the management said that a massive improvement is needed if they are to achieve the success they crave.
 
Hylton CW Juniors have made the step up to the Premier Division look relatively easy as they handed out an impressive 4-2 beating to high flying Hendon FC.
It was the mercurial David Ward that inspired the Juniors to victory as he helped himself to two goals and he gave Hendon centre half Luke Morrow a torrid time all afternoon. Further goals from Adam Bewick and Andrew Kibble cemented an impressive win. Hendon FC replied with goals from star man Kyle Sumner and Steven Clark.
 
It was a case of three bad points dropped for Hendon FC and manager Marcus Turnbull said “We aint gonna win anything playing like that and too many players had a bad day at the office, the only positive about the game was seeing the return of Danny Hall who has been away in London acting as the stunt double for X Factor sensation Wagner. To top a bad weekend off i’ve just been knocked out of the domino handicap by Little Jimmy”.
 
 
Redhouse kept up their title charge with a resounding 6-0 win at Usworth.
 
Redhouse controlled the game from start to finish and took the lead thanks to an Usworth defender firing the ball into his own net from 20 yards after great pressure from Huggins. Redhouse though missed a number of chances with several one on ones being wasted, relentless pressure finally paid off as Redhouse wrapped up the game with goals from Dale Huggins, Middlemiss (2), Paul Cromack and veteran Steven Lewis. 
 
 Mark Catcheside starred for Redhouse, as for Usworth their star man was the Raoul Moat lookalike playing in centre midfield who was the butt of jokes from the travelling supporters.
 
Hylton CW moved well clear of the bottom two teams as they racked up an impressive 2-1 away win at Colliery Tavern. Kieron Holmes ran the show for the Colliers but it was goals from Mark Cresswell and Liam Oley that won the game.
 
The Cambridge heaped more misery on winless Sassco UK as the prolific Paul Stokoe helped himself to a few goals in an easy 7-1 win.
 
Hall Farm Blakeneys returned to winning ways as they won 3-1 against Aquatic Sports at Herrington CW.
 
The first half was a scrappy affair with the Aquatic keeper being called upon several times to thwart Spence, Richardson and Marshall. Home keeper Adey was rarely troubled in an uneventful first half.
 
The second half livened up and on the hour it was the Farm who took the lead as Steven Richardson who was left unmarked to glance home a header. True to form though Farm slackened off and sloppy defending allowed Scott Hailstone drilled in an unstoppable shot to haul Aquatic level. With time running out the Farm were going all out for the win and it came on 86 minutes as Cameron Marshall fired home after a neat knockdown from Steele to spark wild celebrations in the Blakeneys stand. Moments later Ross Taylor wrapped up the win for the farm with a well taken lob.
 
Steve Richardson starred for the Farm as did player manager David Hoey (again) for Aquatic.
 

FIRST DIVISION
 

Silksworth Golden Fleece upset the odds as they handed out a first defeat of the season to Thorney Close Inn handing out a 4-2 beating.
 
The game had to be changed from Pork Chop Hill to Estadio Tay Road, the new surroundings took the Inn by surprise as the Fleece took the lead after 5 minutes as Karl Adams deflected a free kick into his own net.  The pitch was in a terrible state with neither team producing much football, but this did not stop the leaders equalising as Dale Spence got in behind the Fleece defence to float in a cross which was thumped into the net via the head of Micky Woodward. Thorney hoped this would kick start them into life but the game was a terrible spectacle with both teams struggling to take hold of the game, and it was odds on the next goal would come from a set piece and it was the Fleece who regained the lead as a free kick was floated into the box and the home defence failed to clear which resulted in Darryl Pearson firing into the top corner. Thorney Close only sprung into life when they conceded and this time they fought back to grab the equaliser, Karl Adams heading home a pin point Rob Brooke free kick. The latter almost sent in the home side ahead at the braek but he saw his 25 yard effort somehow clawed out from the Fleece keeper.
 
The second half saw Thorney out of the traps faster than a greyhound but their efforts were rebuffed as the Fleece again took the lead as Conor Slee let fly from 30 yards and it flew into the top corner leaving Heath in the home goal no chance. The league leaders had several chances to equalise but were guilty of some wasteful finishing and this allow the Fleece to soak up the pressure and they finally put the game to bed as Danny Fagan was left unmarked to head home his sides fourth goal and bag a deserved three points for the Fleece.
 
Karl Adams starred for Thorney Close as did Darryl Pearson for Golden Fleece.
 
John Hope netted twice to inspire the Saltgrass to a 3-1 win against fellow strugglers FC Whitburn who pulled a goal back, but a strike from Alex Clark sealed the win for Mr Klippers men.
 
Ian Sinclair starred for the Saltgrass.
 
Country Park Inn returned to winning ways as they edged to a 2-1 success against Times Inn.
 
East Durham Spartans remain in second spot as they chalked up a 3-1 win away to Oddfellows.
 

ALAN HOOD MEMORIAL TROPHY
 

Victoria Gardens progressed into the next round as they ran out 5-1 winners against a lacklustre Park View.
 
Man of the match Ben Stokoe led the way with a well taken brace and was backed up with further strikes from Mark Wasey, Lewis Wright and Adam Wasey.
Hollycarrside show signs of improvement as they knocked out Seaham Harkers Bar 2-1 in a tight encounter, Mark Ruddock replied for the Seaham boys whose star man was Dan McEwen.

PREMIER DIVISION
 

West End bounced back from last weeks defeat as they defeated third top Redhouse 1-0 in a very tight game.
 
West End dominated the first half as their midfield and forwards with Bogie in particular causing problems no end. It was Bogie who got the winning goal as he finished well into the bottom corner and soon after it was almost two nil but full back Lax saw his effort cannon off the angle of the crossbar and post.
 
The second half saw Redhouse dominate play for long periods and thought a point was for the taking as West had Stubbs sent off, but Redhouse despite their herculean efforts could not find a past a resilient defence and West End held on to grab a much needed three points.
Dave Keithley starred for West End as did Dale Huggins for Redhouse.
 
Sassco Uk are having a season to forget as they still remain winless as they suffered a torturing 13-2 home defeat at the hands of a ruthless Colliery Tavern.
 
The Tavern cruised to the win thanks to goals from Carl Chapman (4), David Dixon and Ben Ward helped themselves to a hattrick apiece, Shaun McGregor hit the net twice and man of the match Gavin Foot also got himself on the score sheet.
 
Aquatic Sports were made to dig deep for their victory as they battled to a 4-3 win against Hylton CW.
 
The game was competitive from the start as both teams passed the ball well and some juicy tackles were being made and it was the Colliers who took the lead as Chris Usher hit the net with a cross cum shot. Just before half time Aquatic grabbed a deserved equaliser as Mark Fisk slammed  home a penalty after Russell had been scythed down.
 
Hylton were well on top in the second half and it was no surprise when Liam Oley fired them into the lead with a low hard drive into the bottom corner. Aquatic made a couple of changes with Watson coming on for the ineffective Burgin, the change immediately had an impact as Watson saw his shot saved but lurking in the right place was Fisk who poked the ball into the net for his second of the game. Aquatic were now fired up and sub Watson made his presence felt as he put his side ahead smashing home a rebound after his shot had initially been saved.
 
Hylton never gave up and relentless on the Aquatic backline paid off as Mark Cresswell raced through to finish with aplomb and make the game all square. With time ticking away up popped Aquatic hero, Scott Hailstone who latched onto a through ball and made no mistake from ten yards to give Aquatic a well deserved win.
Fisk starred for Aquatic as did David Callaghan for Hylton who also had Kieron Petre sent off.
 
Hendon FC with two games in hand on the leaders recorded yet another impressive win as they saw off a much improved Hall Farm Blakeneys 4-1 at Stannington Grove.
The first half was a very tight affair with both sides struggling to get a foothold on the game and it Martin Hope who gave Hendon the lead on half time.
Hope then grabbed his second of the game just after the restart and he later added a third to claim another hattrick. Andrew Adey pulled a goal back for the Farm but it was too little too late as Gareth Hill killed the game off with a fourth goal for Hendon.
 

FIRST DIVISION
 

East Durham Spartans returned to winning ways as they won an exciting encounter 6-4 against a plucky Victoria Gardens at Acre Rigg.
 
The Spartans hero was last seasons league player of the year Lee Wood as he notched four times and further goals from David Gill and Scott Jackson secured a morale boosting win.
 
FC Whitburn grabbed a confidence boosting win as they fought hard for a 3-1 win against Park View. Star man Grant Pressling capped an impressive display with a fine goal and strikes from Anthony Chilton and Liam Bayles saw the young side home.
 
Dray and Horses and Country Park Inn grabbed a point apiece as they fought out an entertaining 3-3 draw at Thompsons Park.
 
The Dray were reduced to ten men as Chris Robins saw red, but they are nade of sterner stuff these days and dug deep as star man Jordan Moore scored twice and Andrew Wilson bundled home to give the Dray a well earned point.
 
The Times Inn caused an upset as they defeat much fancied Silksworth Golden Fleece 2-1. Conor Slee replied for the Fleece whose star man was Kris Tyson.
 
Seaham Harkers Bar remain unbeaten and maybe the team to watch as they hammered FC Chesters 7-1.
 
Jon Wardle struck for Chesters but they had no answer to the attacking play of a slick Seaham side, goals from Thomas Hopkirk (2), substitute Adam Wallace (2), Mark Ruddock and Darren Ruddock (2) saw Harkers Bar to a comfortable win.
 
Ethan Lee starred for Chesters.

 
 
 
DURHAM MINOR CUP
 

Hylton CW Juniors safely made it through to the first round proper as they demolished Oddfellows 5-0 at the Billy Hardy Centre.
 
The Millfield side simply had no answer to their slick and powerful opponents as goal machine David Ward scored all five goals despite the efforts of Oddies keeper Joe Thompson who kept the scoreline respectable with some outstanding goalkeeping.
 
Thorney Close Inn also went through as they laboured to a 4-1 win away to The Saltgrass.
 
It was an even start with the wind causing trouble for both back defences and both team missed a couple of half decent chances before Paul Brooke put Thorney into the lead with a breathtaking 30 yard volley after a great run and cross from  full back Brett Gillatt. The Saltgrass almost equalised as Kris Johnsonhit his own post with a diving header and at the other end Brett Gillatt saw his 25 yard volley tipped onto the crossbar in style by the Saltgrass keeper.
 
The Saltgrass came out the better side in the second half  and their efforts were to be rewarded as John Hope hit a deserved equaliser from 20 yards after a defence splitting pass from man of the match James Butler – the goal left visiting keeper Jackson well and truly stranded. That instantly shocked Thorney into life and they went ahead within minutes as John Bewick swung  in a free-kick which was met at the far post by Dan Makin whose header nestled into the bottom corner.
 
Moments later the game was over as a contest as John Bewick fired in from 18 yards after a mazy run from substitute Dale Spence. Thorney were now paying exhibition stuff and with ten minutes left it was 4-1 as Gillatt went on a marauding run beating 4 players before putting in Dale Spence whose shot hit the post but up popped Mick Woodward to rifle the loose ball into the net.
 
This was far from a convincing win for Thorney Close and manager Paul Frame had a few choice words to say “This undoubtedly was our worst performance of the season and certain standards have dropped. If the boys want to win things then they must be prepared to work hard for the team, a wins a win but I like to win in style”.
 
Three teams made limp exits at the final preliminary stage as Hollycarrside put up a good fight before losing 4-1 at Bowes FC.
 
Shiney Row Travellers Rest lost 0-3 at home to Crook Town Wanderers.
 
The Cambridge despite home advantage were put to the sword as they were handed a humiliating 8-1 beating off The Sandhills.

Hendon FC won the clash of the titans as they cantered to a resounding 7-2 victory away to table topping and unbeaten West End. Hendon were pumped up for the clash thanks to their very own East End prophet Jason ‘Jairzinho’ Gargett who took time out to read a passage from his new David Icke book titled – ‘And the truth shall set you free’. This set the tone for his side for the afternoon.
 
The game kicked off and it was a very tense affair as both sides looked to establish their authority on the game, but it was Hendon who drew first blood as Martin ‘Gandhi’ Hope fired them into the lead after some great play on the right. West then had a chance to equalise but Keithley saw his penalty well saved by the ‘Monk’ in the visitors goal. The home side were not to be denied as they drew level as Stephen Bogie sporting a Billy Ray Cyrus hairdo ran through to finish well despite protests from the visitors for offside.
Hendon could be forgiven for taking their feet off the pedal but that goal perked them back into life and Hope restored his sides lead scoring direct from a free kick, minutes late Steven Clark thumped in a header to give his side a two goal cushion much to the disbelief of the home side.
 
