MATCH REPORT FOR SATURDAY 28^TH APRIL 2012

Premier Division

Hendon FC proved to be too strong for West End Pottersas they ran riot winning 10-0. Tormentor in chief was star man James Dickinson who slammed in four goals. Further goals came from Jason Gargett, Steven Clark, Anthony Oliver and a sublime hattrick from the evergreen Gareth Hill.

Hylton CWclinched the runners up spot as they won twice in three days, first they won 3-1 in their local derby at Three Horse Shoes thanks to goals from Alan Golighty (2) and Mark Cresswell. The Shoes replied with a consolation goal from man of the match Michael Bulmer.

Daniel Hodgson starred for Hylton CW.

On Monday night Hylton CW were full value for their 4-1 win against Aquatic Sports at the Billy Hardy Centre. Gareth Greener, Mark Cresswell, Darren Snowball and Dean Machin struck for Hylton. Aquatic responded with a strike from Aidan Ratcliffe.

Jack Wright shone for Hylton CW as did player manager David Hoey for Aquatic.

Aquatic Sportsproduced a smash and grab raid as they ran out 2-0 winners at Oddfellows Arms.

The home side created the first chance on 8 minutes when a good passing move saw the ball fall to Paul Simon but he fired just over. On 10 minutes Aquatics striker went clean through but his weak shot was well saved by Carl Donkin. Oddfellows had another 2 decent chances to take the lead first Andy Smith fired just wide and Paul Simon hit the post. The ref blew to put to an end a very poor first half.

Aquatic came out the better side in the second period and took the lead on 47 minutes when a ball over the top found Alan Palin breaking down the right he then drifted inside before firing into the bottom corner. The visitors nearly doubled their lead when a shot from 12 yards out was superbly tipped round the post by Carl Donkin. Aquatic were not to be denied as they finally made it 2-0 on the hour mark when a corner was cleared to the edge of the box only to see Richard Lee control the ball then rifle it straight into the top corner. Oddfellows tried in vain to get back in the game and had five good chances but some woeful finishing saw Aquatic pick up the three points.

Anthony Yates was on target in Silksworth Golden Fleece 1-1 draw against Hetton New Inn.

A much changed line up saw champions Farringdon Dolphin win 5-2 at FC Chesters who put up a splendid fight.

The Dolphin opened the scoring from a fine cross-shot from
Lee Nesbitt only to see Chesters keeper hesitate to gather
which allowed Gary Butts to tap in. It wasn’t long before it was 2-0 when Chesters were caught short at the back and Daniel Makin hit a sweet half volley into the top corner of the net. Kevin Cowley pulled one back on the half hour as he headed in following a defensive mix up.

The Chesters came out fighting in the second half and they were on level terms as Jon Wardle thumped in a header from a Dunlop free kick. The Dolphin made a few changes to try and win the game, the introduction of Paul Frame changed the game and he scored with his first touch calmly slotting past the keeper following an exquisite 50 yard pass from Andrew Place. Frame got his second goal of the game with on seventy minutes when he pounced on a loose ball to slam home. The Dolphin legend Lee Nesbitt then had a chance to put his name in local folklore when he was awarded a penalty, the pressure must have weighed heavily on his shoulders as he blazed his spot kick high and wide much to the disappointment of the travelling support. With minutes to go Matthew Frost got on the scoresheet to complete victory.

First Division

University of Sunderland romped to an 8-3 win at the expense of Shiney Row Wheatsheaf thanks to goals from Carl Thomas who rattled in five goals, man of the match Jordon Birnie and a double from Alan Ewart.

Bluestone Contruction had to settle for a well-earned point as they drew 2-2 with champions Wearside Wildcats. Luke Clayton and Craig Donkin struck for Bluestone, Wildcats responded with goals from Ashley Preece and star man Daniel Hayes.

Farringdon Dolphin are on the trophy hunt on two occasions this weekend, on Friday 4^th May they do battle with local neighbours Silksworth Golden Fleece in the final of the TWR Commercial League Challenge Cup at Meadow Park with a 6.30pm kick off.

On Bank Holiday Monday 7^th May, Hylton CW will be looking to upset the form book as they face Farringdon Dolphin in the final of the prestigious Alan Hood Memorial Trophy at Meadow Park with a 10.30am kick off.

The League are on the lookout for new teams wishing to join the league for the 2012/13 season, any team expressing a wish to join can contact General Secretary Peter Maguire on 07545549830 or via email peter.maguire@wcfl.org.ukAll new teams will be given the appropriate training on administration and Charter Standard applications.

TWR COMMERCIAL LEAGUE CHALLENGE CUP

SEMI-FINAL

Farringdon Dolphinbreezed through to yet another cup final after they put in a perfect performance to win 6-0 at Hylton CWat the Billy Hardy Centre in what can only be described as monsoon like conditions.

The Dolphin were soon in the lead after only 3 minutes as Dale Spence beat two defenders on the right and crossed for Kris Johnson to slam the ball home from five yards, n ten minutes it was 2-0 as Andrew Place beat the full back and fed strike partner Martin Hope who made no mistake from 16 yards. The game looked dead and buried after 25 minutes when Martin Hope made it 3-0 after he latched on to a clever Spence flick and coolly slotted the ball past the keeper. The Dolphin were running riot and it was almost 4-0 but they were denied by a fantastic defensive clearance

Holmes in the Hylton goal had to be on full alert as he tipped over a Karl Adams 50 yard blockbusting free kick, the goal of the game came on 60 minutes as skipper Michael Noble picked up a pass 35 yards out and lobbed the goalkeeper with the most exquisite of shots. It was 5-0 on 68 minutes, Gaige Lisle burst down the left wing and swung in a beautiful cross for the on rushing Noble to headed powerfully past the Hylton keeper. Martin Hope completed his hat trick on 78 minutes lashing the ball into the roof of the net after Spence had bamboozled 4 defenders with unbelievable tekkers. Hylton did have a shot which hit the post and a free kick well saved from Jackson in the second half. Gareth Greener starred for Hylton CW as he gave his all in the middle of the park in nightmare conditions.

The Dolphin now face Silksworth Golden Fleece in the final on Friday 4th May at Meadow Park.

Premier Division

Hetton New Innhad Chris Errington (2), Karl Powney, Chris Armstrong, Wes Halliman and an own goal on target in their 6-3 win at FC Chesters to keep up their slim hopes of runners up. Chesters replied through man of the match Anthony Clifton (2) and Kevin Cowley.

Anthony Ashman starred for New Inn.

Silksworth Golden Fleece had Dan Fagan (2) and Nathan Doran on target in their 3-5 defeat at Hendon FC.

Kris Tyson starred for The Fleece.

Hylton CW bounced back from their semi-final woes with a resounding 4-0 win at home to FC Chesters thanks to goals from Jordan Cook, Dean Machin, Kevin Golightly and star man Gareth Greener. Craig Smith starred in goal for FC Chesters.

First Division

Despite finishing bottom of the division, Park View saved their best performance until their last game of the season as they won 4-1 at home to Hollycarrside. Park View scorers were James O’Brien (2), Connor Varley and Ronald Baker. The visitors hit back with a strike from man of the match Paul Stokoe.

David Brown starred for Park View.

Wearside Wildcatswere crowned league champions after they won 3-0 at Times Inn thanks to goals from Ashley Preece, Aaron Dugan and substitute Liam Bell.

This is a fantastic achievement by Wildcats in only their first season in the league.

Thomas Foster starred for Wildcats.

Gleneagles grabbed an excellent point as they drew 3-3 at high flying Seaham Harkers Bar. Craig Collins was the influential star for Gleneagles as he scored twice and a further goal from Ethan Lee bagged a well-deserved point. Harkers Bar replied with goals from man of the match Shane Docherty, Michael Wilson and Darren Rudduck.

Adam Wasey was a man on a mission as his hattrick helped Victoria Gardens to a 4-2 win at Shiney Row Wheatsheaf, Kieron Petre completed the scoring.

FC Whitburn came out in top in a nine goal thriller claiming all three points with a stunning 5-4 win at Bluestone Construction. Jonny Shaw (2), Andrew Smith, man of the match Liam Donnelly and Daniel Wilson struck for Whitburn. Bluestone replied with goals from star man Ricky Clayton, Adam Bates and a double blast from Michael Fortune.

In the race for the runners up spot it was Seaham Harkers Bar who ran out 3-2 winners at rivals University of Sunderland thanks to goals from goal machine Matthew Mustard (2) and Marc Rudduck. The students were never out of the game and replied through Alan Ewart and Peter Gabriel.

Thomas O’Hara starred for Uni.

University of Sunderland dusted themselves down and two nights later they won 3-1 at champions Wearside Wildcats in atrocious conditions. Jack Halliday, Frank Ofoeze and Jordan Birnie struck for Uni.

The League were given the tragic and devastating news that Gleneagles Manager and Secretary Jimmy Gordon had passed away on Thursday. Jimmy ran Gleneagles FC with great enthusiasm and success over the last 5 seasons winning many trophies in the Saturday morning league and this season his team are fighting for promotion. Jimmy’s passion for football was second to none and this was summed up as he watched Peterlee Town on Wednesday night in the torrential rain. Jimmy was well known in the football circles and will be greatly missed by all his friends.

Jimmy was also an integral part of the successful Sunday league side Farringdon SC and the all-conquering Farringdon Dolphin of whom manager Craig Parkinson was in shock at the tragic news, “Jimmy was part of our team and we as a club are gutted at the news. He was a great guy to have around with a huge heart of gold, he lived and breathed football. With myself and Paul Frame going to manage Peterlee Town FC next season, Jimmy was going to run the Farringdon Dolphin next season with Karl Adams but those plans will have to be put to one side as we pay our respects to a wonderful, wonderful gentleman. All of the lads are absolutely devastated and in shock, our Sunday side Farringdon SC have a cup final this Sunday against County champions Humbledon Plains Farm and what a fitting tribute that would be if we could win the cup in his memory. R.I.P Jimmy you will be sadly missed”.

The league would also like to pass on their condolences and best wishes to the family of Jimmy Gordon.

Premier Division

Hylton CW are now favourites to claim the runners up spot after they won two games in just three days. First they defeated FC Chesters4-3 at Thompson Park.

Both sides were missing key players but it was Hylton who took the lead after the ever reliable Chesters skipper David Robason diverted a weak clearance into the path of Kevin Golightly on the edge of the box to smash in his effort without breaking stride within. With Chesters once again on the back foot and failing to string two passes together Hylton got another helping hand from the skipper by glancing in a right wing cross into his own net for 2-0. Chesters eventually started to show some fight in the final 10 minutes of the half with Jon wardle coming the closest with his 40 yard thunderbolt free kick forcing the keeper into an excellent fingertip save.

Early in the second half Wardle pulled one back and stunned the visitors after finding himself unmarked wide left and saw the keeper off his line then lofted his shot over the top into an empty net. With play back and forward it was Chesters who capitalised on the early pressure after Michael Alsop notched his first of the season not for the want of trying after skinning 4 players and then put the advancing keeper on his backside to clip his left foot effort over him to haul his side back on level terms. A Stunned Colliery side once again started to pull the strings more so from star man Jordan Cook who set up Dean Machin on the edge of the box to side foot into the bottom right hand corner through a ruck of players for 3-2 to deflate the Chesters. Dean Machin soon got his second and Hyltons fourth not long after when Cooks shot on goal was parried by keeper Paul Guy but the ball fell invitingly into the path of Machin and he gleefully tapped the ball into the net. Scott Dunlop pulled one out the bag for Chesters, his first goal of the season when he picked up the ball wide left 10 yards inside the oppositions half to go back to his own goal and bamboozled his marker with great skill and curled a shot right into the top corner leaving the keeper stranded. Hylton held on after both teams still went for another goal but the game finished 4-3 in Hyltons favour in what ended up being a hard fought out game.

On Monday night Hylton CW ran out easy 6-0 winners against a toothless Hall Farm Blakeneys courtesy of goals from man of the match Dean Machin who hit a tremendous hattrick, Alan Golightly weighed in with two goals and Gareth Greener completed the rout.

Oddfellows Arms had mixed fortunes in their games as on Saturday they defeated West End Potters 1-0.

In the midweek clash it was County Cup champions Farringdon Dolphin that had the extra bit of class and fitness as they won 5-3 away to Oddfellows Arms at Thompson Park in monsoon like conditions.

It was Oddfellows that drew first blood as they took a shock lead within 90 seconds when a cross from the right when fired home by Chris Rowntree. The Dolphin equalised on 10 minutes when Thompson set up Andrew Place who fired a half volley into the top corner from 20 yards. The home side went straight up the other end took the lead again when Andrew Middleton skipped past Butts and dinked a great finish past keeper Jackson who was injured in the collison and had to put midfield general Kris Johnson in between the sticks for the remaining 80 minutes. Jordan Thompson was again the architect on 22 minutes when he crossed for the unmarked Place to ram home to have his side back on level terms. On the half hour mark The Dolphin got their noses in front for the first time when the irrepressible Thompson skipped past 3 players and was hauled down in the box, up stepped Andy Place whomade no mistake from the penalty spot to score his 54th goal of the season. Andy Smith equalised for Oddfellows on the stroke of half time with a neat header past the stand-in keeper from a great set piece delivery.

The Dolphin came out for the second half looking to dominate and went ahead on the hour mark when Thompson again skipped past the full back and crossed for Liam Dunn to side foot home from close range. Kris Johnson made a great save with his legs from Andy Smith as both sides were going for it but it was the Dolphin who put the game to bed when Jordan Thompson set up the fifth goal with a great through ball to Place who had a simple tap in for his 4th of the game.

Andrew Middleton starred for Oddfellows, whilst Jordan Thompson shone for Dolphin with a breathtaking performance.

First Division

Seaham Harkers Barfound their shooting boots as they recorded two emphatic victories to storm into second place.

Harkers Bar trounced Wearside Athletic 8-1 on Saturday with goals coming from Darren Rudduck (3), Matthew Mustard (2), Michael Williams (2) and Michael Wilson. Athletic replied with a strike from David Wilkinson.

On Wednesday night Harkers Bar hammered FC Whitburn 7-1.

FC Whitburnproduced a Trojan like performance as they won 4-2 against Victoria Gardens thanks to goals from Alex Eleazar, Daniel Wilson, star man Kieran Laverick and Andrew Smith.

Wearside Wildcatsremain on course for the championship after a routine 4-0 win at East Durham Spartans courtesy of goals from Michael Leadbitter (2), Dan Callaghan and Andrew Leadbitter.

On Monday night both Aaron Dugan and man of the match Ashley Preece struck doubles in Wearside Wildcats 4-0 win at Wearside Athletic.

Anthony Wilkinson starred for Athletic.

Jared Jones starred for Spartans as did Thomas Foster for Wildcats.

The Times Inn had Neil McNulty, Scott Seldon and Michael Donkin on target in a stunning 3-2 win at

Hollycarrside. Luke Bell and man of the match Anthony Powell struck back for the home side.

Paul McCluskey starred for Times Inn.

Shiney Row Wheatsheafand Gleneagles shared the spoils in an entertaining 4-4 draw.

Premier Division

Aquatic Sports caused a major shock as they grinded out a 1-0 win at the expense of newly crowned champions Farringdon Dolphin.

A strong Dolphin side dominated from the off with top scorer Place having a goal ruled out for offside and Matty Frost was denied by a wonder save from Kyle Donaldson. Aquatic were quite happy in soaking up the pressure and were hitting the champions on the break and in the 43^rdminute they were awarded a penalty after Swindle had fouled in the box, up stepped Daniel Hardy to score the spot kick sending Jackson the wrong way.

Dolphin then lost keeper Jackson to injury and Brian Carter took over in goal and produced a few decent saves, but it was Aquatic keeper Kyle Donaldson that stole the show as he thwarted Dolphin time and time again with some stupendous saves including palming a Dale Spence volley round the post. Aquatic held on for a fantastic three points.

Mark Swindle starred for Dolphin.

Hall Farm Blakeneyscertainly had the bit between their teeth as they trounced FC Chesters 7-2.