The second half saw Hendon produce a display of football that was on par with the great Dutch team of the 1970’s. Scott Kelly fired in to make it 4-1 before Bogie gave his side a lifeline by firing in a penalty, now it was game on. Hendon just got stronger and better as the game went on and Martin Hope then fired in two quick goals to take his match tally to four, Scott Kelly then completed the rout with a cool finish.
It could’ve been 8-2 but Steven ‘Mr Reliable’ Clark missed a sitter after rounding the keeper and he then watched on in horror as the ball rolled past the post.
Hylton CW bagged another three points as they battled to a 4-2 win at The Cambridge. Gareth Greener was star man for the Colliers but it was Carl Price and Liam Oley who were the goalscoring heroes as they grabbed two goals apiece. Craig McShane and man of the match Paul Stokoe replied for Cambridge.
 
Shiney Row Travellers Rest eased to a 5-2 win away to winless Sassco Uk.
 
Hendon Grange are proving to be the most improved team this season as they recorded yet another win, this time a 3-1 success at Usworth FC. Luke Page stole the show for the Grange as he bagged an impressive hattrick whilst Kyle Fletcher replied for the hosts.The Grange’s win was marred by the sending off of James Dunn and Wayne Hennessy also saw red for Usworth.
 
Aquatic Sports ended their losing streak as they battled to a 4-3 win against in form Hylton CW Juniors.
 
Aquatic started nervously as  confidence within the team was at all time low following the recent run of poor results,  after 25 minutes they found themselves 2-0 down.  The first goal was due to some slack play in the midfield and Hylton were able to break quickly and finish a flowing move emphatically thanks to David Ward. The second goal was a penalty after Burgin was adjudged to have handballed and the spot kick was blasted home by David Ward.
Aquatic’s back line was the backfoot for most of the time and only last ditch defending from Hoey stopped Hylton extending their lead. As half time approached, Aquatic were awarded a corner which ensued into a goalmouth scramble and up popped Paul Russell to curl his shot into the bootom corner to drag his side back into the game.
 
The second half started just the first half did as Hylton immediately restored their two goal advantadge through Kirk Hardy after some good play on the right. Hylton then proceeded to play some mesmerising football and were guilty of missing some guilt edged chances to increase their lead. On 70 minutes Aquatic hauled themselves back into the match as David Hoey rose highest to plant a header into the roof of the net. Moments later Aquatic were level  as Paul Russell grabbed his second goal of the game with a magnificent curling effort following a quick breakaway.
Hylton piled on the pressure but Aquatic broke away quickly and Russell looked to have scored his hattrick but the Hylton keeper produced a smart save only for Mark Fisk to slam home the rebound to give Aquatic victory and a much welcome three points.
 
David Hoey defied his age to produce a man of the match performance.
 
Hall Farm Blakeneys continued their surge up the table as they strolled to a 5-2 win against and out of sorts Chesters Athletic.
 
Dean Smith fired the Farm ahead after ten minutes with a neat finish, but as in recent weeks they let their concentration slip and this allowed Chesters to score twice to take the lead thanks to strikes from Marc Stephenson and Greg Dixon. Bogans men bucked their ideas up and found themselves level on half time as Dean Smith scored his second after good work by Spence and Marshall.
 
The second half saw Smith grab his hattrick after a clever throw from Paul Howe, moments later Cameron Marshall made it 4-2 after a great cross from Smith. Substitute Phil Dorian completed the win for the Farm as he finished well from a Ritchie Timm cross.
 
Kyle Lax starred for the Farm, Liam Frame shone for Athletic.
 
The Colliery Tavern and Redhouse shared the spoils as they produced an enthralling 5-5 draw at Fulwell Mill.
 
Anthony Stokell fired the Tavern in front on twenty five minutes and moments later Redhouse missed a penalty which was brilliantly saved by Steven Roberts. Redhouse were all over the place as Michael Bulmer scored his sides second with a brilliant solo effort, just before half time Redhouse pulled a goal back.
 
The second half saw the Tavern exert their superiority on the game as Stokell scored his second goal and then David Dixon notched as he tucked away the rebound after Chapmans shot had been saved. It looked game over for Redhouse but they caught the Tavern defence napping and pulled a goal back, Shaun McGregor then restored his sides three goal advantage. Redhouse set up a grandstand finale as they score two stunning strikes in a matter of minutes, the visitors went in search of the equaliser and they finally got it in the last minute to leave the the Tavern support looking on in disbelief. 

 
FIRST DIVISION

 
The Dray & Horses continue to climb the league and they continue to improve as they impressed in a 5-2 win at a beleaguered Oddfellows.
 
Both sides started playing some good football but it was Oddfellows who took the lead as Chris Robins thumped a header into his own net. Robins atoned for his error minutes later as he produced a sublime pass for Tommy Tansey to run onto and tuck into the net. The Dray were playing fluently as their opponents were in awe of them and Tansey got his second of the game to put the Dray in front despite claims for handball. The protests led to Oddfellows Keith Airson being sent off. Unperturbed, Oddfellows began to throw everything at the Dray but to no avail as defence came out on top. After weathering the storm the Dray started to get back to basics and this is where they got their reward as Cana volleyed expertly into the top corner.
 
The second half started with Oddies on top but some tactical nouse from the sidelines saw the Dray make it 4-1 as skipper Ian King ran at the visitors defence before unleashing a 25 yard shot that flew into the top left hand corner. Oddies then missed a penalty of which Chris Smith saved with ease, Tansey then went onto claim his hattrick as he fired in with ease after a delicate pass from Steve Davison.
Shaun King finally pulled another goal back for Oddies after showing great strength before firing into the net.
 
Park View grabbed a much needed three points as they won 3-0 against Victoria Gardens. Goals from Dave Lilwall, Ronny Baker and Jamie Hounslow saw the View home and Luke Middlemiss was their star man.
 
Seaham Harkers Bar remain unbeaten in the league as they won a ten goal thriller 6-4 against Country Park Inn. Harkers eventually won the game with strikes from star man Mark Ruddick (2), Thomas Hopkirk (2), Michael Charlton and Scott Sheriff.
 
FC Whitburn’s youthful side are beginning to find life tough as they suffered an 8-2 defeat against Silksworth Golden Fleece who were too strong throughout. Man of the match Dean Black and Grant Pressling replied for Whitburn, but the Fleece were in a rampant mood and goals from Carl Young (3), Kris Tyson (2), Ed Wood, Conor Slee and Shaun Wilkie claim an emphatic win.
 
Times Inn and Hollycarrside fought out a 2-2 draw at Thompson Park.
 
FC Chesters claimed a much needed win as they eased to a 7-1 win at a struggling Saltgrass.
 
Chesters took the lead as Paul Maw lobbed the advancing keeper after a delightful pass from Terry Clinton, the latter then claimed his sides second goal as his cross found the back of the net. Brian Baxter then missed a sitter for the Chesters, Ethan Lee spared Baxters blushes as he headed in a Clinton cross to make it 3-0.
The second half saw the Chesters change formation as they saw the Saltgrass there for the taking, Substitute James Mackintosh made it 4-0 after good work from Maw and Lee. The Saltgrass managed to pull a goal back as John Hope took advantage of some sloppy defending to fire into the bottom corner. Mackintosh restored his sides four goal lead as he met a Clinton cross and volleyed in.
 
Mackintosh then got his hattrick as he volleyed in from a cracking Baxter cross, Baxter then had a good goal disallowed for offside. It was soon 7-1 as Mackintosh grabbed his fourth goal tapping home after Murphy’s 40 yard shot cannoned back of the crossbar.
 
Thorney Close Inn look unstoppable as they destroyed second placed East Durham Spartans 8-0.
 
This eagerly awaited top of the table clash started at a frantic pace and Thorney were 1-0 up within the first minute when captain Rob Brooke surged down the left and crossed for Dan Makin to take it down on the penalty spot and rifle a left footer into the bottom corner. It was 2-0 on ten minutes when a Mick Nicholson cross was met on the half volley by Danny Makin which flew into the net. It was one way traffic and it wasn’t long before Thorney's 3rd goal as Rob Brooke rose highest to head home from a Nicholson corner. Spartans tried to get back into the game as they had an effort which hit the bar, Makin did likewise for Thorney from 25 yards. Makin wasn’t to be denied as he grabbed his hattrick after showing great opportunism, Nicholson got his sides fifth goal on half time cleverly flicking in after a great cross from Spence.
 
The second half saw Thorney make changes and they paid off immediately as Dale Spence thumped in a header. Thorney were dominating like the Liverpool  side of the eighties and it was 7-0 nil as Paul Brooke slotted home after good work from Rob Brooke. There was still time for an eight goal as Spence mesmerised two defenders before swinging in a cross which was tapped into the net by Rob Brooke.
 
John Bewick almost capped a fine individual performance with a goal but he saw his acrobatic overhead kick crash off the underside of the crossbar. Dave Savage starred for the Spartans.

WEARMOUTH & HYLTON AGED PEOPLES TROPHY
FIRST ROUND

Dray and Horses produced a workmanlike performance as they won 3-1 against Country Park Inn to enter the draw for the second round.

The Dray got off to perfect start as they were awarded a dubious penalty of which was confidently dispatched by the impressive Jordan Moore. Park Inn tried to get back into the game but they found the Dray defence in an uncompromising mood as the defended stoutly. The Dray were by far the better side in the first half as they caused their opponents problems with their quick play and the pace of their midfield and forwards always kept the Park Inn on the back foot.

The second half started disastrously for the Dray as 5 minutes into the second half they conceded an equaliser, a cross from the left was not dealt with by the defence and the loose ball was clinically volleyed into the net past the despairing dive of the home keeper. The Dray were not to be flustered and they produced some wonderful counter attacking play at times and they deservedly took the lead on 64 minutes as Christopher Robins hit a cross cum shot from the touchline and it sailed over the keeper and into the far corner of the net.

Park Inn made changes and tried to get back into the net but their play lacked a cutting edge and this is was the Dray didn’t lack as they cinched the game on 85 minutes as Brown slid in to volley home at the near post from a pin point free kick.

Ian King was man of the match for the Dray with a commanding display in midfield.

Hall Farm/Blakeneys cruised through to the next round as they handed out a 5-1 beating to Times Inn.

 The Farm never really hit top gear as they totally dominated the game throughout and created a staggering 16 chances in the first half alone! Dean Smith put Farm ahead but along with Dorian in particular he squandered many chances.  A lack of concentration in the Farm defence allowed Times Inn to get back into the game as they equalised with a fluke cross cum shot that sailed into the net over keeper Adeys head.

 The second half was one way traffic as Bogans men ran the visitors ragged with  Phil Dorian grabbing 2 goals both from RichieTimm crosses. The returning Andrew Steele scored a terrific lob with his first touch after coming on as sub and fellow sub David Jackson rounded off the scoring with a well taken effort. Farm boss Lee Bogan was greatly encouraged by his sides performance and says it will stand him and his new assistant Alan Carr (not the goofy comedian) in good stead for the rst of the season.

Chesters Athletic made light work of progressing to the second round as they cruised to a 4-1 win away to an out of sorts Aquatic Sports.
 
The game was payed on a pitch which can only be described as a cow field but it didn’t stop Mark Fisk scoring to give Aquatic the lead against the run of play. Chesters who began the game in a lethargic manor came back into the game and their strength and determination proved to be a good yardstick as they won the game thanks to a perfect hattrick from man of the match Ian Redman and a sublime curling effort from Marc Stephenson.

Aquatic player-manager David Hoey put in an all action display but his efforts were in vain as his teammates weren’t on the same wavelength.

 FC Chesters overcame bitterly cold conditions at Silksworth to progress with a hard fought 2-1 win against Park View.

Both teams struggled to get into the game as they were still knackered off their extended warm ups thanks to the referee being late! The first was a non event as both teams showed a lot of endeavour but without little to show for it.

The second livened up as Park View took the lead as Dave Lilwall struck after a mix up in the Chesters defence. Both teams cancelled each other out for the next 20 minutes, this is where the Chesters made a substitution and it immediately paid off as James ‘Raul’ Mackintosh scored with his first touch, Paul Maw saw his 25 yard effort well saved by the keeper and Mackintosh was on hand to stroke the ball into the empty net.

With time running out a long throw from the left for Chesters was flicked on by Mackintosh for Ethan Lee who was through on goal and he was ruthlessly brought down and a penalty was awarded in the last minute of the game. Up stepped Jon Wardle who smashed home his spot kick to spark wild celebrations not seen since England won the World Cup in 1966. Rob Russell starred for Park View with Ethan Lee likewise for FC Chesters.

Hendon FC were made to work hard for their 3-2 victory against Hylton CW to progress into the second round.

Martin ‘Gandhi’ Hope marked his return from preaching in India by scoring the opening goal after some fine play from Kyle Sumner. Hylton, spurred on by their first win a week earlier soon equalised as the home defence went to sleep.