It was the Farm that got off to an excellent start as Dean Smith fired in his 27^th goal of the season, more chances came and were squandered before Smith made it 2-0 with his second of the game. A minute before half time Farm took a 3-0 lead as Ross Taylor scored after excellent work by the impressive Adam Smith.

The second half saw the Farm take their foot off the gas as they let Chesters back into the game with two soft goals that were scored by Simon Meah and Stephen Murphy. The Farm sent on Kyle Lax and it was he that changed the game as he immediately teed up Dean Smith to grab his hattrick. The show didn’t stop there as Lax then went on to grab a hattrick himself with Richard Timm involved in all of the goals, Farm were relentless at this stage and only wasteful finishing denied them double figures.

Tony Dunlop starred for FC Chesters.

First Division

Wearside Wildcats had John Morris (2), Daniel Callaghan (2), Jonathan Martin, Thomas Foster and Liam Bell on target as they kept up their charge for the title with an enthralling 7-4 win over Times Inn.

Wildcats are in a great position to take pole position as they are two points behind and have 3 games in hand on leaders University of Sunderland.

Seaham Harkers Bar also have an outside chance of winning the league and they did their chances no harm at all as they handed out an 8-1 beating to Park View courtesy of goals from the mercurial Matthew Mustard who plundered in four goals, Shane Docherty (2), Kevin Falconer and Marc Rudduck. The View consolation goal came from Connor Varley.

Three own goals set Hollycarrside on their way to a comprehensive 9-1 win at the expense of University of Sunderland B with further goals coming from Jake Bell who hit a fine hattrick, star man Anthony Powell, Nathan O’Neill and Gary Carr. The students replied with a strike from star man Emmanuel Esumeh.

Man of the match Jared Jones was on target for East Durham Spartans as they lost 1-4 against The Gleneagles.

Wearside Athletic had John Hope-Hindmarsh on target as they slumped to a 1-2 defeat against Shiney Row Wheatsheaf. David Wilkinson starred for Athletic.

Final

First Division Seaham Harkers Bar picked up their first piece of silverware as they showed plenty of passion and desire to run out deserving 2-0 winners against an out of sorts Oddfellows Armsat Meadow Park in front of a crowd of 120.

Oddfellows started the brightest and created the first chance when a long ball was flicked on by Paul Simon to find Andy Smith but he fired his shot across the face of goal and wide. On 10 minutes Oddfellows had a great chance to take the lead when a long throw was flicked on by Paul Simon and the ball fell to Mark Whitfield 6 yards out but just never got the cleanest of strikes and Seahams goalkeeper Lloyd saved well. Seaham then created the next 2 chances with a volley from there striker was straight at Smith and then Mustard had his first chance at goal but dragged his shot wide. Both sides then struggled to create anything clear cut with both defences playing well and restricting both sets of forwards too half chances. The half time whistle went with the two sides evenly matched.

Oddfellows created the first chance of the half when a Middleton corner found Livingston but his header was straight at the keeper. Seaham started to get on top and created their best chance of the game on 60 minutes when good work on the right saw a low cross find Matthew Mustard totally unmarked at the back post but the usual clinical striker blazed high and wide. Seaham then again created another golden chance when again good work on the right saw another low cross find Thomas Hobkirk but he failed to score as well as his shot cannoned back off the post and to safety. With Seaham looking the most likely to score Oddfellows goalkeeper was forced into making a great save to deny Seaham from long range. On 85 minutes Oddfellows had a decent chance when a Nathan Graham freekick found Rowntree but he headed just wide. The last chance of the 90 minutes fell to Seaham and nearly won the game there and then when a corner was drifted over and a Seaham player tried an ambitous overhead kick which forced Chris Smith into another excellent save to take the game into extra time.

Harkers Bar broke the deadlock in the first minute of extra time as Marc Rudduck thumped his header into the top corner from a well driven corner kick. Oddfellows now knew they had to take a few risks and try to get back in the game and they had 2 chances to score the first a corner found Nathan Graham in a good position but was leaning back and fired just over the bar then a Gary Mcllduff drive could only find the side netting.

Oddfellows threw everything at Seaham in the second period crosses, long throws, corners and free kicks but could only create one meaningful effort when a Mcllduff low drive looked to be heading in only to see a Seaham defender put his body on the line to block the shot. The game was put to bed in the 120th minute when a free kick to Oddfellows seen everyone including goalkeeper in Seahams box but the free kick was cleared and captain Shane Docherty ran nearly the full length of the pitch to score into an empty net to send the noisy Seaham fans into raptures.

Farm started in a determined and workmanlike fashion with Adam Smith looking superb early doors, with Mark Mcginley restored to the back 4 and captain Lee Southern pushed into midfeild the side had a much more solid look to it, Farm got an early breakthru when after a scramble in the box Dean Smith grabbed his 27th of the season, further chances fell to Southern, Timm, Smith and Taylor as Farm got well on top playing some great football, Chesters were struggling to live with them, Farm went further ahead with 2 goals in 5 mins not long before half time, the first was a blockbuster from the edge of the box by Dean Smith before the best player on the pitch thruout for me Adam Smith teed up Ross Taylor for the 3rd. half time.
Farm were encouraged to carry on and go for more goals in the second half but hey this is the Farm and things dnt go straight forward, hesitant defending by Mcginley and then goalkeeper Lee Smith let in the Chesters forward for an easy goal, 5 mins later and from a free kick they were right back in it 3-2. Commeth the hour commeth the man as team captain Kyle Lax entered the fray for Ross Taylor and totally changed the game back into Farms favour, he teed up Dean Smiths hat.trick with a fine thru ball for him to lob home and also helped himself to a hat.trick of his own, all 3 were fine finishes with Richie Timm involved in them all, Lax played in a free role and was a joy to watch, it makes you wonder what would have been were he avail for the semis and quarter final games we failed in!! The last 20 mins Chesters were pulled all over and Farm couldve hit double figures, hopefully they can maintain this form for the final 2 games and the players prove they deserve to stay and play for Marshall next season.

Wearmouth & Hylton Charity Cup Semi-Final

First Division side Seaham Harkers Bar caused a major upset as they held their nerve to win a penalty shoot-out to reach their first cup final at the expense of a full strength Hall Farm Blakeneys at Herrington CW. The game had originally ended 2-2 after extra time.

The Farm had got off to a decent start when Dean Smith lobbed the keeper for the opener after only ten minutes and that was about as good as it got as they just never got to grips with things and but for good defending by Southern and Agnew they could have been in trouble as Harkers upped the pressure.

Hall Farm never heeded to a half time warning and went out to give a quite disgusting display in front of a great crowd in the second half, Seaham got their deserved equaliser early on and should have won it in normal time, an Adam Smith effort that was well saved was as good as it got for Farm who suffered injuries to Pemberton and sub Taylor. The game went to extra time and ten minutes in Seaham went ahead with a carbon copy of their first goal, a cross coming from the right headed in by their captain. Farm rallied and in the second half finally got going and it was talisman Dean Smith who scored a well taken equaliser then Farm created and missed 3 good chances to win it. So the game went to penalties and for the 4th shoot out on the trot it ended in heartache, Southern, Agnew & Marshall scored but Hall, Grainger & Todd missed and the fairy tale ended.

Harkers Bar scorers were Shane Docherty and Marc Rudduck.

Harkers Bar will now play either Oddfellows or Wearside Wildcats in the final.

Quarter-final

Oddfellows surged into the semi-finals after a fine 4-2 win against West End Potters.

A Chris Rowntree freekick found captain Davey Redman completely unmarked at the back post and he made no mistake to volley home from 6 yards out to get Oddfellows off to a flying start. The game then went scrappy and with the very windy conditions both sides were struggling to create anything clear cut. It took until the 30th minute until Oddfellows created another good chance when Stevie Allan whipped in a corner to the near post and Rowntrees flick on header seen the ball come back off the inside of the post. After that scare for West End they went up the pitch and got an equaliser when a left wing cross found Liam Brown and his shot was fumbled by Thompson and the ball trickled across the line into the goal. West End though were only on level terms for 3 minutes and fell behind again when Oddfellows Tommy Carline put a free kick into the box and after a bit head tennis the ball fell for Shaun King who rode a couple of challenges before firing into the bottom corner. West End kept going though and got there reward on the stroke of halftime when a corner got caught up in the wind and with about 5 players going for the ball it was headed in from 2 yards out with Warren Cassop claiming the goal.

Oddfellows started the better side in the second half and nearly took the lead on 47 minutes when Gareth Murrays curling effort got caught in the wind and just whistled past the top left hand corner. On 50 minutes Oddfellows, for the third time in the game took the lead when a Middleton cross found Mcllduff and he laid the ball off to Murray and he smashed the ball into the top corner from 6 yards out. The game went quiet again and once more chances were hard to come by. Oddfellows best chances were 3 freekicks awarded 18 yards out but on the 3 occasions the free kicks were all missed from Allen, Middleton and Carline. West End were getting into good positions but their final ball often let them down and Oddfellows Joe Thompson never really had a meaningful save to make in the second period. Oddfellows Gareth Murray tried an ambitious overhead kick on 88 minutes but the keeper tipped it over but he could do nothing in stoppage time when a quick free kick from Middleton saw Mcllduff go clean through and he knocked it past the on-rushing goalkeeper before putting the ball into the empty net which was the last kick off the game.

Oddfellows will now take on unbeaten first division leaders Wearside Wildcats in the semi-final.

TWR COMMERCIAL LEAGUE CHALLENGE CUP

Silksworth Golden Fleece produced a commanding display as they romped into the semi-finals after an 11-2 drubbing of Times Innwho replied with goals from star man Mark Bewick and Ryan McCabe.

Hylton CW were pushed all the way before finally prevailing with a 3-2 win at home to Gleneagles thanks to goals from Darren Snowball, Mark Cresswell and an own goal.

Jordan Cook starred for Hylton CW who now play Aquatic Sports in the quarter finals.

PREMIER DIVISION

Hendon FC despite being reduced to 10 men came out on top running out 4-2 winners in what was a fiery derby clash against Hendon Grange. Star man Carl Chapman capped a fine display and further goals from Gareth Hill (2) and top scorer James Dickinson sealed a memorable win for Steve McAneny side.

Farringdon Dolphinhave one hand on the Premier League trophy after an emphatic 7-1 home win against The Three Horse Shoes.

It was very testing conditions with the wind playing a big factor in the first half, the
Dolphin passing had too much on it and the ball was consistently by-passing the midfield, however top scorer Andrew Place should have scored but he saw his effort from 8 yards crash off the bar and at the other end Bulmer stung keeper Jacksons hands with a fierce
drive.

The second half and the wind was in the Dolphins faces the passing was instantly better the ball was worked out wide for Danny Makin who crossed to the back post and Dale Spence was on hand to head home. It was 2-0 on 50 minutes skipper Michael Noble set up Andrew Place to tap home. 5
minutes later and it was 3-0, on his 100th appearance Gary Butts made a trademark lung busting run from right back his cross from the by line was flicked on by Adam Heath and met on the volley by Place his 37th of the season. Minutes later and it was 4-0 Dale Spence saw his
shot deflect into the net off a defender. The Shoes pulled a goal back as a shot from Michael Bulmer found its way into the net via a massive deflection leaving keeper Jackson with no chance. Dale Spence completed his hat trick on 65 minutes as Marc Stephenson played the ball to Spence on the
half way line and he raced past two defenders cut into the box and finished exquisitely. James Shickle entered the fray and finished superbly a great first touch on the edge of the box and a right foot shot under the on rushing keeper the goal added by a great pass from the half way line by Karl Adams. The second super sub Brian Carter raced onto a through ball by Stephenson and the former showed great composure cutting in from the right and bending the ball past the keeper with his trusty left foot.

Aquatic Sportsand Hetton New Inn shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw.

The game got started with Hetton going straight on the attack and coming close to scoring. This was the pattern of play in the first half with aquatic playing against a strong wind but trying to get the ball down and play. Hetton had corner after corner but could not break down the aquatic defence the score was 0-0 at halftime. The second half started with each team having a couple of chances each and it was Hetton who scored first with a well taken lob from Damian Hope to make it 1-0. But it only lasted 2 mins Aidan Ratcliffe getting the aquatic equaliser.

David Hoey starred for Aquatic as did Anthony Ashman for Hetton.

FIRST DIVISION

A double from Tom Levenberger and a strike from Emmanuel Esumeh secured a fantastic 3-2 win for University of Sunderland B against Victoria Gardens who replied through goals from Graham Bosanko and Adam Wasey.

Emmanuel Ikenna starred for the students, whilst Kieron Petre shone for Victoria Gardens.

Wearside Wildcatsremain top after running out 2-1 winners in a tight contest with Hollycarrside. Goals from Brian Stevens and John Morris saw Wildcats take the three points, Paul Stokoe replied for the visitors.

Ross Roberts starred for Wildcats as did Nathan O’Neill for Hollycarrside.

Bluestone Construction had Ricky Clayton (2), Ian Douglas, Brent ‘The Blade’ McKenna and Luke Clayton on target in their 5-2 win at FC Whitburn who responded with a brace from star man Andrew Smith.

University of Sunderland are looking good for promotion after a 5-3 win at Shiney Row Wheatsheaf. The Uni took the points thanks to goals from star man Alan Ewart (2), Peter Gabriel, Dan Wilson and Frank Ofoezie. The Wheatsheaf scorers were Paul Bridge (2) and man of the match Nigel Cuthbertson.

Wearside Athleticromped to a 6-1 win at home to East Durham Spartans, with the goals coming from the lethal strike partnership of John Hope-Hindmarsh (4) and Adam McQuillan (2), the Spartans replied through star performer Scott Jackson.

WEARSIDE COMBINATION FOOTBALL LEAGUE MATCH REPORT FOR SATURDAY 3RD MARCH 2012

TWR COMMERCIAL LEAGUE CHALLENGE CUP

Hall Farm Blakeneys produced a stunning performance to advance to the quarter finals after a 3-2 win at Hendon FC.

Farm came well into the game with Kyle Lax and top scorer Dean Smith looking sharp but they were dealt a severe blow on 15 minutes however when Lax collapsed in a heap and had to be carried off with what looks a nasty hamstring injury. Stalwart Cameron Marshall entered the fray and it was he who set up the opener with a neat ball to Dean Smith who made no mistake finishing high into the net, it was a goal that Farm deserved and apart from a Jackson header against the bar for Hendon they rarely threatened the solid Farm defence with Guy Grainger in particular was having a stormer keeping Hendons star man Jason Gargett very quiet. Then with 2 minutes before half time Bowden produced a tremendous last ditch tackle on Dickinson to stop Hendon equalising, but from this the Farm went on the attack and it was that man Smith again he extended the lead with yet another emphatic finish.

The second half saw Farm pick up from where they left off and within 10 minutes it was 3- 0after great work by Southern to set up Dean Smith for his hat-trick and 7th goal in 3 games. Hendon got a lifeline after a very soft free kick was awarded and Martin Jackson thumped in a header much to the delight of the home faithful. That seemed to spur Farm on again and they should have had 3 in 5 minutes, first Marshall missed a great chance after excellent work by Bowes. Slack defending allowed Hendon to pull another goal back but Farm easily held on for a famous win.

Farringdon Dolphin were pushed all the way as they needed extra time to win 3-1 against a very determined Hendon Grange.

The Hendon boys as expected came out at a fierce pace and the Dolphin were struggling to cope with the 5 man midfield, the home side though did have some good chances in the first half as Spence, Barnfather and Stephenson all went close. At the other end Jackson saved well from an 18 yard strike and the Grange put a good chance over from 12 yards. The Grange did take the lead on the half hour when a swinging cross from the right was headed home from 6 yards by 16 year old Glyn Lamb. The Dolphin came in at half time and it was imperative that they got an early response.

Within one minute of the restart the Dolphin equalised, Dale Spence cut in from the left wing and sped into the box only to be hauled down, up stepped Martin Hope and he coolly placed the ball in the keepers bottom right corner. The Dolphin were now on top, Farron Pope was now starting to run the game from his new midfield position and it was he who broke from midfield skipped a couple of challenges and was one on one with the keeper, with all the time in the world he went for the bottom corner but his effort trickled past the post. Dale Spence had a great chance with minutes remaining he rounded the goalkeeper and with an empty net to aim at he hit the side netting. Extra time produced very few chances but Tom Smurthwaite was in the right place at the right time when he cleared off the line to deny the Grange. The Dolphin took the lead with a minute to go in first half off extra time, Kris Johnson done superbly down the right he cut inside and drove to the by line, he cut the ball back to the on rushing Farron Pope who coolly stroked the ball into the bottom corner. The Grange nearly equalised straight away as The Dolphin were sloppy at the back and gave the ball away in their own half and the ball was crossed and Shaun Metcalfe crashed the ball of the cross bar, from the rebound the Grange smashed the ball against the post. The Dolphin should have killed the game off when Pope once again broke down the left his cross to the back post had a little too much pace for Martin Hope to connect properly and the effort went wide. With the clock ticking down Marc Stephenson broke from defence and played a great ball to Martin Hope on the half way line, he rode one challenge and found a great burst of energy and outpaced Hendons last man with only the keeper to beat he rounded the goalkeeper and killed the game.

The Times Inn progressed as they knocked out Colonel Prior with a thrilling 4-3 win at Thompson Park.

PREMIER DIVISION

Hylton CW came away with the three points as they produced a smash and grab 3-2 victory at Oddfellows.

Oddfellows got off to the perfect start after 5mins when a superb Shaun Bage tackle won back possesion in the middle of the park he then fed Chris Rowntree on the edge of the box and he took one touch before curling a delightful effort round the goalkeeper into the net. 1-0. After that flying start the game settled down and it was only after 20mins Hylton created their first real chance when a through ball found Alan Golightly clean through but his shot brought an excellent save out of Chris Smith in the Oddfellows goal. Hylton then won a free kick which was floated in but their header flew just over. Oddfellows then had a great chance to double their lead when a long clearance found Mcllduff but his fizzing drive from 12 yards was well held by the visiting goalkeeper Kieron Holmes. It was Hyltons turn to attack and good work from Ged Huntley on the left seen him go clean through but his powerful effort was superbly tipped over by Chris Smith. Hylton were enjoying a good spell of pressure with a flurry of corners but to no avail. A counter attack from Oddfellows saw Rowntree beat 2 defenders before shooting straight at the goalkeeper. Hylton then broke up the other end straight away and a right wing cross found an unmarked Golightly but his header went just over when it looked easier to score. Hylton then had a long range effort what was saved by Smith and then he made another excellent save with the rebound. The away side then won a penalty when Shaun Bage was adjudged to have dragged striker back and even the Hylton players looking very surprised at the decision, the penalty was dispatched with ease in the bottom right hand corner.

Hylton started the second half the better side and a break from them seen them go 3 on 2 in their favour but the striker made the wrong decision and fired high and wide. Hylton though did take the lead on the hour mark with another disputed goal when there left winger clearly pushed Oddfellows full back Stevie Allan but was allowed to continue and the ball broke to Alan Golightly on the edge of the box and he superbly curled past Chris Smith into the bottom corner. 5 minutes later Oddfellows struck straight back when good word from Mcllduff on the left seen his deep cross find Stevie Allan on the corner of the box and his excellent first time right foot half volley arrowed back across the keeper into the far corner. The home side should of taken the lead 2 minutes later when Mcllduff went clean through but his shot just trickled the wrong side of the post. Substitute Darren Snowball then had 2 chances for the away side first was a curling effort what hit the side netting then a quick free kick from Hylton was allowed to go even though Oddfellows Dave Redman was on the floor injured seen Snowball go clean through but Chris Smith made another excellent save and then smothered the rebound. Hylton though dramatically snatched the points in the last minute when a deep cross found the unmarked Alan Golightly who headed past Smith to spark wild celebrations for the away side.

The Three Horse Shoes had too much class as they triumphed 6-3 at FC Chesters.

The Shoes got off to a flying start going for it from the off after a couple of shots stopped by the Chesters keeper they took the lead as Liam Wooton shot from just inside the box only to be denied by the crossbar and the rebound was headed into the net by Micheal Bulmer. Gavin Foot then made it 2-0 with a well struck penalty as Bulmer was felled in the box. The Shoes were rampaging forward with ease and Bulmer scored twice more to complete his hattrick, further goals came from David Dixon and Chris Robins. Chesters replied with a brace of goals from Anthony Clifton.

Hollycarrside produced a shock result as they hammered high flying University of Sunderland 7-2. Luke Bell starred in the goal fest as he rifled in a fine hattrick, the prolific Paul Stokoe notched twice and goals from Jake Bell and Dylan Oxberry completed the scoring. The students replied with goals from Carl Thomas and Jordon Birnie.

Jonathon Howard starred for Uni.

Mansur Aminu was too hot to handle as he starred in Wearside Wildcats 6-3 win at home to Victoria Gardens helping himself to four goals in the process. Daniel Callaghan and Andrew Leadbitter completed the scoring for the table toppers. Adam Wasey struck an excellent hattrick in reply for the Gardens.

Adam McQuillan struck the consolation goal for Wearside Athletic in their 4-1 defeat at Gleneagles.

FC Whitburn continue to climb the table as a double strike from Andrew Smith saw them win 2-1 against Park View who replied with a strike from Robert Russell.

David Brown starred for Park View.

Shiney Row Wheatsheaf won 5-1 at University of Sunderland B courtesy of goals from man of the match Chris Bailey (2), Paul Bridge (2) and Matthew Murphy. The Uni hit back with a goal from star man Emmanuel Esumeh.

East Durham Spartans and Bluestone Construction shared the spoils in an entertaining 3-3 draw. Lee Wood (2) and Michael Hartley struck for Spartans, Ricky Clayton, Alex McDonald and Michael Fortune hit back for Bluestone.

MATCH REPORT FOR SATURDAY 25^TH FEBRUARY 2012

DURHAM MINOR CUP SEMI FINAL

Hendon FC booked their place in the final with an outstanding 4-2 win at Bowes FC.

Hendon Traveled down to Bowes for the Prestigious Minor cup semi final and were immediately delighted with the amount of air miles clocked up finding the pitch.

Hendon were not at full strength due to injuries and work commitments, but Keith “the old Shepard” Churchill was present again to guide along his flock. Hendon got at Bowes immediately and found success early on when man of the match James Dickinson unselfishly squared the ball when in on goal for Jason Gargett to finish into the corner of the net. Hendon were on top at this point and quickly added to the scoreline when Gareth Hill slotted under the keeper with a ‘textbook’ finish that his students would have been proud of. After some great football in the middle of the park from Kevin Morton and Scott Kelly, Martin Jackson kept a cool head as he steamed through the Bowes back four and when one on one with the keeper coolly chipped the ball over him. 3-0 with 30 minutes gone and Hendon looking in control, despite some very neat football from Hendon the score remained that way until half time.

Only concern for Hendon at half time was turning round and suffering from some dubious offside decisions in defence that they had suffered in attack in the first half – a county cup tradition. The referee was having a great game to be fair, but the Wearsiders fears were confirmed when Bowes got two goals in 5 minutes after the restart from some very dodgy decisions. The second was just plain offside. Bowes to their credit had changed the formation and we were now in a game and it was end to end stuff with Hendon’s defence sitting in to avoid the need for a linesman to make any call other than a throw in. Mickey Gilby threw himself at everything – including our keeper’s knee and kept Hendon in it at times. A close second half but Gareth Hill finished it off on 89 minutes with another good finish.

Hendon can now look forward to an all Combination League final against Farringdon Dolphin at a date and venue yet to be confirmed. This is the second season in succession that the league has had two finalists.

PREMIER DIVISION

hree Horse Shoeshad too much class and guile as they eased to a 4-0 win at home to Silksworth Golden Fleece.

Straight from the off The Shoes took the bull by the horns and went for it with all guns blazing and the first goal came from Jordyn Moore on three minutes and the same player he should have had a hattrick in the first 10 mins but the Fleece goalkeeper made 2 outstanding saves. The second goal came from Michael Bulmer and it stayed like that till half time as soon. As the second half started Moore hit the back of the net again and the last goal came from David Dixon. The Fleece played some great football but things just didn’t go their way on the day.

Liam Wooton starred for The Shoes as did Shaun Smith for The Fleece.

West End Potterswon the battle of the bottom two as they came away with the three points after a 5-2 success at Colonel Prior.

FIRST DIVISION

Seaham Harkers Barwere pushed all the way before finally winning 2-1 against East Durham Spartans. Michael Wilson hit both goals for Harkers with Lee Wood bagging the reply for Spartans.

Thomas Hobkirk starred for Harkers, whilst Daniel Wright shone for Spartans.

Wearside Athletichad star man Craig Lamb on target twice and further goals from James Butler and leading scorer John Hope-Hindmarsh in their 4-3 win at Bluestone Construction who replied with goals from Brent McKenna, Ian Douglas and Luke Clayton.

Craig Collins struck five times in Gleneagles 7-1 win at University of Sunderland B, further goals came from Tony Hammond and Alan Oliver. The students consolation goal came from Adam Ross.

QUARTER FINALS

Hetton New Innstormed into the semi-finals as they won 4-1 against Hollycarrside thanks to goals from Gary Headen (2), Chris Armstrong and Wes Halliman. Hollycarrside hit back with a goal from the outstanding Luke Bell.

Hylton CWproduced a workmanlike performance to progress after a fine 2-0 win at Aquatic Sports.

IT WAS A GAME OF VERY FEW CHANCES WITH BOTH KEEPERS NOT HAVING THAT MUCH TO DO BUT IT WAS HYLTON WHO GOT THE TWO GOALS TO PUT THEM INTO THE SEMIS WITH SOME GOOD BUILD UP PLAY AND PASSING. AQUATIC HAD A FEW CHANCES THEMSELVES THE BEST A CRACKING DRIVE FROM 25 YARDS FROM DAN HARDY WHICH HIT THE UNDER SIDE OF THE BAR AND BOUNCED OUT. HYLTONS FIRST GOAL WAS A NEAT STRIKE FROM JUST INSIDE THE BOX ON THE ANGLE TO MAKE IT 1-0 AND THEN IN THE SECOND HALF THEY MADE IT 2-0 WITH A FIERCE DRIVE FROM 20 YARDS AFTER A MIX UP IN THE AQUATIC DEFENCE. DEAN MACHIN AND JORDON COOK SCORED HYLTON AND THEIR STAR PERFORMER WAS GARETH GREENER.

Farringdon Dolphineased into the semi-finals with a 4-0 win against Shiney Row Wheatsheaf.

The Dolphin totally dominated from start to finish as leading scorer Andrew Place hit the post and missed two one on ones, Martin Hope also missed two one on ones. Further chances went begging from Noble, Makin and Gaige Lisle.

The second half started and the Dolphin again squandered numerous chances and the breakthrough finally came after 50 minutes as Danny Makin beat the left back and swung in a cross deep to the back-post Gaige Lisle expertly brought the ball down and hit a left foot screamer into the back of the net. On the hour mark Martin Hope doubled the lead, Farren Pope broke from defence and played a 60 yard pass that split the opponents defence Hope raced through and exquisitely lobbed the keeper. It was 3-0 ON 65 minutes as Noble carved the opposition open and played a great ball to Andrew Place who calmly slotted home from 6 yards for his 35^th goal of the season. On 70 minutes Pope flicked a long ball on to Kris Johnson whose shot was well saved only for the ball to fall back to the Pope who finished with aplomb. The Dolphin were reduced to 10 men when keeper Jackson limped off with a hamstring injury and Swindle kept goal for the final 10 minutes.

Michael Noble was outstanding for The Dolphin. Andrew Elder took the star man award for The Wheatsheaf with a tremendous goalkeeping display that kept the score down.

WEARMOUTH & HYLTON CHARITY CUP

QUARTER FINALS

Hall Farm Blakeneysneed extra time to win 2-1 to reach the semi-finals at the expense of a brave FC Chesters. A brace of goals from Dean Smith did the trick for Lee Bogans men, Chesters replied with a goal from Anthony Clifton.

Farringdon Dolphinare through to the final after the outstanding Martin Hope inspired them to an excellent 2-1 win against a very strong Hartlepool Rovers.

The dolphin were backed with a good crowd and they started very positive, the Rovers team soon realised that there physical and persistent reckless challenges wouldn’t deter the Dolphin team and the Dolphin boys were coming out on top in both the physical and technical play. For the first time in six games the dolphin took the lead as Dale Spence went on a mazy run cutting in from the right hand side and played a great through ball, splitting the twodefenders, it looked as though the pass might have just had a little too much pace on it but Martin ‘Gandhi’ Hope showed great determination and nicked the ball past the on rushing keeper and stroked it into the net. The Rovers tried in vain to make any clear cut chances and their frustrations boiled over with a number of dangerous challenges punished with yellow cards. The Dolphin on the other hand tried to play on the floor in the testing conditions as Marc Stephenson had a shot that hit the bar as did Swindle, Andrew Place should have scored when one on one with the keeper but he hit it straight at the keeper. Place kept his head up and did score on the stroke of half time to extend his sides lead, once again Dale Spence with the assist his pass and leading goalscorer place made no mistake firing in the bottom corner with his left foot from 8 yards.

The second half Rovers had the wind on there backs but were reduced to long balls with the Dolphin forwards and midfield pressing the opposition into mistakes. The next goal was always going to be crucial and from nowhere the Rovers pulled one back as the ball was sent into the area and a Rovers player hooked the ball on and scored a wind assisted shot/cross straight into the top corner giving keeper Jackson no chance. The game was played out mainly in the Rovers half for the final ten minutes much to the Dolphin management and fans relief, no chances and no final onslaught for the hard working Rovers lads. A great win and team performance, and after only two seasons in the Combination League a place in the prestigious Durham Minor Cup final awaits for the Dolphin who now await the winners of either Bowes FC or Hendon FC.

PREMIER DIVISION

Silksworth Golden Fleece eased their relegation worries with a 4-2 win at FC Chesters thanks to goals from man of the match Shaun Wilkie who fired in a showstopping hattrick, the other goal came from Matthew Robson.

Hetton New Innhad star man Damian Hope, Gary Headen and Anthony Ashman on target in their 3-1 win at West End Potters.

Oddfellows won 4-2 in a hard fought encounter against Three Horse Shoes.

The game kicked off and THS created the first chance after 10 minutes when Bulmer went clean through on goal but lost his composure and sliced the ball high and wide of Chris Smiths goal. The game came a bit scrappy and Oddfellows were on the receiving end of some feisty tackles as expected when we play this side. The visitors though did take the lead on 20 minutes when there striker broke through 1 on 1 but Chris Smith saved well but could only watch as the rebound fell to Anthony Stokell and he calmly slotted home into the empty net. THS nearly doubled their lead when a fierce shot from 20 yards hit the top of the crossbar. Oddfellows finally started getting into the game and nearly equalised when Andy Middleton beat 2 men on the left and crossed for Rowntree who took it round the keeper but just couldn’t find the net from a very tight angle. Two minutes later though Oddfellows did draw level when a long ball found Rowntree who then beat 2 defenders before finding the bottom corner from 20 yards out. Oddfellows then had a great chance to grab the lead when a corner found Murray free in the box but his shot was well saved and then Paul Simon fired the rebound against a THS defender who done well to clear off the line. THS though took the lead just before half time when a left wing cross found Jordyn Moore at the back post who made no mistake firing past Smith.

The second half saw Oddfellows raced out of the blocks and grabbed an equaliser on 47 minutes when a Stevie Allan corner was fumbled by the goalkeeper and Mark Whitfield was in the right place at the right time to stab the ball home from 2 yards out. Oddfellows kept the pressure on and took the lead on 50 minutes when great work from Murray saw him win the ball on the halfway line who then played a great 1-2 with Rowntree to send Murray clean through on goal and he made no mistake sliding the ball underneath the on rushing keeper. THS nearly hit straight back though when there striker was found in the box but his shot was saved superbly by Smith then a minute later a right wing cross from THS seen the ball fall to their striker totally unmarked 8 yards out but shot wide of Smiths goal. On 55 minutes Oddfellows grabbed a fourth when Rowntree sent Andy Middleton clean through and the winger coolly smashed the ball into the top corner to totally silence the large away following. With THS looking a bit shell shocked they struggled to create any clear cut chances with the Oddfellows defence standing strong. THS pilled forward in the last 10 minutes and nearly got a consolation when a cross from the right caused a mass goalmouth scramble but Oddfellows finally cleared to safety.