The second was just as exciting as Hope grabbed his second to put his side in front, but the lead was not to last long as Hylton equalised as the Hendon defence decided to go walkabouts. With extra time looming up popped Kyle ‘Sunbed Queen’ Sumner to slam home the winner and send his side into the next round much to the relief of boss Turnbull.
Oddfellows progressed as they produced a hard working performance to win 3-1 away to a plucky Hollycarrside.

Oddfellows started the better with Hollycarside defending deep and only really threatening from long ball play Wimbledon style, The visitors looked comfortable in possession and created a great chance which saw Shaun King head over from 6 yrs out, then some great play from Airson and Rowntree which led to a free kick on the edge of the box and it was chipped in by Rowntree for Darren Liddle to header home but only to be ruled out for a very dubious offside. Rowntree finally broke the deadlock after a bit ball juggling slicing the ball into the roof of the net from 3 yards out.

 The 2nd half saw Oddfellows started brighter again keeping possession but not creating many clear cut chances. Allen headed wide from a Stanness free kick and then after some excellent skill leaving Hollycarside defender on his backside Rowntree crossed to Phillips who Failed to score with his header. Hollycarrside got back on level terms in bizarre circumstances as Tom Carline put the ball into in his own net as he overhit his back pass which flew past keeper Joe Thompson.

The home sides joy was short lived however as Oddfellows quickly regained the lead thanks to a Keith Airson 25 yard thunderbolt leaving the keeper grasping thin air. Airson then grabbed his second of the game as he let fly from 30 yards and his effort sailed into the top corner after a 15 pass move.
Keith Airson starred for Oddfellows as did Luke Stoker for Hollycarrside.

Hendon Grange proved to strong for The Saltgrass as they battered their first division opponents into oblivion with an 8-0 win.

New signing James Dunn led the way with a breathtaking hattrick on his debut, star man Luke Page continued his good form as he bagged two goals. Further goals from Adam Wright, Adam Campbell and Michael Jacobs gave the Grange an easy win. Andrew Forbes starred for the Saltgrass.

Silksworth Golden Fleece took advantage of East Durham Spartans recent dip in form as they progressed with a resounding 7-1 win.
Goals from Carl Young (2), Darryl Pearson (2), Eddie Wood, Mark Slee and man of the match Dean Smart safely saw the Fleece into the next round.

Usworth FC eased into the next round as they recorded an emphatic 8-3 win at a winless Sassco UK.
Star man Andrew Makin was tormentor in chief as he grabbed four goals and was ably backed up with goals from Dean Simpson, Ewan Lowrie, Karl Pascoe and Kyle Fletcher.

Sassco must be wondering what they must do win a game, but as Journey once sang – ‘Dont stop believing’.

Victoria Gardens ended Seaham Harkers Bar unbeaten run as they went through to the second round with an excellent 3-1 win.
Bryan Lawson was man of the match for the Gardeners but it was Matthew Grassam who stole the show as he grabbed a hattrick to ensure his side progressed. Thomas Hopkirk replied for Harkers whose star man was Adam Wallace.

Colliery Tavern won a physical encounter at Rolls Royce as the eventually ran out 3-1 winners against in form Hylton CW Juniors. Carl Chapman was the hero for the Tavern as he hit a hattrick with Shaun McGregor being their star man.

Redhouse FC comfortably made it through to the next round as they beat the ten men of The Cambridge 2-0. Paul Stokoe starred for The Cambridge.
 

PREMIER DIVISION

West End extended their lead at the top of the league as they had to come from behind to win 4-2 winners against an unlucky Shiney Row Travellers Rest.
West End started off well making chances but fell behind to a good strike from the Travellers midfielder which flew into top corner. Worse was to come for West End as the Travellers grabbed a second to go into half time 2-0 up.

West End shocked and startled started the second in determined fashion and it wasn’t long before they wore down their opponents as man of the match Stephen Bogie grabbed to quickfire goals. This knoked the stuffing out of the Travellers and it showed as West End wrapped up the game with strikes from David Keithley and Paul Webster.

Hall Farm Blakeneys dominated this Alan Hood clash against a hard working Sassco side. Farm boss Lee Bogan made changes to his side after 2 disappointing shows and it paid off, 2 who came in combined for the first goal, Kevin Fawcett making a great run and finish from David Jacksons cross, Farm got a second when good build up play by Pescod Marshall put in Ross Taylor for his first goal for the club on his first start. It was 3-0 at the interval after Johnny Spence’s corner was knocked into his own net by a Sassco defender under pressure from Taylor.
The second half was much the same with Farm knocking the ball about well and looking solid, 2 subs combined for the 4th when Phil Dorians shot was well saved but Richie Timm knocked home the rebound for his first goal for the club, Club captain Lee Southern got a 5th nodding home Timm's cross, Sassco got a consolation which should never have been, Farm keeper Gary Adey collected a cross but was pushed into the net for a blatant foul, the ref took pity and gave the goal!!!
FC Chesters continued where they left off last week with a well deserved 4-0 win away at Hendon Grange. Chesters making 3 enforced changes & there replacements did not let the team down. Global playing a 3-5-2 formation stopped Chesters playing in the centre of the park in the first half with only a couple of chances falling for either team but none troubling the keepers. In the second half FC Chesters started the brighter & were unlucky not to take the lead from MOTM Stephen Murphy after some fine interplay. His thunderous left foot shot from 20yrds smashing off the post with the keeper fully stretched. The break-through came via more Chesters pressure from debutant Mark Lister running through one on one to curl his effort around the advancing keeper 1-0. With Hendon Grange playmaker Luke Page now off the pitch & a Global change of formation, Chesters started to take control of the game which they got a second within minutes of the first, from some sloppy defending & quick thinking from Paul "Mawzy" Maw to strike in from 10 yards low into the bottom corner, 2-0 past an impressive Shawn Metcalf in goal but this was to be his last part of the game after dislocating his finger trying to stop Chesters effort.  Hendon had a very good chance to get back into the game but for a fine double save from the much improved Ian Dunlop between the Chesters sticks. Hendon’s keeper change seemed to fully disrupt them in the final 20 minutes as his sloppy clearance fell to Chesters star man Stephen Murphy 40yrds out & the keeper had no chance to stop the first time volley looping over his head into an empty net to make it 3-0 & game over. Grange’s replacement keeper made another howler 10mins from time as Murphy saw his halfway line free kick go directly into the net through the keeper’s hands for a howler of a goal for 4-0 at full time. FC Chesters MOTM Stephen Murphy while Luke Page starred for Hendon Grange.
Premier Division side Hylton CW hosted newcomers Oddfellows who made three enforced changes to the team after last week’s performance. With Smithy, Colquhoun and Stanness all at work, in came Liddle who produced a man of the match performance, Asda and debut boy Samson Chisi. Oddfellows started well and played some lovely football and had the more of the possession throughout the game, the only chance that fell to Hylton was a close range header which was dealt with comfortably by the Oddfellows keeper. Some great passing and moving led to a great header from Rowntree which hit the bar followed by a 30yrd strike from asda testing the keeper. Liddle and Airson bossed the game from the middle of the park and Samson and Stevie Allan were able to get at their full backs which led to the opening goal. Some great wing play produced a chipped ball in to Rowntree whose excellent control enabled him to slip past the defender and coolly slot the ball under the keeper for 1-0. It was 2-0 a few moments later from a free kick which Carline is claiming as he took from just inside his own half which deflected of center back and looped over the keeper 2-0 HT. 2nd half Oddfellows took their foot of the gas as Hylton didn’t really threaten, and tried to press for a 3rd with some tricky play from Samson who struck a shot from 30yrds which hit Rowntree and went out for a goal kick. They then saw the game out with good possession.
Newcomers Thorney Close Inn despatched Premier League side Cambridge 5-1 at the Theatre of Dreams to progress to the next round after this one sided contest. Thorney were out of the blocks immediately and were a goal up within 5mins. John Bewick picked the ball up just inside the oppositions half and beat 4 players before Andy "Tiredman" Tyerman dived at his feet and saved only for Dan Makin to rifle home. Cambridge were level after a long hopeful ball 5mins later wasn’t dealt with by James Page and his headed back-pass landed short of Jackson and Paul Stokoe lobbed the keeper and in off the post. Within 90secs Thorney were ahead as Peverley released Woodward in the channel and he crossed to the back post where Makin was charging in and volleyed into the roof of the net. Paul Brooke almost made it 3-1 just before the break as he beat his full-back but his rasping shot cannoned back off the upright. Makin completed his hat-trick when Gillatt sent him clear and he lobbed Tyreman from the edge of the area on 50mins. It was 4-1 on the hour mark and put the nail in The Cambridge coffin as Bewick's marauding run down the right and cross was met on the volley by substitute Kyle Gibson at the near post which flew into the roof of the net. The 5th was a carbon copy with another Bewick cross was this time met by the head of Gibson and in off the post. Thorney had chances to extend the lead but poor finishing let them down. In the end a comfortable afternoon for the 1st Division leaders. Karl Adams was outstanding for Thorney while Micky Scollen starred for The Cambridge.
After three successive away wins in the league Aquatic Sports were looking to continue their winning run this time at home against Hendon FC in the Alan Hood Trophy, but unfortunately several key members were missing including their goal-keeper leaving just the bare eleven. As for Hendon, they brought with them their strongest squad so far this season and the result was inevitable winning 12 – 0. Brian Carter opened the scoring very early in the first half followed by a hat trick from Martin ‘Ghandi’ Hope, two from David Rush and one from Steven McAnaney making it seven at half time. David Hoey tried to rally his make shift team but straight from the off Hendon attacked and continued where they left off with further goals from Steven Clark one, subs James ‘Jiff’ Dickinson with a hat-trick and Martin Jackson completing the rout. Michael Lynch praised David Hoey and the rest of the Aquatic side for their ‘never say die’ attitude’ “Their heads never dropped, they never stopped trying and played their football in the right spirit. After last week I will definitely enjoy my Saturday night.”

Country Park Inn hosted Saltgrass and edged it by the odd goal in three. Despite a goal from John Hope and a man of the match performance from Ian Sinclair it wasn’t enough to see them through to the next round.
Dray & Horses from the first division came up against a very determined Colliery Tavern side from the premier. Goals from Jordan Dagg and Lee Robins were not enough as the Tavern outgunned them through man of the match Shaun McGregor (2), Adam Bulmer (1) and sub Gary Stokell (1), to see them through 4 – 2.
Another of the newcomers FC Whitburn came up against premier opposition in Shiney Row Travellers Rest and were just edged out in a 5 goal thriller. Goals from Liam Bayles and Sean Williams and a man of the match showing from Ross Toward were not enough. Travellers hitting 3 in reply.
Redhouse, who are lying third in the premier, had too much experience for Times Inn and ran out comfortable winners by 6 – 1. Goals from Stephen Lewis (2), Neil Middlemiss, Dale Huggins, John Dixon and Carl Old were enough to see them through. Neil McNulty scored a consolation goal for the Inn with Kurt Baxendell man of the match.
In the final game of the round, Usworth played host to Chesters Athletic who proved too strong on the day. Goals from Kev Gordon(2), Leon Symonds, Liam Frame and Mark Stephenson saw the Athletic through. Andrew Makin and man of the match Alan Curtis replied for Usworth.
In the only Premier Division fixture West End came into the game with a strong squad of 20 players for manager gaz gettins to choose from against Hylton Colliery Juniors. After a rousing team talk which seemed to fire the team right up, West End went 1-0 down, a ball through and the hylton striker floored the west end defender for the ref to wave play on, the ball was squared to David Ward to finish well with the first of his two goals. West End responded when a short corner was played to Lax who curled a 25 yard strike at goal which came back off the post to rebound in off Sanderson half a yard out. Hylton went 2-1 up from a corner played in for a header by Steve Thompson at back post to make it 3 - 1. 2nd half was dominated by West End who made chance after chance and it seemed the game was slipping away only for Michael ‘chink’ McCabe to fire home past the keeper. In the last ten minutes it was all West End a ball played in was half cleared only for Liam Gettins to volley over the keeper for a great finish to level the score 3 - 3. West End still made chances to win the game but time ran out.
In the First division, second place East Durham Spartans played bottom new club Hollycarrside. Hat tricks from Jamie Cresswell and Philip Robinson and one from man of the match Jonathan Hollande without reply were enough to put the Spartans four points clear of third place.
The other First division fixture featured two new clubs, Victoria Gardens and latest club Seaham Harkers Bar who were playing their first game of the season after recently joining the league. Harkers got off to a winning start with a 5 – 1 victory through goals from Michael Wilson(2), man of the match Shane Docherty(2) and Daniel McEwan(1). A victory parade was held through the streets of Castletown on Saturday night as Hylton CW at long last won there first league game of the season. They produced free flowing football as they put a sorry Sassco UK to the sword with a 7-0 win.