Hall Farm Blakeneysproduced their best performance to date as they won 4-2 at home to Hylton CW. Star ma Dean Smith (2), Trevor Todd and Cameron Marshall struck for Lee Bogans side. Hylton replied with goals from Dean Machin and Darren Snowball.

Hendon Grangeremain second in the table after they cantered to a 6-2 win at Colonel Prior.

FIRST DIVISION

East Durham Spartansedged a seven goal thriller as they won 4-3 against Victoria Gardens. Spartans scorers were man of the match Jared Jones (2), Andrew Brown and Michael Hartley. The Gardeners replied through Adam Wasey and star man Kieron Petre.

University of Sunderland B had star performer Emmanuel Esumeh (2) and Adam Ross on target in their 3-1 win over Times Inn.

Gleanagles romped to a 4-0 home win against Park Viewwho had Aidan Lowthian as their best performer.

Bluestone Construction battled their way to a 3-2 win at home to Hollycarrside who replied with a brace of goals from man of the match Paul Stokoe. Bluestones match winning goals came from Michael Fortune and a quickfire double blast from star man Luke Clayton.

DURHAM MINOR CUP QTR FINALS

The league have two teams through to the semi-finals of the prestigious Durham Minor Cup.

Hendon FC fought their way through to the semis as they required extra time to finally prevail 2-1 against a very strong and previously unbeaten Hartlepool Gillen Arms.

Hendon could have been 3-0 up inside 15 minutes but did not take their chances, pick of the bunch was a well hit shot from Steven Clark that rattled the post with the keeper rooted. Hartlepool battled on and played their way into the game but Hendon defence did not give them many chances and looked solid. The evergray (sorry evergreen) Keith Churchill was back in the fold and looking to add the winners medal he got back in 2001. After 35 minutes Jason Gargett finished well into the corner after some good work down the left by Clark and Kelly. By half time Hendon were on top but then let Gillen Arms back into the tie when the lost their concentration and let their opponents equalise. End to end stuff from here on with chances for both teams, but Hendon guilty of not taking the better ones that were presented. It looked like it was going to be one of those days and the game went into extra time and Graham Thornton followed up last weeks hat-trick with a great effort from 30 yards only to see the keeper pulled a tremendous save off. With 10 minutes to go Hendon got the winner when Scott Kelly muscled his way into Gillen Arms box and fired the ball under the Keeper. Great game MOM for Hendon Scott Kelly.

Farringdon Dolphin also made it through to the semi-finals as they too had to scrap for their last gasp 3-2 win against former winners Middlestone Moor Masons Arms at Herrington YMCA.

The Dolphin got off to a terrible start as they conceded after just 7 minutes after the Masons Arms forward finished with ease after some great wing play. The Dolphin kept cool and for the remainder of the half dominated with some exhibition football, Swindle volleyed over from a Hope free kick, Hope curled a shot just over the bar, Farran Pope's free kick was well saved on the stroke of half time.

The 2nd half and it was all one way traffic, Andrew Place was unlucky when his 18 yard shot hit the bar and bounced on the line, Martin Hope beat the keeper but his shot was blocked on the line by their giant centre half. It took a real moment of quality to equalise as Pope beat a couple of challenges and released Danny Makin who beat the full back and swung in a perfect cross to the back post where Martin Hope was on hand to head the ball expertly in the bottom corner, giving the keeper no chance, sparking wild celebrations on the Dolphin side line. It didn't take long for the Dolphin to take the lead, Gary Butts played in Gaige Lisle and his shot was blocked, the rebound was rifled home by the outstanding, stand in skipper Kris Johnson. The Dolphin were in total control and took their foot off the gas yet again and should have killed the game off, inevitably the Masons threw there man mountain centre half up front and the Dolphin gifted the Masons a free kick out on the right, The Dolphin failed to defend properly and let the little winger alone at the back post he rifled a terrible shot, so bad that it turned into a brilliant cross and found its way into the net cue wild celebrations from the Masons Arms large following. With 40 seconds left on the clock, Gaige Lisle found enough energy to skin the left back and he crossed for Danny Makin to blast home, cue even wilder celebrations.

Wearside Wildcats were also in quarter final action but were unlucky to lose 3-1 after extra time against Bowes FC. Michael Leadbitter struck in vain for Wildcats and their star performer was Daniel Haynes.

University of Sunderland went through to the next round as they won 3-1 at home to East Durham Spartans thanks to goals from Jordan Birnie, Dan Wilson and Nicholas Smith. Gordon Wallis starred for the students.

PREMIER DIVISION

Hylton CW produced an excellent team performance to win 2-1 at high flying Hendon Grange. Dean Machin and Darren Snowball struck the winning goals for Hylton who had goalkeeper Kieron Holmes as star man.

Three Horse Shoes have shown improvement in recent weeks and it continued with a workmanlike 3-1 win at lowly Silksworth Golden Fleece. The Shoes won with goals from Jordyn Moore (2) and man of the match Liam Wooton. The Fleece had star man Shaun Wilkie on target.

Oddfellows were pushed all the way in their 2-1 win at Aquatic Sports.

Oddfellows started the brightest and after a 15 pass move the ball fell to Gareth Murray who shot just over after 2 minutes. The visitors kept on top and should of took the lead on 10 minutes when good work from Rowntree found the unmarked Andy Smith but his powerful drive was straight at the keeper. Another good chance fell to Oddfellows when great link up play by forwards Smith and Rowntree seen Smith go through on goal but his shot was again straight at the keeper and was still searching for that elusive goal since returning from a 12 week injury lay off. Aquatic were struggling to create anything and efforts what they did get were off target. Oddfellows then created another great chance when again Rowntree released Smithbut this time the striker took ages to make his mind up where he was going to shoot and that give time for the Aquatic defender to get back and make a super last ditch tackle to save his team. Oddfellows were in control of the game and Andy Middleton tried a long range free kick what the keeper saved superbly, from the resulting corner which found Andy Smith but his header was handled off the line and a penalty was given. Chris Rowntree dispatched the spot kick emphatically to give the visitors the lead. The visitors grabbed a quick second to extend their lead on 35 minutes when an excellent through ball from Rowntree fed Middleton down the right and he picked out Gareth Murray who made no mistake from 6 yards out to smash home. Oddfellows nearly grabbed a third when some neat passing from Livingston, Rowntree and Smith saw the ball go back to Livingston who found himself all alone but shot straight at the Aquatics keeper. Then a Dave Redman mistake let Aquatics big striker go clean through but his fierce drive was superbly saved by Chris Smith who stood strong, this was Aquatics best chance of the game by far. Oddfellows created another 2 good chances before half time but Mark Whitfields and Nathan Grahams efforts were both well saved by the Aquatics keeper.

The second half started but after 15 minutes of it neither side forced any clear chances. Aquatic then won a free-kick which was took but went straight through to the keeper but to everyones surprise the referee pointed to the spot. After long protests Dean Smith stepped up to take the kick but Chris Smith done excellent to save the penalty but could do nothing with the rebound which was blasted home by Smith much to his relief. Aquatic now were the much better side and forced a flurry of corners but couldn’t force a decent effort. With Oddfellows struggling to create any thing up tops the ball was quickly coming back at them and resulted in Aquatic going through on goal but an excellent last ditch saving tackle from Billy Pemberton kept the away side in the lead. Oddfellows had a great chance to kill the game off when Andy Middleton stole the ball off Aquatics defender on the edge of the box but lost his nerve and blasted high over the bar from 8 yards out. Middleton though done much better with another effort when he hit a fantastic half volley towards the top corner from 25 yards but the keeper was equal to it and saved superbly by Joshua Atkinson. With the game going into the last minute Aquatic went for one final push and it nearly paid off when a Billy Pemberton headed back pass was a bit short for Smith and there striker nicked in first to lob Smith but to the full relief of the team seen the ball go just over.

Alan Palin starred for Aquatic as did Chris Rowntree for Oddfellows.

Hall Farm Blakeneys put aside their recent wretched form as they battled to a 2-1 win against Hetton New Inn.

FC Whitburn stormed into the quarter finals after they produced a stunning smash and grab raid winning 2-0 at runaway Premier Division leaders Farringdon Dolphin.

The game finally got the go ahead after both managers agreed to play

despite a section of the pitch still being frozen solid. The Dolphin kicked off

and for the first 10 minutes of the game, it was a pretty even tie, with the

Dolphin shading more possession. It didn't take long for the Barca strips to

flood forward and create their first chance of the game however debutant

keeper Adam Baker gathered the ball with safe hands and released the ball

quickly with a throw to set up a counter attack. Whitburn came forward with

Liam Donnelly, who then played through Alex Eleazar on the edge of the

box to fire into the far bottom corner from a tight angle. As the game

progressed the Dolphin dominated possession however a stubborn

Whitburn side proved to be a tough unit to break and even had a clear cut

chance to double their lead. Right back Jack Fawcett played through lone

striker Robbie Campbell who only had the keeper to beat but failed to make

it count. Whitburn had to weather the storm after a fair few half chances fell

to the opposition, including a penalty claim that was turned down by referee

Mark Swinney, to make it to half time.

The second half got under way and it was always going to be one way traffic

as the Dolphin desperately tried to get that elusive equaliser. Whitburn set

up the way they ended the first half, trying to defend what they had.

Throughout the half goal keeper Adam Baker made some tremendous saves

any keeper would have been proud of, including 2 or 3 from point blank

range. The Dolphin continued to enjoy plenty of possession but couldn't use

it where it counted, as soon as the ball was in their possession in Whitburns

half they could only go backwards without resorting to a long ball attempt.

Mid way into the second half, a second penalty claim was turned down by

the referee, however it proved an easy decision given the theatrical fall by

the Dolphin striker. During the latter stages of the half, Whitburn were

getting more joy on the ball, and countering more and more effectively, but

still had a massive task on their hands to continue to keep out the premier

league side. Winger Andy Smith dispossessed his man and played Alex

Eleazar through who galloped deep into the Dolphins half nevertheless he

couldn't find the clinical touch to kill the game. With not long to go there

were a lot of Whitburn legs tiring and cramping up, so changes were made

with winger Andy Smith being replaced by Sean Williams for the final 10 and

Alex Smiles replacing the experienced Lee Carrick for the last 5. The last 10

minutes was a total bombardment of long balls being attacked by Barca

shirts as Whitburn continued to frustrate their opponents. The one rare

occasion where keeper Baker was beaten, centre half Dayne Weir was there

to clear off the line in acrobatic fashion. Last minute of the game and the

Dolphin were awarded a corner, so naturally up came their keeper. The

corner came in but was defended with the ball falling to right back Jack

Fawcett who sprinted down the right and played a superb pass to captain

John Bailey who only had to run the ball into an empty net and secure

Whitburns victory.

Adam Baker starred for FC Whitburn as did Michael Noble for Farringdon Dolphin.

FC Chesters also caused a mighty upset as they had to come from behind to win 2-1 against a shell shocked Hendon FC.

Hendon started the brighter who soon put Chesters defence on the back foot forcing the keeper into an early save. Steven Clark had a glorious chance to open the scoring after finding himself free one yard out with an open goal only to scuff his effort high over the bar for the miss of the season. Clark soon put this out of his mind when he set up Jason Gargett to turn on a sixpence on the edge of the box to fire low into the bottom corner well out of reach of the diving keeper for 1-0. Hendon seemed to be in full control of the game even though Chesters leading marksman Anthony Clifton squandered a glorious opportunity to level the game shooting straight at the keeper. With 10 minutes to play Chesters were awarded a free kick just inside Hendons half, Greenwell and Murphy played a quick one which saw Murphys pin point left wing cross fall sweet on Jon Wardles head to fire across goal into the back of the net. With Hendon losing concentration through some dubious referee decicions for both teams Chesters got a second just before half time thanks to Anthony Clifton who beat the offside shouts to run in on goal to chip the keeper to the delight of the home crowd.

Hendon came out strong for the second half again looking for the equaliser leaving gaps at the back. Clifton once again went close with his effort. Hendon thought they had done enough to pull one back when skipper Kevin Mortons goalbound effort hit Chesters Scott Dunlop protecting the near post from a corner kick. Subs were made by the home team which saw the return of Paul Maw. Maw should have done better with his first chance on goal only to knock it straight into the keepers arms. Clifton and Maw had further chances to kill the game off with Clifton rounding the keeper to hit the side netting and Maw with a volley just over the bar.

It looked like Chesters would pay for missed chances when Hendons all-out attack nearly paid off after two fine blocked efforts from Dave Robason and a goal bound effort deflected out for a corner kick in the very last min from a diving header by Stephen Lydon saving the day and from the resulting corner the ref blew for full time.

Oddfellows progressed into the quarter finals after triumphing on penalties against luckless Aquatic Sports who pushed their opponents all the way after the tie had ended 1-1 after extra time.

The first ten minutes was a midfeild battle until Oddfellows created the first chance when Whitfeild found King who fed Rowntree and he took it round Donaldson in the Aquatics goal and shot from a tight angle but an Aquatic defender just cleared the ball off the line before it went in. Aquatic then broke away and found themselves 3 on 2 in their favour but there striker dragged his shot wide when he should of really passed. Aquatic then won a corner which was whipped in but Redman's volleyed clearance hit Carline then straight into Chris Smiths hands and a lucky escape for Oddfellows. The home side then won a free kick which Stevie Allan whipped in and found Rowntree who tried a spectacular volley but watched in vain as it hit the outside of the post and out to safety. Oddfellows then had a great chance to take the lead when they won a free kick 25yrds out which Tommy Carline struck low and hard only to see Donaldson make a great save but could only watch as the rebound fell to Paul Simon but he somehow shot straight a Donaldson who made another great save. With Oddfellows well on top won another free kick which was took quickly to release Murray clean through but yet again Aquatics keeper saved superbly. Aquatic finished the half with 2 chances of their own the first forced Chris Smith into a smart save and the second a long range effort which just went wide of the top left hand corner.

Oddfellows started the brightest and created the first chance when Carline's long ball was flicked on by Rowntree and found Paul Simon but once again Donaldson rescued Aquatic with another great save. Oddfellows kept on top and a cross from Paul Simon looked to be heading straight for Shaun Kings head but only could watch as Donaldson got fingertips to the ball to take it away from him. Oddfellows then won a corner which was flicked on by Paul Simon to find Davey Redman but he headed just wide from 6 yrds out. Chris Rowntree then saw a header just flash wide. On 75mins though Oddfellows finally beat the impressive Aquatic goalkeeper when Rowntree fed Paul Simon down the right and his cross found Shaun Bage who volleyed home from 8 yards out despite being under heavy pressure by an Aquatic defender. Aquatic now changed formation and pilled forward and created their first chance of the half on 80 minutes a right wing cross found there striker but seen his header cleared off the line by Tommy Carline then another driven cross from Aquatic seen there striker glance his header just wide. Aqautic though did grab a dramatic equaliser on 89 minutes when a throw in found there striker whose weak shot was saved by Smith but spilled it and rolled into the net a rare mistake from the goalkeeper. The drama wasn’t finished though as Oddfellows broke deep into stoppage time and a cross found Shaun King who's header was tipped onto the bar by Donaldson and after a big goalmouth scramble Aquatic finally cleared and brought the end of 90minutes.

The first half of extra time brought no worthwhile attempts by either side. The second half kicked off and with both teams looking tired the game become very open and Oddfellows created 3 chances the first Paul Simon found himself free 8 yrds out but his shot was brilliantly saved again by Donaldson then again Paul Simon and Chris Rowntree brought saves out of the Aquatic keeper. Aquatic incredibly should’ve won the game in the 120th minute when a cross found there stiker totally free 8 yards out but to Oddfellows relief he dragged his shot wide and take the game into a penalty shootout. The penalty shootout saw Oddfellows hold their nerve as they went through 4-1.