Carl ‘Welsh Wizard’ Price was the hero as he fired in a superb hattrick, man of the match Jordan Cook weighed in with two goals. The victory was completed with fine strikes from Liam Oley and Chris Usher.

The win saw record takings in the Mickey Mouse Club afterwards as celebrations continued well into the early hours of Sunday morning.

Hendon Grange seemed to have turned the corner as they produced a stirring display as they defeated a strong Colliery Tavern team 4-3. Gareth Snowden (2) and Shaun McGregor scored for the Tavern whose star man was Gavin Foot.

West End fresh from their break picked up where they had left off as they battered Aquatic Sports into submission with an emphatic 8-0 victory.

 The win was inspired by man of the match Stephen Bogie who headed two quickfire goals from great crosses by McCabe, Shaun Herron made it 3-0 when he scored with an absolute screamer and then great vision from Liam Gettings saw him make it 4-0 just before half time as he produced an audacious lob.

West End made changes at half time but that didn’t alter their style of play as they produced a masterclass display,  Sub Adam Potts got on the scoresheet as he fired a rocket like shot into the top corner. Bogie completed his hattrick and Liam Gettings grabbed his second of the game before going off injured and that meant West End had to finish the game with ten men.
Paul Webber then broke clear to score his sides eight goal, to heap more misery on Aquatic- they missed a penalty which was smartly saved by the visiting keeper. Aquatic star man was Jon Atkinson.

Chesters Athletic, despite missing several influential players trounced The Cambridge 6-3.

 Three players each scored a brace with Greg Dixon, star man Marc Stephenson and Ian Redman respectively. Stephenson scored the goal of the game from his own half, and Dixon scored with an excellent lob from 30 yards. Chris Bewick made a return from a 5-week suspension and was excellent in centre midfield.

Hall Farm Blakeneys threw the points away as they let a two goal lead slip as they were held to a 3-3 draw against Shiney Row Travellers Rest – a result which left manager Lee Bogan fuming.

Hall Farm could not have asked for a better start as a great move involving David Jackson and Ross Taylor saw Dean Smith smash home the opener inside 3 minutes, Farm gave a cheap equaliser away when from their corner Travellers hit them with a swift  counter attack.The Farm went onto dominate the rest of the half as they missed golden opportunities through Smith and Jackson before skipper Cameron Marshall showed them how its done with a well taken volley from a Timm cross. It got worse for the Travellers as they gave away a penalty of which Kyle Lax tucked away.

The second half was a horror show for the Farm as they stopped working hard which resulted in sloppy play and they were punished for it as the Travellers grabbed an unlikely point with goals on 50 minutes and 85 minutes.

On a sad note for Hall Farm Blakeneys, assistant manager Michael Brown stepped down from his role immediately after the game.

Hylton Colliery Juniors continue to climb steadily up the table as they recorded yet another win as they easily ran out 5-0 winners away to a lifeless Usworth.
Stuart Terry starred for Usworth but he couldn’t prevent the defeat as Hylton won the game with strikes from Marc Goodwin (2), Dave Ward (2) and an own goal. Liam Foster starred for the Juniors.

 
 
FIRST DIVISION
 
FC Chesters are hitting form and it showed as they defeated a much fancied Golden Fleece 6-2 at Leyburn Grove.

Chesters got off to a great start with all the play in the first few minutes with an early cross coming in for striker Ethan Lee but he somehow put his effort wide and Dunlop saw his flick hit the Fleece crossbar. The hard work and good play by Chesters was to be undone as the Fleece to the lead just before half time as Dan Fagan tucked away a penalty. A piece of sheer brilliance form Paul Maw saw the Chesters equalise immediately and right on half time Ethan Lee pounced  on a defensive howler and he squared the ball to Maw who scored his second wth an easy tap in.
 Early in the second half, Lee and Maw combined well again with the latter grabbing his hattrick with a Cantona style lob from 30 yards. The Chesters slackened off and they were punished as Shaun Wilkie scored to give the Fleece a glimmer of hope. Changes were made by the Chesters hierarchy and they paid off straight away as Ethan Lee scored to give his side a two goal cushion. >From then on it was one way traffic as the Fleece struggled to cope with their visitors relentless play and it wasn’t long before it was 5-2 as Steve Murphy blasted in from an acute angle. Ethan Lee capped off an impressive display as he scored his second goal of the game to complete a well deserved victory.

A special mention must go to referee Colin Archbold, who after the game wrote out his report and had a shower and went to leave the changing rooms only to be plunged into total darkness as he was locked inside the building with the groundsman on his way home to catch the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games. After ringing the police and Peter Maguire for help – he managed to find his way out through an emergency exit thanks to his new Timex Indiglo watch he had just bought from Argos and off home he went. Here is a little tip for you Colin, next time you have a shower....’SING’.

Thorney Close Inn welcomed inform Dray & Horses to the ‘Theatre of Dreams’ but it was the latter who had nightmares as they were beaten 6-0 by a rampant Thorney side.
Both teams started very committed and the new look Dray and Horses were playing some good football, however Thorneys man of the match John Bewick started to find time and space on the ball and his exquisite through ball found speed demon Dale Spence who cut in from the right and slotted the ball in the far corner. Spence soon had his second on 15 minutes, great play from Nicholson and Paul Brooke and the ball made its way through to Spence who crashed the ball into the roof of the net from 6 yards. The stuffing was well and truly knocked out of the Dray and it got worse for them as Spence completed his hattrick after good work from Bewick. Paul Brooke hit his 23rd goal of the season just before half time, a good finish inside the area after great work from Spence.

The second half failed to spark into life with Thorney passing the ball round well and creating mainly half chances. 17 year old sub Gaige Lisle provided the spark and he exploded through the Dray defence from a Bewick pass and scored a excellent debut goal. Bewick rounded of his exceptional performance with an 18 yard strike that found the bottom corner after good work from Lisle.

FC Whitburn caused an upset as they defeated East Durham Spartans 6-4. Sean Williams was the hero as he grabbed four goals in what can only be described as a complete centre forward display, two goals from Grant Pressling completed the win.

Spartans replied with goals from top scorer Philip Robinson (2), Jon Holland and Jamie Cresswell, this was a second successive defeat for the Spartans and will quickly need to get back to winning ways if they are to maintain a promotion push.

Country Park Inn eased to a 3-0 win at home to Hollycarside who are under new management.

Seaham Harkers Bar remain unbeaten as they had to settle for a 3-3 draw against a resolute and never say die Times Inn.

TWR COMMERCIAL LEAGUE CHALLENGE CUP

Hendon FC safely made it through to the next round as player manager Marcus Turnbull dusted down his Patrick Keegan boots to inspire his side to a 4-0 win against first division side Oddfellows Arms.
Hendons scorers were Brian Carter, Gareth Hill, David Rush and Jason Gargett. Martin Jackson made a successful return from his wrestling injury nightmare to produce a man of the match performance.

Mark Swindle starred for Oddfellows.

The Saltgrass also progressed as they beat a sorry Victoria Gardens 8-1. John Hope was tormentor in chief as he scored four goals, further goals came from Tony Wilkinson and Louis Thornton who both hit two goals each. Victoria Gardens replied through Mark Wasey.

DURHAM MINOR CUP

Park View exited the competition as they were hammered 8-0 by Darlington Hole in the Wall.

DURHAM MINOR CUP

The league had mixed fortunes in the Durham Minor Cup as only 6 out of the 11 teams that were in action progressed to the next round.

Hylton CW Juniors continued their fine start to the season as they won their tie comfortably as they annihilated Hartlepool The Fens Hotel 10-1. Hylton were in ruthless mode and it was goal machine David Ward who led the rout as he bagged four goals, further goals from star man Stephen Thompson (2), Jordan Monson (2), Lee Cresswell and Andrew Kibble saw Steve Harrison’s men safely through to the next round.

The Cambridge had their prayers answered as they progressed at the expense of Bethany Church FC, Scott Connor grabbed 2 goals for the Cambridge and the prolific Paul Stokoe grabbed the winner.

Shiney Row Travellers Rest made the long trek to Whickham Lang Jacks and came away with an excellent 4-2 victory. The goalscoring heroes for the Travellers were Adam Rowntree, Brett Rowntree, Brett Edwards and Paul Bridge. Michael Dixon was Travellers star man.

The Saltgrass hope to have turned the corner as they came out on top in their fixture against Wearhead United, Mr Klipper’s men won 4-2 in an end to end game thanks to goals from Tony Wilkinson (2), Chris Golden and John Hope.

Hollycarside put their recent poor league behind them as they came away with a deserved 4-2 success at Framwellgate Saluation.

Oddfellows also progressed into the next round but they were made to dig deep for their victory as they won 5-4 away to Crook Coach and Horses.

Thorney Close Inn were far too strong for Swalwell Amateurs as they easily ran out 6-1 winners in a tempestous match.

Thorney started brightly and had 2 clear cut chances straight away but were let down by some poor finishing, this was to come back and haunt the Wearsiders as Swalwell took the lead as James Page put the ball into his own net. Thorney immediately equalised after great work down the left from Makin who crossed to the back post for fullback Stevie Stewart to end his marauding run with a volley from close range. Swalwell were now under the cosh and Thorney took the lead when Brett Gillatt rammed home from close range after the keeper saved a fierce Paul Brooke volley.

Thorney came out the 2nd half all guns blazing as Swalwell just couldn’t cope with the one touch football  and it wasn’t long before it was 3-1,great work by Micky Nicholson down the left, saw him  beat his man and crossed to the back stick where Paul Brooke was on hand to squeeze home an excellent finish. Swalwell  were then reduced to 10 men as their forward saw red.That made it even easier for Thorney and their slick passing was ripping the Geordies apart and within minutes of the sending off it was 4-1. Gillatt flew down the left and crossed for Paul Brooke who dummied it for Dan Makin who let fly with a left footer from 25yrds which rocketed into the top corner. The Wearsiders were now running riot and were making the extra man count as Paul Brooke completed his hattrick with two quickfire goals, the latter being a 20 yard blockbuster which flew into the top corner. The game ended on a sour note as Swalwell had another man sent off and Thorneys Robert Brooke also got his marching orders.

The Times Inn put up a good fight but it was all in vain as they narrowly lost 2-1 away to Darlington DSRM SC.

Silksworth Golden Fleece fine league form deserted them as they were easily beaten 5-0 at home against Hartlepool Chesters Hotel.

Stockton Churches ended Usworth FCs interest as they cantered to a 6-0 success, Father Ted was Stockton star man.

Victoria Gardens were ruthlessly eliminated as Bowes FC went on the rampage to record a resounding 10-0 win.

PREMIER DIVISION

Redhouse continued the pursuit of league honours as they recorded a fine 3-0 win at neighbours Aquatic Sports.

Redhouse won the game with strikes from Carl Old, Steve Lewis and a 20 yard scissor kick from man of the match Liam Wooton. Aquatic could have lost by double figures but they were indebted to their keeper Kyle Donaldson who produced a goalkeeping masterclass pulling off some stupendous saves.

Chesters Athletic were made to work hard for their 3 points as they battled to a 5-3 win against Hendon Grange.

Man of the match Kevin Gordon scored two goals excellent goals, one a lob over the onrushing keeper and the other a curling effort into the top corner from 30 yards. Ian "Balls" Redman scored a tidy left footed finish in the second half and further goals from Anthony Yates and Greg "Dixy's Chicken" Dixon after great play from Liam Richardson completed the scoring.

Hendon Grange put up a good fight but Athletic stayed strong and resilient, Grange scorers were Gavin Ackroyd, Patrick Storey and Adam Wright.

Hendon FC remain hot on the heels of the league leaders as they laboured to a 3-1 win against Hylton CW at Stadio della Stannington. Goals from star man James Dickinson, supersub Gareth Hill and Jason Gargett saw Marcus ‘Highbrow’ Turnbull’s men claim 3 valuable points.

Sassco UK put in a sterling performance but they can count themselves unlucky as they were narrowly beaten 2-1 by Hall Farm Blakeneys.

 The Farm had a lot of the play without really doing much and were punished when slack marking allowed  Sassco to take the lead on 20 minutes. Mr Bogans men looked to be going through the otions in the first half and a few choice words were said at half time.
The Farm came out for the second half determined to carry on their good form but were finding Sassco UK hard to breakdown as they were defending as if their lives were on the line.   Chance after chance was being wasted before veteran defender Kevin Agnew started and finished a fine move to head home the equaliser on 70 minutes. The Farm changed personnel and tactics as they went looking for the win and it seemed to pay off. On 82 minutes substitute Ross Taylor fired home the winner from a Smith pass, this broke the hearts of the visitors and a win is surely round the corner in the near future.
 
FIRST DIVISION

Seaham Harkers Bar kept their 100% record intact as they defeated high flying East Durham Spartans 4-2. Liam Gill and Johnny Holland replied for the Spartans, but it was the goals from Anthony Armstrong, Shane Docherty (pen), Dan McEwen and Scott Sheriff that saw the Seaham lads grab the points.

Dray and Horses recorded a fine 4-0 win over FC Whitburn thanks to goals from star man Lee Hiles (2), Lee Robins and Tommy Tansey.

Country Park Inn and FC Chesters shared the spoils as they fought out a 1-1 draw.

Both teams went on the attack from the off with both defences cancelling each other out. Park Inn were constantly put under pressure by Chesters route one play and this paid off on the half hour as Tom Robason scored with a diving header from a cross by Jon ‘two tonne’ Wardle to give the visitors the lead.
Stephen Murphy then missed a sitter to put the Chesters further ahead amazingly screwing his shot wide from 6 inches out!! Park Inn had a few chances of their own but Chesters keeper was up to the test yet again and pulled off some vital saves to keep his side in front going into the half time interval.

The second half was nip and tuck until Park Inn equalised against the run of play as Andrew White hauled them level from a fortunate cross field ball that saw him scuff his shot into the bottom corner. Both teams went for the win but they both lacked that cutting edge.

After last week it was back to league business with Sassco.co.uk taking on Hendon FC in the Premier Division. Sassco.co.uk worked hard on a small pitch and tried to make it difficult for Hendon FC to their credit. Brian Carter opened the scoring with Hendon not at their best or passing the ball the way they can. Sassco keeper Andrew Donnelly also made a couple of great saves. Brian Carter then increased the lead to make it 2-0 half time. Man of the match Steven Clark made it 3-0, 2 minutes after the re-start with a great finish into the top corner. Hendon made changes on around 60 minutes, which caused Sassco problems resulting in goals for both James Dickenson and Gareth Hill. On 90 minutes Hendon recovered the ball from a Sassco corner and Gary Billy Whizz Innes sets off on his famed 100m dash and fired home from about 30 yards with the last kick of the game for a great finish to complete the scoring in their 6-0 victory. Gary deserves a special mention for managing to ignore Brian Put iz in Carter during the move and score his goal. 2nd great finish for Gary Innes this season from right back. Dave Simpson starred for Sassco. Hendon Secretary Michael Lynch summed up the game as A good win for Hendon on a day when we could have played better as a team but its good to win when we are not at our best. The finish from Gareth was particularly impressive considering the ball and chain he has recently acquired around his ankle. Good luck to Sassco for the rest of the season, I know theyre struggling as a team at the minute, but they should stick with it, theyve been around a while now.

Redhouse continued their good run of form brushing aside a spirited Shiney Row Travellers Rest 9-0 at Herrington. Redhouse started the game quickly and it took a series of stunning save from the Shiney keeper Steve Stifler to keep the score line level. Pressure eventually paid off however when John "wet sock" Dixon blasted home from close range following a scramble. From then on the floodgates opened, Steven Lewis, Carl Old and Neil Middlemiss all were on target to make it 4-0 at the break. Second half saw more of the same, Dale Huggins got on the score sheet before Carl Old completed his hat trick with 2 stunning strikes from the angle of the box. Veteran Steve Lewis then completed his second hat trick of the season, lashing the ball home from 25 yards before rising at the back post to head home and complete a great days work for Redhouse. Lewis and Huggins were again the standout men for Redhouse in the heart of midfield. Redhouse did however suffer a massive blow at the weekend when Tommy Bell suffered a double leg break on Sunday morning which has ended his season already. The lads would like to wish Tommy a speedy recovery and are relived he can now concentrate on his assistant mangers role rather than spending his Saturday afternoons as a 3rd striker and refusing to track back.

After last weeks fine performance FC Chesters nearly stayed unchanged against Victoria Gardens bar one with Brian Baxter coming in for Mark Lister who was at work. In heavy wind conditions, Chesters started quite well with Paul Maw having the best of the opening exchanges, chipping the keeper but his shot going wide with an empty net at his mercy. Another with a curler just passing the post & after his mazy run he was unable to find the net for what could have been a contender for FC Chesters goal of the season, and then Stephen Murphy missed from close range after beating the off side trap. Victoria Gardens were playing the long ball and, with the wind, caught Chesters with a sucker punch after a headed clearance spun high and fell nicely for a deflected shot to send the keeper the wrong way to enable Victoria Gardens to 1-0 up.
Chesters soon regrouped and were back level with Brian Baxter having a simple tap in from close range after Andrew Chorleys square ball from the bye line found him. 1-1. 5 minutes later Baxter got his second when a quality defence splitting pass saw Brian shoot on the half volley into the bottom of the net to make it 2-1 to FC Chesters. But straight after the restart and from a corner kick, Victoria Gardens hit back literally, as the resulting corner was centred and with the unmarked centre half steaming in at the back post, he actually turned his back on it and the ball went in off the back of his neck into the top corner 2-2.
Game on. Chesters were not getting the rub of the green with some refereeing decisions not going their way until eventually winning a penalty after Stephen Murphy was tripped inside the area. Baxter wanted the spot kick for his hat-trick but it was left to veteran Jon "Fatty" Wardle to shoot past the keeper to make it 3-2. More controversy was to follow after a bad tackle on Chesters Terry Clinton from two players which saw a scuffle on the ground. At this point a spectator ran onto the pitch and flung Terry to the ground. By now tempers were at an all time high and the ref ordered the spectator to leave the ground. More meaty tackles followed and Victoria Gardens were then given a third goal via a dubious penalty to make it 3-3. Brian Baxter had the chance to get his hat-trick & win the game for Chesters after his fine run saw his tight shot come back off the post. The game ended with honours even with David Robason earning a man of the match performance for FC Chesters and Dean Mackin starring for Victoria Gardens.

West End decided to rotate their 16 man squad for the game against The Cambridge changing things around to give all the lads a game. In a closely contested game played in good spirits by both teams, West End proved too strong for the Cambridge who had the bare eleven, edging a 2-0 victory with both goals coming from Michael chink McCabe. Stephen Robson starred for West End and Paul Stokoe shone for the Cambridge.

Aquatic Sports will be hoping that they are not starting a poor run of results as they struggled again with another depleted side against Hylton Colliery Juniors. Goals from Anthony Asmon(1), man of the match David Ward(1) and super sub Paul Anderson(2) were enough to secure a 4-0 victory for the Juniors. Scott Hailstone was the star man for Aquatic.

Following their defeat last week in the Alan Hood, Hylton CW are still looking for their first win in the league and they came up against a determined Hendon Grange side who were also trying to get back to winning ways. Despite a goal from John Migham and a man of the match performance from Kieran Petre, Hylton couldnt prevent Hendon from taking the points with a 3-1 victory.

Colliery Tavern, level on points with their opponents Chesters Athletic before todays game moved three points above them as a result of a 3-0 victory. Despite a man of the match performance from Leon Symonds, Chesters were unable to match the work rate and finishing of the Tavern team.

Another club without a win so far are Usworth who were no match for the inform Hall Farm Blakeneys. Despite a goal from Karl Pascoe for Usworth, the Farm took a firm grip of the game through goals from man of the match Cameron Marshall (2), Kyle Lax (2) and Ross Taylor (1) to record a convincing 5-1 victory.

In the First Division, Silksworth Golden Fleece got back to winning ways against Country Park Inn with a 5-1 victory. Darryl Pearson(1), Dean Smart(1) and Edward Wood(1) together with a brace from sub Conor Slee were enough to see off the Inn. Sub Daniel Wilson came on and scored a consolation goal for Country Park who had Clayton Avery as their star man while Shaun Wilkie was man of the match for the Fleece.

After their drubbing last week, Hollycarrside have reorganised within the club and secured their first victory of the season at home to Whitburn FC in a nine goal thriller. Goals from Jordan Ewan(2), Liam Laidler(2) and 1 each from Corey Bell and Kyle Hourigan were too much for a spirited FC Whitburn who replied through man of the match Andrew Smith(1), Ross Toward(1) and sub Ceiran Saunders. David Reed was outstanding in the 6-3 victory to Hollycarrside.

Oddies brought in their so called Superstars against Thorney Close Inn at Pork Chop Hill and left out last weeks man of the match Daz Liddle. Thorney were missing Padgey, Dunny and Peverley out of the back 4, regular penalty taker Heath on holiday and Johnson banned. Thorney dominated the opening half hour and squandered countless chances, but on the half hour wing wizard Kyle "Stick" Gibson made it 1-0 to Thorney, ghosting in from the left wing after a great ball from Brett Gillatt and fired low past the keeper. Gibson was unlucky not to get his 2nd as he hit the side netting from close range after beating his full back as Thorney started to turn the screw. It should have been 2-0 on the half hour mark as MOM and Captain Rob Brooke blazed over from 6 yards with just the keeper to beat. Oddies man of the match Andy Smith missed a glorious chance after Thorney couldnt clear but he did level it on the stroke of half time after John Bewick and Daniel Regan tangled to let Smith through to equalise. Thorney dominated the first half but the first 15 minutes of the 2nd half was all Oddies and Martin Jackson pulled off a world class save from a Smith volley from 6 yards and his overall goalkeeping was superb as Thorney were rattled. With half an hour to go Thorney sent on star man Dale Spence, coming back from injury, and it was then all Thorney as Smith went on a marauding run which blitzed Swindle and Redman as he smashed the cross bar from inside the area,... late drama moments later as Spence again raced through the Oddies defence only to be tripped as he went to shoot in the box. Alan Surtees stepped up to take the spot kick but hit the post resulting in honours even. Final score 1-1. Two very impressive teams that competed in a very entertaining game and both should push each other all the way.

In another close fought fixture Dray and Horses edged it 3-2 against Park View whos goals came from Dominic Murphy(1) and sub Robert Russell(1) who came on and gave a man of the match performance. Lee Robins(2) and Thomas Tansey(1) and a star show by Ian King for the Dray were enough to secure the points.

East Durham Spartans, currently in second place in the division, were looking to carry on their high scoring run from last week and were not to be denied, winning 6-0 against Times Inn at Thompson Park. Redhouse edged a thrilling encounter at Downhill as they came from behind to seal a 5-4 success against Hendon FC, this defeat was also the Eastenders first defeat of the season.
 A dull first half saw very little in the way of chances, Hendon however managed to take the lead when David Rush headed home. Redhouse best chance fell to Liam Wooton but his effort just went wide of the post. 

The second half saw the game explode into life,  good work from Stanness down the right saw his cross fall at the feet of Carl ‘Butterbean’ Old,  who took one touch before blasting home from the edge of the box.  Hendon were stung into action by this setback and went close through Martin Hope.  Turnbull’s mens perseverance paid off as they regained the lead in bizarre fashion, confusion between the Redhouse keeper and his back line allowed Martin Hope to flick the ball into an empty net.  Hope then quickly gave his side a 2 goal advantage as he raced clear to finish with aplomb.

Redhouse rallied however, and a cross from Borat Anderson was turned in by veteran Stephen Lewis. At 3-2 Redhouse sensed they could still salvage a point, Hendon though had other ideas as Rush grabbed  his second goal of the game. Redhouse however simply wouldnt lie down and were still contesting every tackle. Captain Dale Huggins lead by example  as he powered through the heart of the Hendon defence shrugging off increasinly desperate attempts to stop him, before winning a 30-70 tackle with the onrushing keeper to poke the ball home and give his side a glimmer of hope.  With 5 minutes left on the clock Hendon were defending as if their lives depended on it, their rearguard was finally broken as Carl Old broke free and smashed the ball home.

A draw looked likely for both sides but Redhouse capped their amazing comeback by winning the game in the final minute, a corner was swung across and the ball was like a pinball in the Hendon box and shots were being blocked and it was hero of the hour Carl Old who slotted in from close range to seal his hattrick to spark scenes of jubilation amongst the home support.

The defeat left a sour taste in the mouth of Hendon FC director of football Michael Lynch who said “I can’t believe we through that away, speechless and shell-shocked. The worst thing is its spoilt my romantic night in with our lass – instead of a kebab, a bottle of lambrini and a soppy dvd, we’ll be having a cup of tea, marmite on toast and watching a re-run of the 1986 series of the Generation Game”.

Hendon Grange Global Gym did bring some cheer to the area however as the eased to a 3-0 away win against Shiney Row Travellers Rest. Josh Joyce scored twice and an effort from Sam McCready saw the ‘musclemen’ claim another 3 points and Luke Page again starred for them.

Hylton CW shocking start to the season continued as the fell to another defeat, this time succumbing 3-1 at home to Aquatic Sports.
Aquatic won the game thanks to efforts from Craig Watson (2) and Scott Hailstone, player manager David Hoey was their star man. Hylton replied through Adam Reynolds and Tony Carr was their man of the match.