Kyle Donaldson starred for Aquatic as did Mark Whitfield for Oddfellows.

Seaham Harkers Bar needed extra time as they eventually won 6-3 to see off the brave challenge of Gleneagles. Star of the show was Matthew Mustard who rifled in a fine hattrick for Harkers Bar and further goals came from Michael Wilson, Marc Rudduck and Darren Rudduck.

West End Potters put aside their wretched league form to storm through after a workmanlike 4-2 win at Times Inn at Thompson Park.

Wearside Wildcats were made to work hard for their 4-2 at home to Hollycarrside to make it through to the quarter finals in only their first season in the league. Star man Paul Stokoe and Dylan Oxberry struck in vain for Hollycarrside, but the goals from Aaron Dugan, Thomas Foster, John Morris and Michael Leadbitter saw the University based side through.

Hall Farm Blakeneys also won through after they came out on top winning 3-2 in their local derby at Silksworth Golden Fleece.

It was no surprise when Farm took the lead as full back Michael Bowden lashed in from 20 yards after great work by man of the match Kyle Lax. The Fleece then proceeded to dominate for the rest of the half and only excellent defending stopped them from scoring.

The second half saw Farm extended their lead to 2-0 as Gary Adey scrambled home the ball after Lay saw his shot saved as he was set up by brilliant work from Cameron Marshall. The Fleece then pulled one back thanks to a header from Anthony Yates, but the Farm soon restored their 2 goal cushion as Gary Adey headed in his second goal after a fine cross from Grainger. The Fleece pulled a goal back 5 minutes from through star man Darren Davie who converted a penalty. Fleece then missed a glorious chance to equalise as did Tommy Charlton for Farm.

Wearside Athletic were pushed all the way as they relied on penalties to overcome Bluestone Construction after they game had ended 4-4 after extra time.

Bluestone scorers were Joe Taboun, Alex McDonald, Ian Douglas and Luke Clayton. Athletic replied through strikes from man of the match Adam McQuillan (2), David Hurrell and Brett Chapman.

Ian Bird starred for Bluestone.

PREMIER DIVISION

Hetton New Inn continued their good run of form as they won 3-1 at Three Horse Shoes.

The Shoes got off to a good start playing some neat and tidy football but they lacked that cutting edge in front of goal and Hetton took advantage of this by taking the lead against the run of play. The Shoes did equalise soon after as Gavin Foot scored a twice taken penalty after Jordyn Moore had been hacked down in the box. Despite The Shoes playing well it was their opponents who were more clinical in front of goal as they found the net twice more to steal the points.

Hylton CW and Hendon Grange shared the spoils in an entertaining 3-3 draw at The Billy Hardy Centre.

The game started at a frenetic pace as both side tried to get the upper hand and it was the visitors who took the lead as Steven Wright tucked the ball into the net after playing a quick 1-2 in the box. Hylton were straight on the offensive and they were soon level as Alan Golightly stabbed the ball home after a great run and cross from Ged Huntley. The second half saw both teams pile forward in search for goals and it was the Grange who regained the lead thanks to Steven Wright who scored his second goal of the game, Hylton though were not to be outdone and equalised immediately thanks to Dean Machin who swept the ball home after some good build up. The drama didn’t end there as Grange restored their lead as Adam Campbell thumped home a header but in the last seconds of the game Carl Price smashed home the equaliser to earn Hylton a well deserved point.

FIRST DIVISION

University of Sunderland B finally moved off the bottom of the table after a resounding 9-5 win at home to fellow strugglers Park View who replied with goals from star man Rob Russell, Ed Doyle, Ian Morris, Aidan Lowthian and Robert Briggs.

DURHAM MINOR CUP

Farringdon Dolphin left it to the last minute to progress to the next round after a hard fought 2-1 win at Hendon Grange.

The game started as expected with the Grange racing out the blocks flying into challenges and closing down the Dolphin players at a 100mph. The Dolphin kept their composure and should have took the lead when top goal scorer Andy Place was sent clear by strike partner Martin Hope, one on one with the keeper Place saw his tame shot easily saved. A number of late tackles and yellow cards was stifling the game, and was stop start for the most of the half as it ended goalless.

The second half saw Hendon Grange take the lead after 48 minutes, a free kick was floated into the box, Paul Thompson turned his marker with ease as blasted the ball past keeper Heath into the bottom corner. The Dolphin kept calm and composed and tried to play the ball on the ground, Andy Place once again found himself one on one with the keeper this time his right foot shot crashed against the bar, the constant waves of attacks finally delivered a goal as Danny Makin cut in from the right and curled a left foot shot into the top corner. The Dolphin should have took the lead 5 minutes later, Martin Hope went clear he centred for Place for his 3rd one on one and unfortunately this time he blazed over from 6 yards. The tie was looking as though it was heading into extra time, when The Dolphin were awarded a penalty, the ball fell to Andy Place in the box, his snap shot looked to have cannoned of the arm of a Grange player, the referee ignored the pleas but skipper Michael Noble nicked the ball and was adjudged to have been fouled by the referee, with 30 seconds left on the clock Andrew Place stepped up to take the kick(showing considerable bottle after missing 3 one on ones during the game), and showed why he is the clubs top goal scorer, finishing exquisitely into the roof of the net sending the keeper the wrong way. The referee blew within a minute to end the game.

Hendon FC also progressed as Jason Gargett stole the limelight in his sides 6-0 win at home to Howden le Wear Australian, further goals came from Steven Clark, James Dickinson and Gareth Hill.

Keith Lonsdale starred for Hendon FC.

Wearside Wildcats needed extra time to finally overcome Heighington with an 8-3 win. John Morris led the way with a cracking hattrick and further goals were plundered in by Dan Callaghan (2), Thomas Foster, Patrick Appleton and Ryan Doran.

The remaining 5 teams in the cup were all knocked out.

A hattrick from Shane Docherty and a strike from top scorer Matthew Mustard was all in vain as Seaham Harkers Bar lost a 9 goal thriller 4-5 against a strong Middlestone Moor Masons Arms.

Hylton CW had Dean Machin on target in their 3-1 defeat to Shildon Elm Road WMC.

Ged Huntley starred for Hylton CW.

Hollycarrside put up a brave fight before succumbing to a 3-5 defeat to Bowes FC.

Hall Farm Blakeneys exited the competition after slumping to a 1-2 defeat at Hartlepool Gillen Arms. Kyle Lax scored a consolation for Hall Farm, while Andrew Adey was their star man.

Hetton New Inn thumped Colonel Prior 9-0 thanks to goals from man of the match Craig Ellison (4), Damian Hope (2), Cole Davison, Anthony Ashman and John Quarmby.

Prior goalkeeper Adam McCann kept the score down with some excellent saves and was deservedly their man of the match.

Silksworth Golden Fleece came away with maximum points as they clawed their way to an exciting 4-3 win at West End Potters. Midfield dynamo Jamie Cole scored twice and further goals came from Kris Tyson and Clayton Avery.

Oddfellows won 2-1 in a close encounter with FC Chesters at Leyburn Grove.

Oddfellows nearly made a blistering start when they took kick off strung 6 passes together to find Shaun Bage but his effort flew just over. Oddfellows kept on top and were only denied by a brilliant double save to deny Shaun King and Paul Simon. Shaun King was again denied from 25 yards with the keeper saving well down to his right. The resulting corner was nearly put in direct from it by Rowntree but again found the Chesters keeper in inspired form. After 30 minutes Chesters started to get a foothold in the game and created a few good chances the first a free kick which was well saved by Smith the second was a right wing cross which found a unmarked Chesters player but his header hit Stevie Allan 3 yards out and trickled just wide. The third chance was another free kick which was hit left footed and looked like it was creeping in only to see Chris Smith make a terrific save to tip the ball over the bar then from the resulting corner another free header was cleared off the line by Shaun Bage. Oddfellows nearly grabbed the lead on the stroke of half time when good work from Rowntree found Murray but his effort was acrobaticly saved.

Oddfellows created the first chance of the half and it seen Chris Rowntree go clean through but the keeper stood up and closed him down well and saved Rowntrees shot. It was then Chesters turn to go clean through but there striker shot wide but was under heavy pressure by the chasing back visitors defence. On the hour mark Oddfellows finally took the lead when a great tackle from Mark Whitfield won back possession and he released Shaun Bage who tried to take it round the keeper but was fouled and the penalty was awarded which Chris Rowntree easily converted. Chesters though got an equaliser on 65mins when a swift counter attack found Anthony Clifton on the edge of the box who drilled low into the bottom corner. Oddfellows grabbed the lead again on 72 minutes when a Rowntree cross found Shaun King who controlled well then fired a shot back across goal into the top corner which left the keeper no chance. Oddfellows had a great chance to put the game to bed when Rowntree won another penalty but this time seen his spot kick well saved. Chesters pilled forward searching for the equaliser in the remaining minutes but Oddfellows defence held out strongly to claim the 3 points.

Aquatic Sports battled like Trojans in their 1-0 home win against Three Horse Shoes.

In a game which was totally spoilt by the wind but both sides did their best to make a game of it. Both teams were restricted to only half a dozen chances each and it was Aquatic who took theirs winning the game 1-0 with the scorer Dean Smith striking a left foot shot into the corner of the net to give Aquatic the victory. Star man for Aquatic was Niall Quinn, as was Paul Cromack for The Shoes.

FIRST DIVISION

Bluestone Construction cruised to a 6-2 win against Times Inn.

From the kick off Bluestone immediately took control of the game with good possession and the first half was played mainly in the Times Inn half. After 15 minutes a good ball down the left side saw Richie Bland cross the ball for a far post header by Craig Donkin to power past the keeper. It was soon 2-0 as Joe Taboun scored after a mazy run. A penalty was scored by Alex Mcdonald as Bland rounded the keeper only to be chopped down and just before half time an Ian Bird close range header made it a convincing 4-0 half time lead to Bluestone. Manager Paul Vaudrey had little to say or change at half time but to keep the shape and keep composed.

Second half started similar to the first as Bird got his second with a good finish after Taboun had beat his man on the left wing and put in a delicious cross and Howe capitalised on a free kick just on the left side of the box to make it 6! Times Inn got a couple of consolation goals through Scott Seldon and Mark Bewick as Bluestone relaxed. The second being a very controversial decision as all the ground bar the referee didn't think the ball had crossed the line.

Star man for Times Inn was Jamie Hounslow.

Gleneagles won 3-2 thanks to goals from Carl Hodgson (2) and Ethan Lee in an exciting encounter with Park View. The View replied through Ron Baker and their star man was Edward Doyle.

FC Whitburn took all three points with a fine 2-1 win at Shiney Row Wheatsheaf who replied through Brett Rowntree.

Wearside Athletic kept up their fine run of form with a 2-1 win against Victoria Gardens. Brett Chapman scored both goals for Athletic as Victoria Gardens hit a reply through Mark Wasey.

Ryan Lawson starred for Victoria Gardens as did David Wilkinson for Athletic.

Aquatic Sports produced a stunning fightback to come from two goals down to eventually win 3-2 at home to Silksworth Golden Fleece. Goals from Clasyton Avery and Kris Tyson had the Fleece 2-0 up but David Hoeys side rolled their sleeves up and won the game thanks to goals from Craig Wilson, Dan Hardy and man of the match Niall Quinn.

Star man for Fleece was Richard Clark.

Hendon FC strolled to a 12-0 win against hapless Colonel Prior at Stannington Grove. Hendon took the lead after only ten seconds thanks to Gareth Hill. This was the start of a glut of goals thanks to hattricks from Liam Robson and Jason Gargett, further fgoals came from Steve McAneney, Steven Clark (2), Keith Lonsdale and Robert 'The Tinman' McManus.

Hendon Grange battled to a 3-2 win against Three Horse Shoes who replied thanks to goals from Gavin Foot and Anthony Stokell and their best performer was Shaun McGregor.

Hylton CW won 2-0 at West End Potters.

Farringdon Dolphin have a huge lead at the top of the table thanks to another win, this time a 5-1 success against FC Chesters.

Nicholson (Silky cricket clubs no1 wicketkeeper apparently) hasnt put a set of gloves on in his life and after 30secs a long throw was flicked on and Kevin Cowley was on hand to fire home his first for his club and left Farras management team thinking Nicholson in goal could have been a bad decision. Thats as good as it got for Chesters as for the rest of the half were pinned in as chance after chance went begging fore Farra. "Ghandi" Hope burst down the byline twice in quick succesion and crossed for Andy Place who both times from a yard out blazed over with his 58deg lob wedge boots on with the keeper beaten. Farra did get level on 25mins when Makin's slide rule pass found Hope thru 1-on-1 and he made no mistake to bury into the bottom corner. Ghandi, this time turned provider within minutes when he burst down the wing and crossed for Placey to this time ram home. It was all Farra and the crucial 3rd goal came on 38mins with a free flkowing move when Stephenson's cross field ball into the channel found Hope who beat the full back and crossed for strike partner Place to crash in off the underside of the bar. "Ghandi" was getting joy down the right and again broke the offside trap and crossed for Place to fire home for his hat-trick only for the ref to blow and Place was adjudged offside even thou Hope was yards from the byline when crossing. 3-1HT. The 2nd half starting at a slow pace and it wasnt 4-1 until 62mins when Makin got to the byline and crossed for Martin Hope to bullet a header home. Both Place & Hope had chances to grab there hat-tricks but passed them up and Farra had to wait for the final goal to arrive on full-time, but it was worth the wait, Sub Farren Pope recieved the ball from Makin some 30yrds out, and took one touch and boom, top corner for Pope, brilliant strike and the game ended 5-1. Morris & Clifton starred for there respective clubs.

Oddfellows ran out 2-0 winners against Hetton New Inn in what was a tight encounter.

Oddfellows went into there last league game of 2011 and took on a Hetton New Inn side who completly outplayed a Oddfellows team in a 3-0 win back in October. Oddfellows went into todays game at Thompson Park looking to gain a bit of revenge. The game kicked off and it was Hetton who created the first chance on 7 minutes when a mistake from Livingston seen the ball fall to a Hetton midfielder who fired just over. Hetton then created another chance just after when there striker hit a shot which took 2 deflections forced Chris Smith into a good save before Stevie Allan cleared off the goaline. Oddfellows though did grab the breakthrough on 20 minutes when Stevie Allan sent the pacey Andy Middleton clean through on goal and he kept his composure to slot underneath the on rushing goalkeeper to give the home side the lead. 1-0. Oddfellows grew in confidence and were starting to pass the ball round and that led to Chris Rowntree forcing there keeper into a smart save at his near post. Hetton had 2 chances to find an equaliser but seen a 20yrd free kick blazed over and a looping header going just wide from a corner. Oddfellows though should of grabbed a second on halt time when a Stevie Allan cross found Chris Rowntree completly unmarked but just never got enough on his header and it went just wide.

Hetton started the brightest in the second half with a very ambitious 40yrd free kick which was struck superbly and brought a good save out of Smith. Again though Hetton tried 2 more long range efforts what were hit perfectly but again Smith was up to the task and saved them both. Oddfellows started to get a foothold in the game and created 3 gilt edge chances the 1st a cross from Middleton found Rowntree who failed to score into the empty net but to be fair the ball was at a awkward height the 2nd was a poor clearence from Hettons goalkeeper and seen the ball fall to Middleton who blazed over when he should of fed the unmarked Rowntree and the 3rd seen Rowntree go through 1-1 but Hetton keeper made a great save as Rowntree tried to take it round him. Hetton started to pile forward in the latter stages of the game and missed 2 great chances for an equaliser and maybe even swing the game in there favour the 1st chance seen there stiker free on the edge of the box but he slioced wide and the second was a cross from the right found there striker totally unmarked 6yrds out but headed just wide to the total relief of the full Oddfellows team. Oddfellows finally put the game to bed on 80 minutes when Middleton went through 1-1 but his shot was well saved but the ball fell to Gareth Murray who fired into the top corner from a tight angle. 2-0. Murray nearly grabbed another goal for himself but this time the underside of the crossbar saved Hetton on this occasion. The full time whistle went and a excellent performance over a strong Hetton side brought Oddfellows a throughly deserved 3 points what lifts them above Hetton in the league.