The Cambridge continue to impress as they held Hall Farm Blakeneys to a 3-3 draw. Paul Stokoe was the inspiaration for the Cambridge but it was the goals of Anthony Mullen, Scott Connor and Anthony Powell that saw the Premier Division new boys a share of the spoils.

West End kept their 100% record intact as they strolled to a 3-1 away win against Usworth.

West End clearly dominated the game but lacked a cutting edge as chance after chance went begging, it was left to Stephen Bogie to but the visitors in front with a neat finish. Just before half time Usworth shocked the league leaders as they equalised with what would be their only shot all game, Stuart Terry finishing well.

The second half saw West End camped in their opponents half and they deservedly to the lead as Stephen Lax lashed in from 25 yards. Alex Dodds completed the scoring with a well taken goal. Jamie Fryatt was man of the match for West End.

On a sour note, the game was marred by a serious and season ending injury to West End’s prolific goalscorer Michael Wharton. The latter named player suffered a double leg break and no doubt this is a huge blow to West End. The league would like to wish Michael well and hope for a speedy recovery for a very talented footballer.

Sassco UK season doesn’t look like getting any better as they suffered a 6-0 home defeat to Chesters Athletic, the defeat leaves Anthony Pearson’s charges rooted at the bottom of the table.

Chesters produced a classic display of attacking play and showed clinical prowess in front of goal as they won the game thanks to strikes from Kevin Gordon (2), Stephen Coyne (2), Leon Symonds and Marc Stephenson. Chesters star man was Kevin Brown.

 Colliery Tavern were fully value for their win as they battled to a 3-0 success against Hylton Colliery Juniors.

 The game was played at a frenetic pace as both teams created chances but were thwarted by outstanding saves from the respective keepers. The Tavern took the lead on 20 minutes as Anthony Stokell struck after good play.
The second half saw the Tavern step up a gear and duly got their second  goal as Michael Bulmer struck a stunning volley from a superb David Dixon cross. Tavern wrapped the game up as Darren ‘Armbar’ Straughan headed in.
 
 
 
FIRST DIVISION
 
Oddfellows inflicted another defeat on much fancied Golden Fleece as they won an end to end encounter 3-1.

Oddfellows were well on top in the opening exchanges and nearly went in front but Smith saw his effort trickle wide of the post. Smith however was not to be denied as he opened the scoring after playing a great 1-2 with Rowntree. The Fleece went in search for an equaliser but they were thwarted by last ditch tackles form Redman and Carline. The Fleece keeper was in fine form as he kept his side in the game making excellent stops from a Carline header and then tipping over an Airson scissor kick.

The second half saw Oddfellows lay siege to the Fleece goal as Colquhoun, Rowntree and Redman had efforts saved. Missed chances can cost you gamers and this showed as the Fleece went up the other end and equalised through Eddy Wood. Oddfellows were quickly in their stride and soon regained the lead as supersub Darren Liddle planted a header into the corner of the net. In the dying moments of the game, Smith grabbed his second goal of the game to secure an excellent three points for his side.

FC Whitburn halted East Durham Spartans surge to the top of the summit as they won an eleven goal thriller to seal their first win of the season. Dominic Solman was the toast of Whitburn as he scored four goals and was backed up with strikes from Ross Toward and Sean Williams.

Dray and Horses Troys Taxis also claimed their first win of the season as they won 2-1 at Victoria Gardens.

Times Inn and Shiney Row Country Park Inn shared the spoils at Thompson Park as they played out a 1-1 draw.

Thorney Close Inn are threatening to run away with the league as they recorded yet another win as they eased to an 8-1 win at The Saltgrass.

Thorney started really well and were ahead within 5mins, Makin saw his crossshot hit a defender and hit the post before the ball rebounded into the path of Paul Brooke to prod home. The Saltgrass hit back and were on level terms as John Hope pounced after keeper Jackson made a meal of a long ball. Thorney though were immediately ahead when Peverley pinged a 40yrd defence splitting pass into the path of Dan Makin who rifled in low and hard into the net. It was 3-1 on the half hour mark when John Bewick's through ball was latched onto by Kyle "Stick" Gibson to lob the onrushing keeper from 25yrds.  Just before half-time Beefy sent a raking pass over the top for Paul Brooke to chase and he lobbed the keeper from 20yrds.

The second half saw Thorney take a firm grip on the game as their opponents were reduced to chasing shadows. The introductionof substitutions saw fresh impetus in the play of the league leaders and Dale Spence fired in to make it 5-1 after a fine pass from Woo. Spence then grabbed his second goal thumping in a header after great work from Bewick and Nicholson. Nicholson was again the architect as Thorney grabbed their 7th goal as it was his pass that found Spence who rifled in to grab his hattrick. Page then saw his shot well saved by the home keeper but Paul Brooke was in the right place to slot it into an empty net for his hattrick.
James Butler starred for Saltgrass, Dan Makin likewise for The Inn.

FC Chesters proved to be too strong for visitors Hollycarside as they strolled to a 5-1 win.

Jordan Ewen replied in vain for Hollycarside, but Chesters were more clinical and won the game with strikes from a fantastic Paul Maw hattrick, Thomas Robason and James ‘Raul’ Macintosh. Kane Clinton starred for Chesters.

PREMIER DIVISION
 
Redhouse now have the bit between their teeth as they are now coming into some good form, they won again as they came from behind to thump local neighbours Hylton Colliery Juniors 5-2.

Redhouse started sluggishly and went behind when Lee Cresswell struck a marvellous drive into the bottom corner from around 25 yards to give the visitors a surprise lead. The home side were then stung into action and were soon on level terms as a smart pass saw Liam Wooton scamper through and he produced a sublime finish, lobbing the on rushing keeper.  The rest of the half saw both teams cancelled each other out as they were both well matched.

The second half saw Redhouse turn on the style, Wooton scored with a deft chip to put Redhouse in front for the first time. It was soon 3-1 as Carl Old scored a magnificent goal, scoring from an impossible angle Van Basten style after outmuscling two defenders – more like using his 18 stone frame!  At 3-1 Hylton looked shot to bits and Redhouse took full advantage of this as skipper Dale Huggins grabbed his first goal of the season as he produced a powerful finish after rampaging through the visitors defence. Liam Wooton capped a fine display as he went to complete his hattrick, rolling the ball into an empty net after some unselfish work from strike partner Old. 
Hylton struck late on, a mere consolation as they could not cope with the onslaught that Redhouse produced in the second half – a half which saw the home side reduced to ten men and the odd yellow card produced which left the Redhouse management team fuming.

The Cambridge produced a workmanlike performance as they defeated a strong Colliery Tavern side 3-1. Paul ‘Tyson’ Stokoe was in tremendous form as he scored twice giving the visiting defence a torrid time all afternoon, Craig Mc Shane scored the other goal for the Cambridge. Anthony Stokell grabbed a consolation goal for the Tavern for whom Steve Roberts was star man.

Aquatic Sports Jekyll and Hyde  continues as they suffered a morale sapping 4-0 defeat away to a buoyant Shiney Row Travellers Rest. Scott Hailstone starred for Aquatic, but it was all in vain as Brett Edwards found himself amongst the goals as he scored twice. Brett Rowntree starred for the Travellers.

Hall Farm Blakeneys felt they were hard done by as they could only come away with a 1-1 draw at a much improved Hendon Grange Global Gym.

Grange went straight at their opponents with an aggressive manner trying to unsettle the Farm, very little football could be played in the blustery winds but it was Farm who took the lead against the run of play as Kyle Lax thumped in an unstoppable header into the top corner.
The Farm couldn’t build on their lead as they could only play what was described as their worst performance of the season, this was confounded as the Grange equalised just before half time as Adam Campbell pounced after some schoolboy defending.

The second half was a more tempestuous affair as the Grange had Paul Carter sent off for violent conduct. The Farm tried to capitalise on this but struggled to break down the Grange rearguard who stood firm for the rest of the game. The Grange almost snatched a shock winner with the last kick of the game, but shockingly the player who shall remain anonymous shanked it wide.

Luke Page starred for the Grange.

Hylton CW believe that one win will turn their season around but they will have to wait another week as they nosedived to a 7-1 defeat at the hands of an imperious West End.
West end started brightly and were playing great football on a sublime pitch and they showed why they were top of the league as the produced a first half masterclass and they went into the interval 5-0 up. Star man Stephen Bogie scored twice in a virtuoso display and prolific marksman Michael Wharton weighed in with a hattrick.
The second half saw West End take their foot off the gas but still managed to bag another two goals to send them into seventh heaven. The goals came from Wharton as he finished on four goals and a fine finish from Clayton Cox after a flowing move. Tommy Turnbull bagged Hylton goal for whom Billy Butler starred.
Hendon FC are going great guns this season as they preserved their unbeaten run with a ruthless 4-0 win against Chesters Athletic. Gareth Hill was the toast of the East End as he bagged a well taken hattrick and Steve Clark finished the game off with a great goal.
The win keeps Hendon hot on the high heels of West End at the top of the league and this great start has delighted Head Coach Marcus Turnbull saying “I’m not surprised at the start we have made as i have set ourselves standards of which they have to be met every game, the form of the players has delighted me but if I have to pick a player who really has impressed and that is Keith Churchill who at 43 years of age is playing with the enthusiasm of a 10 year old”.
On the back of that win, Hendon received some distressing news that talismanic player Martin Jackson will be out of action for a while. This is due to a massive head injury he received whilst at a wrestling academy in the United States. We would like to wish Martin a speedy recovery.
 
FIRST DIVISION
East Durham Spartans continued their unbeaten league run going as they ran out 5-3 winners in an enthralling encounter with Shiney Row Country Park Inn.
Philip Robinson was the man of the moment as he ran Park Inn ragged all game on his way to a five goal salvo, Richard Norris replied with a brace and Marc Evans scored to set up a grandstand finish.
With their tails up from winning their first point the week before, Victoria Gardens were looking to build on the foundations they had laid. Their opponents Oddfellows Arms simply weren’t at the races as the Gardens cantered to a 4-0 win.
Goals from star man Dean Machin, Ben Stokoe, John Cairns and Graham Bosanko gave the Gardens their first win of the season.
Thorney Close Inn kept their 100% league record intact, but they done it the hard way as they eventually stormed to an 8-2 success against The Saltgrass.
Thorney are known for their slow starts to games and it showed as they found themselves 0-2 down after only four minutes as John Hope scored 2 quickfire goals to give the Saltgrass as shock lead. This setback galvanised Thorney and they found themselves on level terms on 20 minutes as both Paul Brooke and a Adam Heath penalty found the net in quick succession.  The Saltgrass were left subdued as Thorney began to show why they were top of the league and great work from Dan Makin saw the home side go 4-2 up thanks to finishes from Paul Brooke and Brett Gillatt. Paul Brooke went on to score his hattrick as his seide went into the half time break 5-2 up.
Craggas men were now in cruise control and it was long before they found the net, this time it was John Bewick crashing the ball home after good work from Gillatt. Paul Brooke grabbed his fourth goal of the game after being sent clear by Micky Woo – who is the son of legendary film maker John Woo. Adam Heath then missed a penalty with his effort clearing a block of flats. Star man Paul Brooke rounded off a fine individual performance as he grabbed his fifth and his sides  eighth goal to cement his sides place at the top of the league.
Silksworth Golden Fleece bounced back from defeat in style as they cruised to an 8-2 win against Hollycarside. The Fleece were in a ruthless mood as they won thanks to goals from Carl Young (2), Connor Slee, Dalton Mulvaney, Ed Wood, Dean Smart, Daniel Fox and an own goal.
Hollycarside replied with goals from Jordan Ewen and Liam Laidler, Dale McMahon was their star man.
DURHAM MINOR CUP
There were mixed fortunes in the County Cup as 5 of the leagues sides were in action.
Dray and Horses Troy Taxis were sent home packing as they succumbed to a 4-1 defeat at home to Stockton Churches.
The Times Inn progressed at the expense of the Willow Pond thanks to a 4-3 victory.
Park View also went into the next round after battling to a 5-3 win at home to Wardley FC.
FC Chesters faced a long journey home as they exited the competition going down 5-3 to Hartlepool St James.
Usworth were made to work hard before they finally outgunned a determined FC Whitburn 5-3 to take their place in the hat for next round draw.

Hendon FC continued their blistering start to the season as they cruised to a 5-1 win against a hapless Aquatic Sports.

 David ‘Worzel’ Rush opened the scoring with a good header and then Scott Kelly was sent through on goal and finished with aplomb as Hendon extended their lead. Aquatic continued to work hard but Rush got his second goal as he increased the lead to 3-0 just before half time.