FIRST DIVISION

Gleneagles produced an excellent performance to outgun Seaham Harkers Bar 3-2 in an enthralling contest. Terry Clinton (2) and Alan Surtees did the damage for the Eagles, whilst the prolific Matthew Mustard and Marc Ruddick replied for Harkers Bar.

David Robinson starred for Gleneagles as did Thomas Hobkirk for Harkers Bar.

Shiney Row Wheatsheaf won 4-1 at home to in form Hollycarrside thanks to goals from man of the match Brett Edwards (2), Adam Rowntree and Alec Chapman. Star man Paul Stokoe replied for Hollycarrside.

A depleted Bluestone Construction battled to a deserved point in a 0-0 draw against Victoria Gardens. Alex McDonald starred for Bluestone.

Gary McIlduff and Michael Hartley were on target for East Durham Spartans in their 6-2 defeat against FC Whitburn. Daniel Wright starred for Spartans.

In form wearside athletic started today's game with top striker john hope-hindmarsh back in the starting line up with craig lamb out injured. The game started off scrappy for the first 5 minutes with both teams struggling to get hold of the ball, but the first chance fell to the home team with adam mcquillan bursting away from the park view defence only to see his shot well saved from peter briggs. The first goal did come on 10 minutes and it was the home side who scored from in form brett chapman smashing the ball home from 6 yards 1-0. That goal got wearside athletic going and could have had a couple more goals from adam mcquillan and john hope-hindmarsh but for some good goal keeping again from park views peter briggs. With the home team now on top and controlling the game the second goal did come and it was that man john hope-hindmarsh he turned his marker and smashed the ball home from 8 yards 2-0. Park view were trying to play the long ball but the home defence was easily dealing with it and when the ball did get through the home keeper andrew forbes dealt well with the threat. On 35 minutes the home team got there third of the game from brett chapman his second of the game he beat two defenders on the edge of the box and curled his shot into the bottom corner giving the park view keeper no chance 3-0. John hope-hindmarsh should have had his second of the game he was played through and with only the keeper to beat his lob attempt went wide of the park view goal.

Second half started off with park view putting pressure on the home defence with there long ball aproach and there striker twice getting through on goal but for some brilliant last minute defending from david wilkinson shutting out the threat. Wearside athletic struggled for the first 10minutes of the second half as they couldnt get hold of the ball and play there football what they did in the first half. On 60 minutes the home side got there fourth of the game through a quick counter attack after park view lost the ball it was cleared up field to adam mcquillan to sprint away leaving two defenders for dead and playing a inch perfect ball over to john hope-hindmarsh to cooly slot the ball under the keeper 4-0. That goal gave the home team a lift and they started to controll the game and play there slick football again, and on 65 minutes it was 5 for the home team it was brett chapman getting his hatrick after the ball was crossed into the box he out jumped the park view defender to power his header into the top right giving the keeper no chance 5-0. The home team were now well in controll of the game and after wearside athletic midfilder stephen shepherd won a 50/50 challenge he played a lovley 30 yard ball up to adam mcquillan who beat two defenders cutting in from the left he smashed a shot towards goal which took a deflection of a park view player and going into the bottom corner 6-0. With only 5 minutes left on the clock park view thort they had a goal as there striker raced towards goal wearside athletic defender david wilkinson got his challenge in only to see it heading into the bottom corner but for the home keeper getting his finger tips to it and tipping it on to the post and cleared away. Wearside athletic got a seventh of the game and what a goal it was some lovley football from the home team cutting the park view midfield into pieces with there slick passing, and with the ball being played out to luke taylor from 25 yards he smashed a unstoppable shot through the crowded box and into the bottom right corner 7-0.

MATCH REPORT FOR SATURDAY 26^TH NOVEMBER 2011

DURHAM MINOR CUP

Wearside Wildcats needed extra time to see off the challenge of West End Potters, the star of the show was Ashley Preece hit scored an astonishing six goals, further goals for Wildcats came from Thomas Foster and John Morris. The Potters replied through strikes from Warren Cassap (2) and Kurt Jenkins.

Hendon FC eased to a 6-1 win at Gleneagles courtesy of goals from man of the match Gareth Hill (2), Martin Jackson, Steven Clark, Robert McManus and Kevin Morton.

Hollycarrside romped to a 12-0 win at Gateshead Rutherford Reserves thanks to goals from star man Paul Elliott (4), Brian Bell (3), Anthony Powell, Kyle Hourigan (2), Luke Bell and Corey Bell.

Matthew Mustard is on a hot streak as he fired in yet another hattrick for Seaham Harkers Bar in their 4-0 win against Hartlepool Headland. Marc Ruddick fired in the other Harkers goal.

Hendon Grange progressed 5-4 on penalties against Seaton Carew SFC after the game had ended in a 2-2 draw. Brad Davis hit the winning penalty for Grange.

Last seasons beaten finalists Hylton CW surged through to the next round after a 3-0 win at home to a very slick Hartlepool Seaton side. Hylton tried very hard to break them down but a slick move by Stokoe and Golighty earnedthe home side a corner which paid off with Dean "the machine" Machin tapping in from 2 yards. That got the home side going and they scored a second 4 minutes later with a Jordon Cook 25 yard thunder bolt in the top corner. The second half was all Hylton but they squandered chance after chance in search of that killer third goal. Then right at the death Alan Golightly put the game safe for Hylton with a clinical third goal. Dean Machin starred for Hylton CW.

Farringdon Dolphin won through to the next round after a 4-1 success at Crook Town Wanderers.

The Dolphin were struggling to play there fluent passing game on a pitch that could only be described as a plough field and were pumping long balls which were easily dealt with at the back for Crook until the opener came on 30 minutes when a Redman free-kick was acrobatically overhead kicked into the roof of the net "Adebayor" style by Dan Makin to putDolphin 1-0 up. Makin turned provider just before half-time when he burst to the by line and crossed for Michael Noble to slam home. The game that should have been dead and buried came to life on the hour mark when Adams failed to deal with a long punt and in turn cleared to Dean Comby who flashed a 35 yarder past Jackson who was left exposed by the poor defending. The Dolphin then got into 2nd gear from the off and the game was put to bed moments later when man of the match Andy Morris crossed for Andy Place to coolly slot home. It was 4-1 on 75 minutes when Makin grabbed his deserved 2nd when Placeset him up on the edge of the area and he rifled through a crowded penalty area.

Hall Farm Blakeneys also won on their travels running out 2-1 winners at West Auckland Prince of Wales.

The game was played in atrocious conditions and the Farm fell behind after only two minutes and were lucky not to be four or five nil down by half time as the hosts pressed and pressed and were denied by the woodwork on several occasions. The Farm were given a right roasting at half time and they bucked their ideas up and it was Andrew Adey who started to stamp his authority on the game and it was his cross that was tapped into the net by the prolific Dean Smith. Cameron Marshall then made is long awaited return from a serious injury and this seemed to give Farm a lift and with minutes to go they got the winner as Dean Smith cut in from the left to fire in an unstoppable shot to send the travelling supporters wild with delight.

Holders Redhouse FC exited the competition with a 5-1 home defeat to Hartlepool Rovers.

Jonathon Atkinson was on target for Aquatic Sports in their 6-1 loss to Whickham Lang Jacks.

Oddfellows won 3-1 at home to Silksworth Golden Fleece who are going through a barren spell at the moment.

Oddfellows started the brightest and took an early lead on 10 minutes when Tommy Carline floated a free kick in from the half way line only to see the Fleece defender get his head to the ball and unfortunately see the ball loop over his own keeper and into the top corner. Oddfellows kept on top and grabbed a quick second on 14 minutes when a long ball was flicked on by Paul Simon who found Chirs Rowntree 20 yards out and he hit a superb half volley what flew over the keeper into the roof of the net. Oddfellows nearly grabbed a third when great work from Rowntree and Paul Simon found Gareth Murray who curled a great right footed effort which cannoned back off the cross bar. The Fleece were struggling to make any clear cut chances and never really forced Joe Thompson into a meaningful save and with impressive centre halves Redman and Carline heading any dangerous crosses away to safety Oddfellows were looking very comfortable. Oddfellows nearly went further ahead on the stroke of half time when when a Shaun King header brought a smart save from the Fleece's goalkeeper.

Oddfellows were kicking against the strong wind so they knew it would be a tough second half and they grabbed a crucial third within 10 minutes of the restart when a Stevie Allan cross found Shaun King but his looping header looked like it was going to be claimed by the keeper but Paul Simon got there in front of him and with the keeper in no mans land he easily headed over him and seen the ball trickle into the corner. Oddfellows were playing the much better football and created another great chance when a good run and shot by Gareth Murray forced the keeper into a good save and when Paul Simon was just about to put the ball into the empty net he was clearly pushed in the back but to the amazement of both teams the referee pointed for a goal kick. Oddfellows though kept going and the excellent Stevie Allan rode 2 tackles before delivering a superb cross which found Andy Phillips who's right foot volley was a whisker away from finding the top right hand corner. Fleece did finally get a goal on 80 minutes when a long range effort took a big deflection off Davey Redmans backside which forced Joe Thompson into an excellent save but could only watch as the ball trickled along the line hitting the inside of the post before a Fleece midfielder put it into the net. The Fleece started to pile forward and created a flurry of corner kicks but Oddfellows stood strong and with stood this late prssure and nearly grabbed a fourth on the counter when a Mark Whitfield drive flew just wide.

Gareth Murray starred for Oddfellows as did Shaun Wilkie for Golden Fleece.

Jordyn Moore was on target for Three Horse Shoes in their 3-1 defeat to Hetton New Inn.

FIRST DIVISION

Wearside Athletic coasted to a 6-0 win at home to FC Whitburn.

Athletic started the game by keeping hold of the ball and keeping it on the ground playing some lovley football. With ten minutes into the game the hosts took the lead through Brett Chapman smashing home a volley from 6 yards. Five minutes later Athletic doubled their lead through top scorer John Hope-Hindmarsh prodding the ball home from 3 yards after some sloppy defending from the away. Halfway through the first half Athletic looked comfortable playing some nice football and some silky skills from Craig Lamb. On 35 minutes the home team got a third goal from Adam McQuillan after been sent through on goal he calmly slotted the ball past the keeper 3-0. FC Whitburn were starting to get frustrated has they could not get the ball off the home team and when they did have the ball they couldnt find a way through the home defence. On 40 minutes the home team got there well deserved fourth goal of the game from that man Hope-Hindmarsh who fired home after a great run and cross from Luke Taylor.

The second half started very sloppy with both teams trying to get hold of the ball in the windy conditions. 20 minutes into the second half the game started to come into life with Athletic starting to spray the ball around the pitch playing some lovely football again and having a few chances to get another goal but for the away keeper pulling good saves off from Lamb and Hope-Hindmarsh. 5 minutes later the home team got their goal through Brett Chapman scoring his second goal of the game after beating two defenders and smashing the ball home from 10 yards this time giving the keeper no chance. FC Whitburn thought they got a goal back on 65 minutes as they whipped in a corner and met by the head of a unmarked player the ball looked like flying into the top corner but for some excellent defending from David Wilkinson somehow managing to head the ball off the line. On 80 minutes Whitburn had another corner this time it was cleared from the home defence and the ball was played up to McQuillan who raced away leaving three defenders standing but his shot was well saved from the keeper only to fall to the feet of the Lee Marsh who raced the full length of the pitch to prod home from 2 yards out.

University of Sunderland had Jordan Birnie on target twice in their 3-2 win at Park View, the third goal came from Nicholas Smith. The View replied through Dominic Murphy and Ron Baker.

Keith Robinson starred for the students as did Gary Todd for the View.

Shiney Row Wheatsheaf won 2-1 at Times Inn thanks to strikes from Craig Powell and Nigel Cuthbertson, their star performer was James Parish. Times Inn hit back with a goal from Mark Bewick, Scott Seldon shone for them.

Terence Bentley and Lee Wood were on target in East Durham Spartans 4-2 defeat at Victoria Gardens.

Andrew Brown starred for Spartans.

Bluestone Construction and University of Sunderland B fought out a drab 1-1 draw. Bluestone almost took the lead but Brent McKenna saw his sweet left shot cannon back off the post. Ian Bird left fly with a shot which the keeper flapped at then it nestled in the net. The B-team equalised late in the second half.

MATCH REPORT FOR SATURDAY 12TH NOVEMBER 2011
PREMIER DIVISION
Colonel Prior defied their league position as they won 3-2 at FC Chesters in what was a cracking game.
Prior started brightly and put the home team on the back foot from the off and within 5 minutes were 1-0 to the good. A blatant off side wide left saw winger Jamie Fletcher cut in one on one to fire low past Chesters keeper for the lead. It was soon 2-0 as a corner kick not defended well saw Andrew Tatters free in the box for a simple finish across the goal. Tatters made it 3-0 before half time once again a free header straight down the middle of the goal, well deserved lead for prior from a poor display from Chesters.
Stern words at half time and a knee jerk sub saw Gareth Mence enter the fray with ex prior player Jefferson making way. Chesters stared a lot better thanks to the endeavour of Anthony Clifton chasing every lost cause and with Alsop and Mence getting at the back four, Clifton was rewarded with his goal. His shot being well saved by Adam McCann but the shot was too strong to stop it going through his hands and trickled over the line for 3-1. Mence made it 3-2 and game on with half an hour to go after a spill in the box saw the goal sniffer have a simple tap inn. Stephen Murphy had the chance to level the game after Cliftons close range shot was hand balled on the line only for the rebound to be shot straight in the net in between the ref blowing for the pen befoer the goal went in. So after Murphy hit a hattrick of pens aginst them at the start of the season hopes were high for another to go in. The resulting spot kick was saved well and the rebound afterwards was shot straight back at him. Smith in the Chesters goal made more vital saves to keep the visitors out but it was the final 5 minutes or so where Adam McCann earned his corn pulling off some top draw saves notably one point blank effort from Clifton just throwing his body at it which definetely saved the day for the Prior.

Farringdon Dolphin extended their lead at the top after coming out 6-5 winners in an enthralling contest at Hendon FC.
Hendon got off to a flying start when Hill found space and turned and James Dickinson in the channel who ran on and beat Jackson into the far post in only the first minute.Dolphin instantly responded on 5 minutes when Jackson's long punt when straight through to leading scorer Andy Place to round the keeper and slot home. It was 2-1 to Hendon 5 minutes later when Swindle hauled down Dickinson in the box, up stepped Kevin Morton to crash it off the bar and prod in the rebound of which Jackson tipped in. Dolphin should have equalised 2 minutes later when Place hit the bar from 2 yards out from a Stephenson cross. They finally equalised on 20 minutes when another Jackson punt caught Hendons back 4 cold and Marc Stephenson went on to lob the keeper. Dolphin missed a host of chances before grabbing a richly deserved lead when Micky Nicholson's cross was dropped by Donnelly and Andy Place was on hand to prod home.
Dolphin obviously didn’t listen to the team talk as it was 3-3 almost immediately after the restart when Scott Kelly hooked home from a corner. Hendon had their tails up and Dickinson put them 4-3 up on 55 mins as the visitors were imploding at the back. Dolphin made some needed substitutions and instantly hauled off Nicholson and Noble and replaced them with Spence and Morris and the double substitution instantly paid dividends when the lightening quick Spence drove into the box and was brought down by Innes. Up stepped Place to grab his hat-trick and sent Donnelly the wrong way. End to end by this time and Dolphin went ahead when Andy Morris drove from midfield and released Place through the middle and he finished comfortably past the keeper. Gareth Hill grabbed the equaliser for Hendon on 68 minutes when a defensive mistake sent him clear and he finished brilliantly past Jackson. Still time for more and the winner came on 70 minutes when Marc Stephenson broke down the left and his cross flew into the top corner. This game still had more twists and turns to come when Micky Woodward was dismissed and this gave Hendon a lifeline with 15 minutes to go but Dolphin hung on even with Hendon hitting the bar late on, for a hard fought but deserved 3 pts.
Hetton New Inn recorded a fine 2-1 win against Redhouse who replied through a strike from Stephen Coyne. New Inn won the game thanks to a Dan Burnside brace.
Anthony Ashman starred for Hetton as did Stephen Anderson for Redhouse.

Hylton CW won 6-1 at Silksworth Golden Fleece thanks to strikes from Dean Machin (2), Lee Cresswell (2), Jordan Cook and man of the match Alan Golightly. Fleece replied through Kris Tyson, their star man was Andrew Baxter.

Three Horse Shoes bounced back with an emphatic 8-3 win at home to Aquatic Sports.
With a new team layout the Shoes got there first victory in league for a while much to the delight of the players and supporters there was a hattrick for Carl Chapman a brace for star man Nathan Robinson and goals from the mighty Jack Quinn, Michael Bulmer and a stunner from Shaun McGregor as the ball was cleared from the goalmouth he volleyed it back towards goal and it bounced in front of the goalkeeper and went in over the goalies head into the net. Goals for Aquatic came from Dean Smith, Jonathon Atkinson and Craig Wilson and their star man was Mark Dickinson.
Hall Farm Blakeneys shared the points as they fought to a 3-3 draw against free scoring Hendon Grange.
Farm took the lead on 6 minutes as Andrew Bowes scored direct from a corner. Grange then won a penalty but Lee Smith pulled off a fantastic save to keep his side in front and spurred Farm on as they extended their lead as Dean Smith pounced on a poor clearance and he drove in from the edge of the box. Charlton then missed a sitter to further extend the lead and this let Grange back into the game as they scored just before half time with a headed goal which the opposition thought was offside.
Grange came out for the second half all fired up and equalised on 50 minutes from the penalty spot after Todd was adjudged to have fouled in the box. Bowes then fired in a 25 yard free kick that hit the underside of the bar but Dorian was not quick enough to put the ball into the net but minutes later the Farm took the lead again as Andrew Bowes thumped in a 20 yarder via the post. The game and points looked safe but Grange are made of sterner these days and they grabbed a deserved equaler in the final seconds much to the dismay of the Farm who saw victory snatched away from them.
FIRST DIVISION
Wearside Wildcats kept their unbeaten league run intact but only just as they won 5-4 against Wearside Athletic.
Aaron Dugan opened the scoring for the Wildcats early on with John Hope-Hindmarsh levelling not long after. Wildcats were cruising after Dan Callaghan and Michael Leadbitter put them 3-1 up. But Wearside Althetic worked hard and got themselves back into it just before the half time whistle with a great strike from Hope-Hindmarsh.

Wearside Athletic started the second half the brighter of the two teams and took the lead with a third from Hope-Hindmarsh and Adam McQuillan. The game looked destined to finish 3-4 with 5 minutes left until Aminu fired an effort in from 40 yards that flew past the Athletic keeper. Then with only 1 minute left James Tully chipped the ball into the back of the net ending the game 5-4.

University of Sunderland heaped more misery on AC Sunderland with a resounding 8-1 win thanks to goals from Dan Wilson (3), Jordan Birnie (2), Alex Netolichi (2) and star man Gordon Wallis.
Seaham Harkers Bar proved to be too hot for FC Whitburn as Matthew Mustard helped himself to a hattrick and further goals came from Darren and Marc Rudduck, Dan Black and Thomas Hobkirk.
Park View had Robert Russell on target in their 1-1 draw with Shiney Row Wheatsheaf who equalised through Adam Rowntree.
David Brown starred for View as did Ian Forsyth for Wheatsheaf.
Gleneagles won 3-1 at home to Victoria Gardens.
Victoria Gardens took the lead as Tony 'Trophy' Breen charged out of his goal into no mans land to allow there player a simple tap in, after Tony 'The Pony' Hammond limped off with a groin injury and was replaced by Craig 'Womble' Collins who was influential in turning the game around and immediately had the opposition on the back foot constantly with his dribbling and surging runs. Collins got himself on the score sheet as well as Ethan Lee and Ryan ‘Rambo’ Gordon who somehow managed a goal with his head. Unfortunately the sending off of Kyle Gibson marred a otherwise well contested contest.
TWR COMMERCIAL LEAGUE CHALLENGE CUP
West End Potters advanced to the next round as they were pushed all the way in their 2-1 win at Hollycarrside. Bryan Norton and star man Brad Freeman scored for Potters. Hollycarrside replied with a goal from Paul Tyson.
Brian Bell starred for Hollycarrside.
Times Inn won 2-1 at home to East Durham Spartans thanks to goals from Mark Bewick who scored twice and their star performer was Neil McNulty.

Oddfellows advanced to the next round as they overcame brave resistance from Bluestone Construction to win 2-0.
Oddfellows started the brightest and created the first chance after 40 seconds when Shaun King shot straight at the keeper. On 7 minutes a poor clearance by Blue Stones goalkeeper fell straight to Shaun Bage but his effort went straight back into the goalkeepers arms. Bluestone created their first chance when a long throw was glanced on and just went wide of Chris Smiths goal. Oddfellows were enjoying a lot of possession and had Bluestone pinned back in there half but just couldn’t break down a stubborn defence and restricted Oddfellows to long range efforts. Oddfellows did finally take the lead when they won a free kick on the right hand side and Chris Rowntree mishit the free kick but to his delight see the ball loop over the goalkeeper and into the top corner and for the first time in a long time Oddfellows have a bit luck. Bluestone were struggling to get out of there half but were still keeping Oddfellows at bay. Oddfellows should of went 2 up when Shaun King ran the full length of the field to the Bluestone box but was well tackled only to see the ball fall to Andy Smith whose powerful shot was expertly saved to deny Smith a certain goal. Bluestone nearly grabbed an equaliser on the stroke of halftime when a slip from left back Aaron Donkin let in there right winger who crossed across the face of goal only to see Paul Simon make a last ditch tackle to stop the Bluestone striker from tapping in.
Both sides started the half slowly with both teams cancelling each other out. On 55 minutes Chris Rowntree tried an ambitious overhead kick what took a slight deflection and seen the ball bounce on top of the crossbar. Andy Smith then was unlucky not to make it 2 when he went 1-1 but his scuffed effort was kept out by a combination of goalkeeper and a puddle of mud which allowed a Bluestone defender to clear. Oddfellows welcomed back Davey Redman who come on as sub after a long spell on the sidelines through suspension and nearly made himself an instant hero when a corner from Stevie Allan found Redman free in the six yard box but he headed straight at the keeper. Chris Rowntree was the next to test their goalkeeper when his drive from 20 yards was tipped round the post. Bluestone went down to ten men when a there centre half went off injured and they had no subs left but they still kept plugging away. Oddfellows did finally put the game to bed on 80 minutes when right back Stevie Allan ran 60yrds unchallenged and his cross found Chris Rowntree who beat his marker and fire a brilliant shot into the bottom corner what left the goalkeeper with no chance. Chris Rowntree nearly grabbed his hattrick when his free kick from 25yrds was superbly saved.

ALAN HOOD MEMORIAL TROPHY

Farringdon Dolphin headed into their game with Victoria Gardens without management duo Paul Frame and Craig Parkinson due to work commitments so the huge job of picking the team was left to stalwarts Heath, Johnson and Adams who in turn rotated the team much to the surprise of everyone. The changes seemed to work as the temporary hierarchy masterminded an emphatic 14-2 victory.

The Dolphin had Andrew Place in sizzling form as he rattled in an amazing double hattrick, further strikes came from Michael Noble (2), Dan Makin (2), Brett Gillatt, Dale Spence, Ian Redman and man of the match Michael Woodward. Victoria Gardens never gave up and were rewarded with two consolation goals from Chris Usher, their star man was Adam Duffy.

Hylton CW beat a severely depleted Gleneagles 4-0 at the Billy Hardy Centre thanks to a one man super show from Dean Machin who scored all four of his sides goals.

Hetton New Inn had Ben Riding on target twice as they dumped out first division leaders University of Sunderland with a 2-0 win.

Damian Hope and Jonathon Howard were the respective star performers.

Hendon FC were pushed all the way as they finally saw off the brave challenge of Wearside Wildcats with a 5-4 win at Stannington Grove.

Hendon went one nil up after 5 minutes through top scorer James Dickinson and an onslaught looked to be on the cards but Wildcats had other ideas as they started to play some impressive football and scored twice to go ahead going into the half time interval. Hendon came back out after a rollicking and were soon on level terms as Steve Clark scored with a beauty of a volley. Hendon then scored twice more through Dickinson and Gareth Hill and McAnenys men were looking rather comfortable. Wildcats came right back into it as they won a penalty but keeper Donnelly redeemed himself by superbly saving the spot kick but the visitors did pull a third goal back to set up a tense finale. James Dickinson looked to have secured the win as he scored again to complete his hattrick but Wildcats scored a fourth and were denied extra time by some great defending.

PREMIER DIVISION

Oddfellows were inspired by Andy Smith as they romped to a 6-1 win at Silksworth Golden Fleece.

Oddfellows started the brightest and created the first chance after 5 minutes when a Paul Simon free-kick found Andy Smith who headed just over the bar. Oddfellows were putting the pressure on but fell behind on 7 minutes when Kris Tyson right wing cross caused a mass scramble in the box and was finally stabbed home by Shaun Wilkie. Oddfellows though weren’t behind for long and on 13 minutes a Stevie Allan corner was flicked in by Paul Simon at the front post for a deserved equaliser. Golden Fleece though come back at Oddfellows and again a right wing cross caused another mad goalmouth scramble and somehow the visitors cleared the ball off the line 3 times then the post saved them before the ball fell to the edge of the box and Kris Tyson unleashed a powerful strike only to see the ball smash off Michael Livingston face on the line and roll to safety. After that let off Oddfellows should of took the lead on 20 minutes when an Allan corner found Livingston 6 yards out but somehow he flashed his header just wide. Oddfellows though did take the lead when great passing from Bage, Murray and Allan found Andy Smith who crossed to Rowntree who volleyed home from 12 yards out. The Fleece though come searching for an equaliser and there left winger come close with an effort what went just wide and there striker nearly scored with a deflected effort. The visitors stretched their lead though when a mix-up with the Fleece's goalkeeper and centre half saw the ball fall to Shaun King who turned his marker inside out and coolly slot into the bottom corner. Oddfellows should of had a fourth just before half time when a Allan cross found Rowntree unmarked 4 yards out but somehow steered his header wide.

Oddfellows come out the second half the better side and created a great chance straight away when Andy Smith went clean through but his lob just went over the bar then Smith set up Whitfield who forced a good save from Fleece's goalkeeper with his shot. The visitors though did get a fourth goal when good work down the left from Rowntree and King found Andy Smith who swivelled past his marker and superbly curled into the bottom corner. On 50 minutes it was 5-1when Shaun Bage won the ball in the centre of the park who found the impressive Rowntree who then slid Andy Smith in and he easily scored past the on-rushing goalkeeper. The Fleece were struggling to makewell marshalled defence. The game was then over as a contest when a sixth goal was scored when again good work from Rowntree and Bage found Andy Smith who then deceived his marker with a great Cruyff turn and finished coolly past the goalkeeper to complete a second half hattrick from him.

Hendon Grange are hot on the heels of the leaders as they sauntered to a 6-0 home win against FC Chesters at Ryhope Rec. Adam Campbell kept up his scoring form by bagging 2 goals and further strikes from Gavin Ackroyd, Glyn Lamb, Paul Thompson and man of the match Anthony Rathbone secured a deserved win.

Goalkeeper Craig Smith starred for Chesters as he kept the score down with some excellent saves.

Redhouse worked their socks off as they recorded a 6-2 win at luckless Colonel Prior.

The Prior were given an uphill task after young keeper Adam McCann was given a red card and midfielder Andrew Tatters had to don the keepers jersey. This lifted Redhouse as they poured forward in numbers and it was goals from Liam Wooton (3), Steve Anderson and a double from John Dixon saw the visitors climb the table. Redhouse star man was Thomas Bell.

The Prior replied with goals from David Hughes and star man Ian Canavan.

Aquatic Sports gained a much needed three points as they grinded out a 2-1 win at home to West End Potters.

Aquatic scorers were Dan Hardy with a header that went under the keeper to make it 1-0 just before halftime. The second half got underway and The Potters put the pressure on Aquatic and they made it 1-1 with a cool finish from their forward, then 5mins later The Potters were awarded a penalty for handball but Aquatic keeper Josh Atkinson made a great save. Aquatic then had a corner and the ball fell to Dean Smith whose strike went in to put Aquatic 2-1 ahead. The last 15 minutes The Potters piled the pressure on and could have won the game with two good chances but Aquatic held on for the three points.

Hall Farm Blakeneys produced a workmanlike performance as they battled to a 4-3 win at Three Horse Shoes.

The Farm were fast out of the blocks as they raced into an early lead as Thomas Charlton latched onto a great pass from Dean Smith to finish with aplomb. Farm should have extended their lead but Dean Smith was guilty of 3 glaring misses and this let THS back into the game as they equalised with a shot that squirmed in at the front post. The latter were well on top and only great defending from the Farm back four kept the scores level at half time.

The Farm started the better side probing away and it was no surprise when they took the lead as a smart Lax pass sent Dean Smith through on goal and he executed a perfect lob over the stranded keeper. Farm were then delirious moments later as they extended their lead as Charlton fired in his second of the game after great work by the Smiths. Bad habits started to creep back into Farms play and lo and behold they conceded two soft goals in a minute as THS hauled themselves level. The home side now sensed victory but Farm rolled their sleeves up and grabbed a deserved equaliser as Richard Timm thumped in a header from a great Southern free kick.

The Horse Shoes scorers were man of the match Shaun McGregor (2) and Carl Chapman.

FIRST DIVISION

Wearside Athletic were in a ruthless mood as they recorded a 12-0 win at basement side AC Sunderland. Three players weighed in with hattricks and they were top scorer John Hope-Hindmarsh, Craig Lamb and Brett Chapman. Other goals came from Ben Jasper, Scott Critchlow and James Butler.

Michael Atkinson starred for AC Sunderland.

East Durham Spartans won 3-1 against Park View thanks to goals from Michael Hartley (2) and Mark Daley. The View replied through Troy Baker.

Jared Jones was Spartans man of the match as was Steve Knox for Park View.

Man of the match Ian Bird scored a consolation goal for Bluestone Construction in their 2-1 defeat at Shiney Row Wheatsheaf.

DURHAM MINOR CUP

Hollycarrside produced a massive shock as they dumped Premier Division outfit Oddfellows out with an emphatic 6-1 win.

Oddfellows started the game very brightly and should of been 2 goals up within 5 minutes when Shaun King was guilty of missing 2 guilt edged chances which he blazed over and wide. Oddfellows Andy Smith was causing all sorts of problems to their centre halves but the 3 times he went clean through missed every chance. Hollycarrside then took the lead against the run of play when Paul Stokoe scored at the near post. Oddfellows though levelled straight away when a Stevie Allan corner found Andy Smith whose looping header found the far corner. Oddfellows were surging forward and had more glaring chances with Smith having 3 of them Colquhoun and Murray all missing. Hollycarrside though grabbed the lead just before halftime with a swift counter attack that ended with Nathan O’Neill finding the back of the net.

Oddfellows again started very brightly and should of got an early equaliser but the home goalkeeper produced a string of fine saves. Hollycarrside got a third on 60 minutes when a mistake from Joe Thompson gifted them a goal that was scored by Callum Kerr. The visitors then switched to a 3-5-2 formation and piled forward looking to get back in the game but that worked straight into Hollycarrside's hands who scored 3 goals in a 12 minute period thanks to strikes from Leighton Stephenson, Brian Bell and a second goal from Paul Stoker. Oddfellows huffed and puffed but couldn’t break a stubborn Hollycarrside defence down and the full time whistle went with Oddfellows somehow on a receiving end of a battering but all credit to Hollycarrside who took every chance what come their way.