Second half continued as the first with Aquatic battling hard but thankfully Hendon were rarely troubled. On the hour mark Hendon made it four without reply as Shaun Godfrey, fresh from watching Soccer AM in his nightgown lobbed the keeper from distance. The goal was all the more special as it was scored with his left foot. Hendon then conceded a soft goal of which Aquatic deserved for their efforts, this sent newly returned manager Marcus Turnbull into an Incredible Hulk like rageas this scuppered his sides chances of a clean sheet.
Rush then wrapped it up the game up as he went on to complete his hattrick after a fine cross from sub Hope. Star man for Aquatic was David Hoey, whilst David Rush starred for Hendon.


West End made a slow start in their game before they hit full throttle in the second half to thrash Sassco UK 10-2.

 West End weren’t  at the races in the 1st half and were fortunate to be in the lead, Sassco battled well and gave West  very little, Mick McCabe grabbing 2 with great finishes and Noddy on his debut with a quality finish from the tightest of angles. Sassco hit back with 2 goals, the first with a headed finish and the second goal was a free kick scored from inside his own half by the defender.

The second half saw a subdued West End come out and play like champions as they restored their 2 goal advantage as Jon Glenwright scored a scorcher on his debut. McCabe then went on to score 2 more goals to take his match tally to 4. Substitute Michael Wharton then stole the show as he went to hit four goals and send his sides score into double figures.

Chesters Athletic were made to work hard for their win as they fought out a 3-2 win against a vastly improved Hendon Grange Global Gym.

Sam McCready and star man Luke Page hit the goals for Global, but it was Chesters who dug deeper for the win as they grabbed the points thanks to goals from Alan Golightly, Kevin Gordon and Marc Stephenson. Chris Bewick starred for Chesters.

It was derby day at the Billy Hardy Sports Complex as Hylton Colliery Juniors locked horns with Hylton CW. It was the Juniors who have the bragging rights as they came away with a well earned 1-0 win thanks to a goal from Anthony Hall. Matty Rowan starred for the Juniors, CW’s star man was Adam Drysdale.

Colliery Tavern bounced back to winning ways as they won 6-3 at home to Shiney Row Travellers Rest. Taverns goals came from Darren Straughan (2), Ben Ward, Anthony Stokell, Jack King and man of the match Adam Bulmer.

The Cambridge claimed another win as they triumphed 7-0 away to Usworth. Craig McShane grabbed the headlines with a great hattrick, he was backed up with further goals from Paul Stokoe, Daniel Farhang and a brace from Andrew Morris.

FIRST DIVISION

A depleted Thorney Close Inn cantered to a 6-1 win against Times Inn. It took ten mins for the breakthrough when Dan Makin started and finished a fine flowing move which included a quick one-two with Paul Brooke. Makin then made it 2-0 on 20 mins as he nonchalantly lobbed the keeper after an audacious 50 yard pass from John Bewick. The Times nearly got back into the game but they were denied by a world class save from Jackson.

Dan Makin was proving to a real handful for the Times defence as he helped himself to his hattrick after the visiting keeper saved a Bewick thunderbolt. Knox was working overtime in the Times goal as he pulled off 5 tremendous saves, but he was beaten again as Paul Brooke scored after great work by Nicholson, Adams then made it 5-0 as he scored with a trademark header. Substitute Gordon entered the fray and he made it six goals without reply as he beat two players before rifling the ball into the bottom corner. The Times kept going and they got a deserved consolation goal as Mark Eden let rip from 30 yards leaving the keeper stranded as the ball flew into the top corner.

The Victoria Gardens celebrated well into Saturday night as they won their first point of the season as they battled to a 4-4 draw at Oddfellows.
Stephen Allan, Adam Laidler, Shaun King and Darren Liddle grabbed the goals for the Millfield side, but it was efforts from John Cairns (2), James Cooney and Gavin Lafferty that saw the Gardeners claim a draw.

Dray and Horses Troys Taxis FC also claimed their first point of the season as they battled to an exciting 4-4 draw against East Durham Spartans at Thompsons Park.
Stephen Davison was star man for the Dray as he orchestrated goals for Lee Robins (2), David Soulsby and Ian King. Spartans replied through Philip Robinson, Danny Keers, Ross Wright and man of the match Michael Tempest.

Park View boosted their confidence as they came away with a fine 3-1 win against The Saltgrass. The View’s win came courtesy of goals from Aidan Lowthian, Robert Russell and John Bafana. Saltgrass replied through John Hope.

TWR COMMERCIAL LEAGUE CHALLENGE CUP

Hall Farm Blakeneys cruised into the next round as they won 8-1 against Hollycarside in what turned out to be a one sided affair.

Two early well taken goals by Tom Charlton and Phil Dorian put Farm in command before captain for the day Paul Howe gave away a sloppy penalty to let Hollycarside back into the game, they then had good chances to equalise before David Jackson scored a fine goal lobbing the keeper from almost 30 yards.

The second half was much the same and Farm at times were sloppy, Dorian got a well taken second before Charlton did likewise, Dorian clinched his hat-trick with a well taken penalty before Paul Howe scored a great header to cancel out his early error from Dorian's corner. Farm were threatening a landslide now but chances were being wasted before Kyle Lax brought the house down with a sublime individual eighth goal, taking 6 men with great skills before rounding the keeper who had peformed excellent in the second half to complete the scoring and send Farm into the next round.

Hollycarside must be commended for their great attitude and spirit towards the game.

PREMIER DIVISION (midweek fixtures)

Aquatic Sports perform better in midweek as they won convincingly away to Usworth 7-2.

Hendon FC were made to work hard for their win as they scraped to a 3-2 win at Colliery Tavern, the win keeps Mr Turnbull’s men in second spot hot on the heels of the leaders.
Adam Bulmer was amongst the scorers for the Tavern whose star man was Steve Roberts.

West End remain in pole position as they were unconvincing in a 1-0 home win against an unlucky Chesters Athletic. Ian Redman starred for Chesters.

Hylton CW have hit a bad patch as they slumped to a 3-2 defeat against Shiney Row Travellers Rest.

Sassco UK remain at the foot of the table as they suffered a 4-1 home defeat against Redhouse. Despite recent defeats Sassco can take heart from some encouraging and improved performances.

The Cambridge seem to be holding their own in the Premier Division as they won 3-1 against Hendon Grange Global Gym. Craig McShane (2) and Paul Stokoe got the goals that sealed the win for the Cambridge, Global consolation came from Tony Armstrong.

Hall Farm Blakeneys were full value for their win as the grafted to a fine 3-2 win at Hylton Colliery Juniors.

East Durham Spartans leaped to second place in the table as they inflicted a first defeat on Golden Fleece as they came away with a great 2-1 win. Philip Robinson was the thorn in the Fleece side as he scored twice, Kris Tyson replied for the Fleece.

Hollycarside can breathe a huge sigh of relief as they won their first point in an entertaining 3-3 against Victoria Gardens.

FC Chesters won 3-0 away to Park View. Chesters goals came from man of the match Paul Maw who scored twice and David Branton.

The Times Inn claimed the three points as they won 6-3 in their clash with FC Whitburn.
Dominic Solman scored a hattrick for Whitburn.

Thorney Close Inn won again, but they had to do it the hard way as they laboured to a 3-1 success against Country Park Inn.

A very physical Park Inn took the lead when Ryan Scott finished powerfully that gave keeper Jackson no chance. It could have been a lot worse for Thorney had Priest’s shot found the net instead of hitting the bar.

 The second half saw Thorney come out fired up and they immediately created chances but there was no end product. Thorney finally managed to equalise as  sub Kyle Gibson evaded two challenges and drifted into the box to pull the ball back to Paul Brooke to fire home from 8 yards. Thorney were well on top now and the pressure told as Brett Gillat was hauled down in the box with the referee awarding a penalty, up stepped Adam Heath as he kept his nerve to drill his spot kick into the bottom corner. Park Inn went pressing for the equaliser and were caught on the counter attack, as the ball broke to James Smith and his pass set Dale Spence on his way and it was his pass that saw Paul Brooke grab his second goal and clinch the game for his side.

Micky Nicholson starred for Thorney Close, whilst Michael Dennis was star turn for Park Inn.

West End continued their good start to the season with a convincing 3-1 win over Redhouse.

West controlled the game with some great football in which was easily their best performance of the season. Redhouse took the lead against the run of play, with the West End keeper having a rush of blood as he came charging out to bring down the Redhouse forward and a penalty was awarded, up stepped Carl Old who dispatched his spot kick with ease. West end had the best of the first half but struggled to make their clear cut chances count.

The second half was a different story as a good left foot finish from Mickey Wharton hauled West End level. Wharton was then brought down for a penalty, and up stepped Stephen Robson who smashed it into the bottom corner. Wharton finished the game as a contest with a well taken finish putting the keeper and defender on their backside before hammering the ball home. West End had many more chances as the game came to an end but simply couldn’t put them away.

Hendon FC continued their promising start to the season as they had to work hard for their 1-0 victory against a very useful Hall Farm Blakeneys. Jason Gargett was on target for the East End side whilst Keith ‘Winston’ Churchill was their star man.

Hylton CW Juniors are more than holding their own after last seasons promotion as they pummelled league stalwarts Hendon Grange Global Gym 9-1.
Jordan Monson led the way with a well taken hattrick, last seasons top scorer David Ward bagged two goals, and goals from Andrew Kibble, Gavin Dorward, John Stokoe and Lee Bell completed the scoring for the Juniors. Paul Thompson bagged Globals consolation goal while Luke Page was star man.

Usworth and Hylton CW shared the spoils as they both fought out a 2-2 draw. Adam Reynolds scored both of Hyltons goals, Usworth replied thanks to strikes from Keith Screaton and Ross McGlen.

Colliery Tavern continued their strong start to the season as they triumphed 4-2 in their clash with Sassco UK. Goals from Darren Straughan, Shaun McGregor, James Dickinson and an own goal saw the Colliers grab the points.

The Cambridge suffered a home defeat as the fell 4-2 to visitors Shiney Row Travellers Rest.
Andrew Morris and star man Paul Stokoe grabbed Cambridge goals but they had no answer to the firepower of the visitors who prevailed thanks to strikes from Dean Sinclair (2), Jonathon Rowntree and Michael Dixon.

Aquatic Sports are enduring their worst ever start to a season as they lost yet again suffering a 7-2 battering away to Chesters Athletic.

It was Aquatic who took the lead as they were awarded a penalty, up stepped under fire player manager David Hoey to stroke the ball home. This spurred Chesters into action and on 20 minutes Kevin Gordon broke down the right to smash the ball past the hapless keeper. Gordon quickly got his second goal as he had a simple tap in after some great play from Yates.It was soon turning out to be the Kevin Gordon show as he completed his hat-trick 5 minutes before half time when he again broke down the right to beat the keeper at his near post.

Chesters started the second half playing at a high tempo and Yates made it 4-1. Good work down the right from Kevin Golightly and Gordon led to the latter passing across goal onto the path of Yates who scored his second of the game. Chesters had their tails up and were in a rampant mood and they soon made it 6-1 as Alan Golightly latched onto a long ball and he delicately chipped the keeper who was grasping at thin air. Stephen Fife then made it 7-1 as he scored from the spot after Alan Golightly had been fouled. Paul Cromack then headed home from a corner to give a glimmer of hope for Aquatic but it was too late.

FIRST DIVISION

The Golden Fleece were simply too strong for the Times Inn as they went goal crazy with a 10-0 victory. Darryl Pearson found his scoring boots as he notched 5 times, Danny Fagan hit two and they were backed up with further strikes from Ross Morton and 2 own goals. Times Inn star man was Michael Donkin.

It could be another long season for the Dray and Horses as they were soundly beaten 7-1 away to an improved Country Park Inn. Lee Robinson replied for the Dray, but it was the strikes from star man Ryan Scott (4), Marc Evans (2) and Mark Priest that saw the Park Inn grab another 3 points.

The Saltgrass got their first win under their belts as they beat a stubborn Victoria Gardens 4-1. John Hope (2), James Butler and Steven Shepherd scored for Saltgrass, as Mark Wasey replied for the Vic for whom Ben Stokoe starred.

The Oddfellows came out on top as they ground out a 1-0 win over FC Chesters.
The game started slowly and Chesters were having the better and more clear chances, Oddfellows finally got started and began to impress with their passing and moving and they then scored the winning goal against the run of play as an inswinging cross from Stanness was volleyed home in style by Liver.

Thorney Close Inn look like they will be the team to beat as they handed out a 7-2 beating to a youthful FC Whitburn.

Both teams started brightly and passing it about neat and tidy and it was Whitburn who took the lead with the impressive Dominic Solman finishing brilliantly as he found the top corner. Thorney immediately replied when Paul Brooke curled a 25yrd free kick into the top corner, 5 minutes later and it Paul Brooke who put Thorney ahead as he thumped a header into the net from a Nicholson corner. It was 3-1 on the half hour as  Paul Brooke grabbed his hat-trick with an easy tap in. Paul Hodgson celebrated his 4oth birthday in style as he scored to put the game beyond the reach of Whitburn.

Whitburn were thrown a lifeline as  Gillatt gave away a penalty just after half-time and Solman slammed it past the keeper. The game was soon over as a contest as Hodgson grabbed his second goal and Rob Brooke smashed one in as his side found themselves 6-2 up.  Paul Brooke then helped himself to his fourth goal of the game after great work from Johnson sealed the win.

FIRST DIVISION (midweek)

East Durham Spartans ran amok as they crushed Park View 10-1, Philip Robinson was star of the show as he scored 4 goals. Further goals from Kevin Falconer (2), Michael Tempest (2), Barrie Leigh and Terrence Bentley saw the Spartans put the View to the sword.

Country Park Inn were made to fight for victory as they won 2-1 against an unlucky Saltgrass.

The Times Inn grabbed an impressive win as they beat FC Chesters 3-1.

The Golden Fleece maintained their 100% record as they cantered to a 4-0 win away to Dray and Horses.

Connor Slee opened the scoring finishing impressively after a neat 1-2 with Younger. The Fleece were laying siege to the Dray goal but were thwarted by good saves and poor finishing.

The second half saw the Fleece miss numerous chances thanks to some excellent goalkeeping, but the keeper could not do anything about the Fleece second goal as star man Richard Clark finished with the outside of his boot.The game was soon over as Eddy Wood scored twice in a couple of minutes.

Hollycarside seem to have no luck at the moment as they were on the wrong end of a 11-1 scoreline dished out by a ruthless Oddfellows. Inn Andy Smith and Steve Colquhoun both helped themselves to hattricks, Adam Laidler (2), Steven Allan (2) and Rob Smith completed the rout.

Thorney Close Inn found their shooting boots as they battered Victoria Gardens into oblivion as they ran 12-2 winners.

Thorney close inn started off slower than a Mitsubishi Charisma on a January morning, a defensive lapse of concentration allowed Lewis Wright the freedom of Hill View and he cooly lobbed the ball over the despairing dive of Jackson. Thorney got on with the job in hand and tried to play the ball on the floor, Dale Spence cut in from the right to tee up Paul Brooke to tap home. Spence was soon at it again another blistering run from the right this time setting up fellow winger Brett Gillatt to fire home. Spence again went flying down the right wing, storming in the box to set up Paul Brooke for his second, Gillatt then grabbed his sides fourth goal. Dale Spence got himself on the scoresheet after good work from Gillatt.

Thorney started the second as they finished the first a through ball from Micky Nicholson was pounced on by Dale Spence who rounded the keeper with ease. Brett Gillat played a sublime pass with the outside of his left boot for Dale Spence to flick the ball past the keeper for his hat trick and to send Thorney into seventh heaven. Paul brooke grabbed his hattrick as he made it 8 when he hit a trademark free kick from 25 yards. Spence grabbed his fourth and substitute Makin slid in as his side hit double figures. Gillatt then completed his hattrick and Makin grabbed his second goal to complete the scoring.

PREMIER DIVISION (midweek)

West End came out on top in a five goal thriller as they edged to a 3-2 win against a determined Hall Farm Blakeneys. Webber and Bogie were amongst the goals for West End, Hall Farm replied through Adey and Kyle Lax.

Hylton Colliery Juniors recorded another win as they ran out easy victors 6-2 against Shiney Row Travellers Rest.

Sassco UK are enduring a tough time in the top flight and it aint getting any better as they suffered a 7-2 defeat to Hendon Grange Global Gym.
Sam McCready grabbed a brace brace and he was backed up with goals from Adam Campbell (2), Michael Jacob, Stephen Langton and Tony Armstrong. Luke Page was again star man for Global.

Hendon FC remain hot on the heels of the league leaders as they recorded a 6-0 win over the Cambridge, man of the match Martin ‘Gandhi’ Hope scored four times. Brian Carter and David Rush completed the scoring.

Redhouse bounced back with a 5-1 over Hylton CW, with Stephen Lewis pulling the strings in a virtuoso performance. Redhouse goals came from Andrew Arnold, Carl Old, Gareth Brazier, Steve Anderson and Liam Wooton.

Chesters Athletic were in a rampant mood as they stormed to a 10-0 win against Usworth.
Alan Golightly continued his impressive form as he weighed in with a 5 goal haul, Kevin Gordon scored twice, Chris Bewick, Yates and an own goal completed the rout.

Aquatic Sports got back to winning ways as they got their first points on the board after a fine 6-1 victory against a strong Colliery Tavern.
Scott Hailstone (2), Mark Fisk (2), Michael Conlon and Lee Brennan bagged the Aquatic goals. James Dickinson replied for the Tavern.
The win came as a huge sigh of relief for Aquatic manager David Hoey “its great to get a win and hopefully this will kick start our season, after every defeat we’ve had, the noose has been tightening around my neck but I believed in the boys – I knew they had it in them. I even overheard one of the lads saying he had a tenner on me getting the sack if we lost”.

In the Premier Division,Hendon FC are looking to improve on last season and they have hit the ground running as they worked their socks off to claim a thrilling 7-4 win at home to Hylton CW Juniors.

All the pressure was on the remaining management team to have a good start to the season after joint manager Marcus Turnbull eloped off almost Sven Goran Eriksson like, on a romantic holiday with his latest love interest – he is currently enjoying a two week break in the penthouse suite at Camrex House complete with a picturesque view of the River Wear. On a plus note Hendon FC are expecting substantial royalties from the Hello magazine coverage. New signing Martin Hope opened the scoring after 5 minutes with a clever finish from a tight angle into the roof of the net, Hendon continued to pressure with both teams working hard, Konch in particular was Hendon's driving force in midfield who then doubled their lead through Jason Gargett. Hylton started to rally and scored two goals in quick succession to level it, the first goal was a good free kick into the top corner. Jason Gargett got his second goal of the game to give his side a 3-2 lead just before half time when he calmly passed it into the back of the net when one on one with the keeper.

Hope made it 4-2 a couple of minutes into the second half, it continued to be an end to end game and it was played at a quick pace. Gary Innes continued to tear down the right wing and cause problems - for himself mostly, Hendon added another through Steven Clark only for Hylton to reply to bring it to 5-3, with 20 minutes to go. Hendon brought on Darren 'muscles' Morse for his debut he replied by scoring with his first touch, Hylton replied again to make it 6-4 but thankfully for Hendon, Kyle "St Tropez" Sumner pounced to grab a seventh goal and a well earned three points.

West End, formerly Jolly Potters, started their defence of the league title with an emphatic 6-1 away win at Hendon Grange Global Gym. Scorers for West End were Michael Wharton (3), Michael McCabe, Dave Sanderson and star man Stephen Robson. Star man Luke Page hit Global Gym's consolation goal.

Chesters Athletic are hoping for some success this season and they started their season in style as they recorded a hard fought 4-2 win at Shiney Row Travellers Rest. During a goalless first half Chesters dominated proceedings with both Gordon and Golightly going close with efforts and probably should have went in at half time 2 or 3 up.

The second half brought a change of fortunes, after coming under heavy pressure from a resurged Travellers Rest side, Kevin Gordon broke down the left wing and duly beat the keeper with a strong low right-footed strike from 25 yards to make it 1-0. Chesters were in full flow and quickly went 2-0 up when another run from Gordon led to a scramble in the box being finished by a powerful half volley from an acute angle from Alan Golightly. Some great linkup play between Gordon and Alan Golightly again set up the third goal with an excellent 1-2 leading to a tap-in from Golightly giving him a brace on his debut. With 20 minutes to go of the match Chesters conceded a penatly when a rash tackle from Symonds, which Travellers scored, and the Travellers scored again to set up a frenetic finale. Anthony Yates had an impressive game on his return and was rewarded in the final minute when some good closing down play led to him scoring a tap-in after the keeper came out and missed the ball.
Hall Farm Blakeneys travelled to Marley Potts and came away with all points as they won 3-2 against Aquatic Sports.

Aquatic started on top and created three or four good half chances in the opening exchanges that were defended well but with slight nervousness by a back four playing together for the first time, it was against the run of play that Farm took the lead and it was a great goal too. Marshall collected the ball on half way, spun and played a great ball out wide to Jackson on the right, he took a touch and whipped in a cross for marksman Dean Smith to head home. Farm were now well on top but unbelievably they let in an equaliser as Scott Hailstone fired home after some great work in midfield. Farm regained the lead just before half time, Watt punted a long ball down field that was helped on by Jackson to the on rushing Andy Adey who finished very well first time for a goal on his debut!! Aquatic started the second half strongly and looked to get back into it as Farm looked sluggish but the back four, Southern in particular were performing excellent and keeping the door locked. At the other end Farm were missing good chances, those missed chances came back to haunt Farm as Craig Watson equalised for Aquatics on 80 minutes. Farm looked deflated but urged on by the vocal touchline they got back on with the task and went at Aquatic, chances were passed up by Smith, Timm, Jackson and Adey and it looked like it wasnt going to be Farms day, the management then made a tactical substitution. This was to prove a masterstroke as deep in stoppage time the Farm grabbed the winning goal as Dean Smith got his second goal of the game thanks to a well taken finish. Cambridge Hotel found their scoring boots as they put a sorry Sassco Uk to the sword. Goals from Paul Stokoe (3), Craig McShane (2), star man Anthony Powell (2) and Steve Conlin gave the Cambridge an 8-0 win.

Last seasons first division runners-up Colliery Tavern went nap on their first Premier League game as they handed out a 5-0 drubbing to Hylton CW. Tavern scorers were David Dixon (2), Gavin Foot, Adam Bulmer and star man Anthony Stokell.

Redhouse are another side who are looking for success this season and they couldn't have got off to a better start as they obliterated Usworth 10-1.

Redhouse flew out of the traps and were soon ahead as last seasons top scorer Liam Wooton continued where he left off with a well taken brace inside the first 4 minutes. His strike partner Carl Old, newly signed from Aquatic Sports was soon in on the act he too had two goals to his name after linking up well with Wooton. It was one way traffic as Redhouse peppered the Usworth goal but they were thwarted time and time again by the overworked and impressive Ewan Lowrie in the Usworth goal. Wooton secured his hatrick after out pacing the Usworth backline, before debutant Steven Lewis rolled the ball into a empty net after a neat move. Carl Old then completed his hatrick on the stroke of halftime to leave Usworth shellshocked and 7-0 down. Redhouse made changes at half time and it was more heroics fo the Usworth keeper that kept the score down, but more goals did come as Old grabbed his fourth goal and the impressive Lewis headed in the ninth and the same player saved the best till last as he saw his long range effort fly into the net to send his sides score into double figures. Usworth finally pulled a goal back late on but there was not enough time for them to stage a comeback.

Steven Lewis was star of the show for Redhouse, the former Newcastle United trainee ran the midfield with a commanding display.

In the First Division, Country Park Inn got off to a solid start as they gave a footballing lesson to new boys Hollycarside. Dan Wilson led the way with a hattrick in the 9-3 win and was backed up with further strikes from Chris Priest (2), Anthony Malin, Ryan Scott, Mark Evans and Richard Norris.

The Oddfellows were hampered by players going to watch Sunderland as they narrowly lost 2-1 to East Durham Spartans. Sloppy play by the Millfield outfit saw danger man Phil Robinson bag both Spartans goals in the first 15 minutes. Oddfellows got back into the match as Adam Laider scored a consolation goal.

Golden Fleece have got off to a dream start as they crushed Victoria Gardens 5-0, goals from Shaun Wilkie (2), Carl Young, Luke Cable and Darryl Pearson ensured the Fleece a welcome win.

Times Inn were full value for their 4-2 win over Park View at a sun drenched Thompsons Park. Simon Peacock and Dave Lilwall grabbed the View Goals, but strikes from Lee Walker, Marc Eden and a well taken brace fom Neil McNulty gave the Southwick a perfect start to the season.

Thorney Close started the new campaign in 1st division WCFL against last seasons wooden spoonists the Dray & Horses (formerly The Cove), it was not all easy going as Thorney were made to fight for their 3-2 win. Thorney must have thought it was going to be a stroll and fell asleep almost immediately when a diagonal ball caught the back 4 napping and Drays star man Jordan Moore raced through and rocketed a shot into the roof of the net. Brett Gillatt immediately equalised for Thorney as he prodded the ball home after good work from Woodward. Gillatt then grabbed his second goal to put his side into the lead for the first time after some good work form Paul Brooke. The Dray were not to be outdone and weresoon on level terms, a ball over the top was chased down by the Chris Robins and he finished with ease after a fumble from Jackson in the visitors goal. With minutes to go it was Brett Gillatt who stole the three points for Thorney Close as he produced a neat finish from Woodwards 70 yard through ball.