Seaham Harkers Bar romped to a 7-0 win at FC Whitburn to progress to the next round. Matthew Mustard was too hot to handle as he plundered in four goals and was assisted by strikes from Darren Ruddick (2) and Michael Wilson. Star man for Harkers was Anthony Armstrong.

Gleneagles are scoring goals for fun at the minute and it continued in their cup clash as they stormed to a 9-2 win against Hartlepool The Fens Hotel.

The Eagles were outstanding from the first whistle and the visitors just simply couldn’t handle the attacking football that was on show. Goals from Tony Hammond (2), David Robinson (2), Craig Collins (2), Ethan Lee , Terry Clinton and the Blue Bullet himself Jamie Cole saw the Eagles safely through.

Wearside Wildcats had too much bite in them as they roared to a 6-2 win at the Three Horse Shoes.

The Wildcats were 2 up at half time with Aminu scoring 2 before the break. With the wind now in the Wildcats favour they were able to capitalise and win the tie 6-2 with Aminu scoring another 2 in the second half, accompanied by a man of the match performance. Karkera and Brettell also scored for the visitors. The Shoes replied with efforts from Gavin Foot and Carl Chapman and their star performer was Jack Quinn.

Hetton New Inn exited the competition after a 2-1 defeat at Hartlepool St James.

ALAN HOOD MEMORIAL TROPHY

Shiney Row Wheatsheaf caused a mighty upset as they knocked out Silksworth Golden Fleece with a stunning 4-2 win. Dean Wilkinson was the Wheatsheaf hero as he notched an excellent hattrick and a further goal from Michael Dixon secured the win. The Fleece replied through goals from Nathan Doran and Matthew Robson.

Wheatsheaf star man was Brett Rowntree as was Kris Tyson for the Golden Fleece.

PREMIER DIVISION

Hendon FC were denied 3 points as they had to begrudgingly settle for a controversial 2-2 draw at home to Hylton CW.

Hendon started brightly in very windy conditions and took the lead after an excellent cross from Gareth Hill resulted in a good headed finish from Jason Gargett, Hendon were on top in the first 10 minutess but Hylton rallied and started to get at Hendon. Hylton with the wind at their backs quickly equalised after Hendon failed to clear their lines and Dean Machin finished well. Hendon then made it 2-1 after breaking down the left and James Dickinson supplied a cool finish firing into the bottom corner. Hylton then brought themselves level again as Gareth Greener finished well from an offside position when again Hendon failed to clear the ball and it was crossed back into the player standing in his own field. The equalising goal saw Hendon FC chairman Michael Lynch require first aid on the touchline as he choked on his tomato soup with extra crunchy croutons as the decision to allow the goal stand took him by surprise.

Redhouse FC looked to have turned the corner as they recorded an excellent 2-1 win to halt the mini revival of Hall Farm Blakeneys who were missing several key players.

Redhouse nearly opened the scoring on 4o seconds but Tranter was on hand to clear off the line, but the visitors took the lead on 3 minutes as Liam Wooton capitalised on slack marking to slot home. The Farm were then awarded a penalty but Calvin Magnus watched on in horror as he missed, but his despair was short lived as he scored the equaliser with a well taken individual effort. The second half was a bit of a drab affair but Redhouse were the better side and it was that man again Liam Wooton who scored the winning goal after a great attacking move. Farm huffed and puffed but couldn’t manage a shot on target.

Hendon Grange romped to a 12-0 win at home to a severely depleted Aquatic Sports. Three players helped themselves to hattricks and they were Michael ‘Mighty Mouse’ Montgomery, Shaun Metcalf and Paul Thompson. Further goals from Glyn Lamb, Stephen Langton and Stephen Wright heaped more misery on David Hoeys’ side.

Luke Page starred for The Grange as did Chris Anderson for Aquatic.

Farringdon Dolphin have the bragging rights as the strolled to an 8-2 derby success against neighbours Colonel Prior.

The Dolphin had 3 great chances in the 1st 10 minutes but stand in striker Heath was seeing 3 balls and chose the wrong ones and fired wide with the goal at his mercy. The league leaders eventually did go in front on 15 minutes when Marc Stephenson squared it to Micky Nicholson 25 yards out who in turn dinked a lob over the keeper.It was 2-0 on 20 minutes when Redmans ball over the top was chased down by Andy Place who calmly prodded home. 3-0 moments later when Beefy sobered up and slide in a Stephenson cross. 4-0 on the half hour mark after a Nicholson corner was headed across goal by Redman for Matty Frost to crash home his header into the roof of the net.

The Dolphin came out the second half thinking it was over and when Pope pulled down Tatters in the box, David Hughes sent Jackson the wrong way then panic set in. Jackson went off after hurting his hand and Adam Heath went in goal and was soon picking the ball out the back of the net after Tatters went through 1-on-1 and buried it. That sparked Dolphin into life, it was 5-2 on 70 minutes when Stephenson rocketed home a left foot volley from a Nicholson cross and Stephenson immediately set up Kris Johnson who made no mistake with a well taken goal to make it 6-2. Goal of the game came on 80mins when Stephenson scored a screamer top right hand corner from 30 yards with the keeper having no chance. Andy Place grabbed the 8^th goal on full time after robbing the keeper to tap home.

A vastly improved West End Potters can count themselves unlucky as they were held to a 3-3 draw at home to FC Chesters.

West End faced an uphill task as veteran Anthony Nelson was shown a red card for dissent and Chesters capitalised on this by taking the lead courtesy of a Jordan Jefferson penalty. West though hit back straight away as comeback king Michael Wharton hit a deserved equaliser, then it got better for the home side as Daley Clarke put the ten men outfit ahead as his scuffed shot found its way into the net which left the visiting keeper rather embarrassed. Chester then equalised on the stroke of half time as Stephen Murphy scrambled home.

The second half was just as good as the first and it was Chesters who took the lead as the home keeper and defender got into a bit of a tangle that allowed Gareth Mence to stroke the ball into the net. West End never gave in and they showed their battling qualities as they scored a much deserved equaliser with a Josh Mills strike. West then could have won the game but Paul Webber and Gavin Prudhoe were guilty of missing sitters.

Michael Alsop starred for Chesters as did Josh Dow for West End who himself was unplayable.

FIRST DIVISION

Bluestone Construction showed no mercy as they continued their good league form with a resounding 4-0 win against Park View.

Starting with only 10 men including the manager, Bluestone were kicking against a strong wind and when Quinton Fortune put them ahead after 15 minutes it was no more than the hard working ten men deserved. Fortune then hit the bar with a cracking 25 yard drive. At half time they knew they had the wind and were confident of victory. Kevin Johnson, Bonzo and Grainger were running the midfield and upfront McKenna and Adam Bates were running the show. Craig Donkin struck the second and his teams 3^rd goals before Brent McKenna struck his usual goal to complete a great win.

Times Inn earned the three points with an excellent 3-2 win at East Durham Spartans thanks to goals from David Raeper, Mark Bewick and Neil McNulty who was also man of the match.

University of Sunderland were pushed all the way as they won 5-4 against Victoria Gardens.

MATCH REPORT FOR 22^ND OCTOBER 2011

PREMIER DIVISION

Hall Farm Blakeneys made it back to back wins as they won 1-0 at Oddfellows in what was a very tight encounter at Thompson Park.

The game kicked off and was very cagey for the first ten minutes with no chances for either side. Oddfellows though did create the first chance after 12 minutes when Andy Smith escaped from his marker down the right and put a great ball into the box but Stevie Colquhoun was just inches away from tapping into the empty net. Oddfellows then won a corner on 15 minutes which Rowntree took but as Hall Farm cleared it went straight back to Rowntree on the edge of the box who then unleashed a powerful curling effort which brought a fantastic save from Hall Farms goalkeeper. Oddfellows were starting to turn the screw and after 20 minutes good passing from Rowntree and Livingston found left back Aaron Donkin on the edge of the box but his effort was straight at the keeper. Hall Farm were struggling to create anything clear cut but always looked dangerous on the break. After half an hour a Oddfellows free kick was whipped in by Stevie Allan which was flicked on by Colquhoun to find Paul Simon who shot but again brought a good save from the visiting keeper. Oddfellows then finally did beat Hall Farms Keeper when Coluqhuon curled one from 30yrsds only to see his effort crash back off the cross bar. Oddfellows then had one more great chance in the first half when Colquhoun went clean through but couldnt beat the goalkeeper who saved well.

Hall Farm kicked off the second half with the wind to their advantage and nearly took the lead on 47 minutes when a left wing corner was swung in only to see Livingston head towards his own goal but Chris Rowntree was on the post to clear off the line. Hall Farm kept coming forward but could not create anything clear cut and Oddfellows were restricting them to long range efforts. With both defences on top form chances were hard to come by. Oddfellows Chis Rowntree tried an ambitious overhead kick what went over and Hall Farms Kyle Lax was a thorn in Oddfellows side all game but didnt have his shooting boots on with a few efforts wide. On 75 minutes Oddfellows emergency keeper made his first mistake of the game when he cleared staright to Hall Farm striker but his lob went high and wide. As the game was heading for a draw disaster struck for Oddfellows when Mark Whitfield try to dribble his way out of trouble but was tackled by a Dean Smith who went through on goal and dinked the ball over the on-rushing Stanness and see the ball trickle over the line. Oddfellows tried in vain to find a equaliser but Hall Farm stood strong and held on for the win.

Farringdon Dolphin now have a firm grip on top spot as they coasted to a 3-1 win against Aquatic Sports.

The Dolphin were always in control of this match and scored inside 15 minutes when Andy Morris's defence splitting pass was met by Brett Gillatt who evaded two challenges and fired low past the keeper. It was 2-0 2 minutes later when a Woodward corner was met by Karl "Vidic" Adams on the edge of the area and he put an awesome slide-rule pass into Michael Nobles path to bury under the keeper. Within 90 seconds Aquatic pulled one back when a hopeful punt from the keeper was met flush on the volley by Marc Stephenson who watched on in horror as his volley crashed into his OWN net from 25 yards. It was a goal that wouldn’t look out of place on any Own goals & Gaffs Christmas DVD. The Dolphin had the lions share of the play but were unable to get the 3rd goal until 60 minutes when a Makin cross was missed by Gillatt but landed 10 yards out at the back post for Andy Morris to rifle home. The scoreline could have been more but Makin and Gillatt left there shooting boots at home. Noble starred for Dolphin as did Mark Dickinsonfor Aquatic.

Three Horse Shoes were denied three points as they surrended a four goal lead to draw 5-5 with Colonel Prior. THS got off to a flying start as they raced into a two goal lead courtesy of 2 goals from Nathan Robinson in the first 8 minutes. David Dixon then scored to make it 3-0 but his side lost concentration and just as the half time whistle blew the Prior pulled a goal back.

The second half saw Nathan Robinson as his goal was controversially ruled out but minutes late David Dixon grabbed his second goal and the Carl Chapman scored to more or less seal the win. The home side were caught napping as the Prior couldn’t believe their luck as they scored four unanswered goals in a crazy spell with the equaliser coming in the last minute.

A Paul Cromack goal was enough to give Redhouse FC a 1-0 win against FC Chesters.

Steven Anderson starred for Redhouse as did Wayne Green well for Chesters.

Hendon Grange had their shooting boots on as they obliterated Silksworth Golden Fleece 9-0. Shaun Metcalf grabbed a hattrick and further goals came from Glyn Lamb (2), Paul Thompson, Josh Joyce, Adam Campbell and Michael Montgomery.

Mark Bewick starred for the Fleece.

FIRST DIVISION

University of Sunderland remain in second place after a convincing 5-1 win at Times Inn. Star man Neil McNulty replied for Times Inn but they simply couldn’t handle the students whose goals came from Carl Thomas, Jack Halliday, Dan Wilson, Andrew White and Joe Wallis.

FC Whitburn won 4-2 at Park View thanks to strikes from Robbie Campbell, Alex Smiles, Craig Mann and man of the match John Bailey. Star man David Brown and Dominic Murphy replied for Park View.

Gleneagles stormed to an 8-2 success at the expense of Hollycarrside who simply had no answer to the attacking play of their hosts.

Alan Oliver was the architect behind the win as he supplied assists for most of the most that came from Alan Surtees (2), James Smith (2), Craig Collins (2), Luke Dodds and Brad Hutchinson. Hollycarrside responded with Paul Stokoe scoring twice.

Seaham Harkers Bar ran out 3-2 winners at Wearside Athletic in what was a thrilling contest.

The game started off with both teams trying to keep the ball down to play football in the windy conditions. It was a poor first 20 minutes has both teams were battling hard to try and control the game with both sides only having half chances at goal. The first real chance went to the home side as new signing Adam McQuillan used his pace to leave the defender for dead and played a one two with strike partner Hope-Hindmarsh only for to see his shot parried away from the keeper and cleared down field.Harkers Bar started to get control of the game and play some good football but couldn’t find that final ball through the resolute home defence. With 15 minutes left of the first half Harkers opened the scoring with the ball played over the top the home full back slipped and the ball bounced off his face and played Matthew Mustard through on goal with only the keeper to beat he calmly slotted the ball into the net. Athletic didn’t let their heads drop and could have had the equaliser with minutes left of the half with striker McQuillan raced away and from a tight angle smashed the ball just wide of the post.

The second half kicked off with both teams again battling to get a hold of the ball in the difficult conditions. Ten minutes into the second half Athletic drew level through top scorer John Hope-Hindmarsh who flicked a header into the top corner from a lee Marsh flick on. With 15 minutes left of the game Athletic were on top and looking for that second goal only for Harkers Bar to break away on a counter attack and it was that man again Matthew Mustard who scored his second goal of the game at the second attempt. This goal gave the visitors a lift and started to put pressure on the Athletic goal and with 8 minutes left they got there third of the game. A nice ball played through the midfield seen four seaham players race through and with only lee marsh really putting pressure on the forwards who managed to square the ball through to Mustard who smashed the ball home from 10 yards for his hattrick. All credit to Athletic asthey still didn’t let their heads drop and got there second goal of the game. Some lovely football in midfield sent Adam McQuillan away and his pace caused problems once again for the visitors defence and his ball into the box caused problems as the defence couldn’t get the ball cleared and John Hope-Hindmarsh smashed home his second goal of the game from 6 yards game on with minutes left of the game. Harkers were cramped in their own half for the last few minutes but were able to hang on to the victory.

Shiney Row Wheatsheaf won 4-1 at home to East Durham Spartans. Michael Hartley grabbed Spartans consolation goal.

WEARMOUTH & HYLTON CHARITY CUP

Hendon FC won 4-1 at Hylton CW thanks to goals from Graeme Thornton, Gareth Hill, David Rush and Eddie Jackson. Jason Gargett was in sparkling form for the East End side. Star man Jordan Cook replied for Hylton.

Wearside Wildcats won through to the next round as they prevailed in a penalty shoot out after the game with Hetton New Inn ended 2-2 after extra time.

Aminu opened the scoring early on putting the Wildcats 1-0 up with Jarvis levelling the
scoring just before the break. Leadbitter put the Wildcats back in front from a free kick
midway through the second half before John Quarmby struck a 40 yard shot that flew past the Wildcats goalkeeper 10 minutes from the end. Extra time was a stalemate between the two sides resulting in the penalty shootout that gave the Wildcats the tie.

West End Potters had to dig very deep for the 4-3 win against Bluestone Construction in order to progress to the next round. Josh Low scored with a stunning strike but then Bluestone equalised. Michael Wharton made a welcome return from a long injury lay off and scored a cracking goal and then grabbed a second goal for himself but Bluestone refused to lie down and rallied as they scored twice more after the home defence lost the plot. West End won the game as Paul Thompson atoned for his errors and grabbed the winner. Bluestone replied through the prolific Brent McKenna (2) and Richard Bland.

ROUND 1

Seaham Harkers Bar dumped out holders Redhouse FC with an emphatic 5-0 win.

Seaham were quickest out of the blocks and were one up soon into the game with a fine finish from skipper Shane Docherty. Micky Wilson soon made it 2-0 running through onto an inch perfect pass from Matthew Mustard and produced a fine finish. Seaham went in at half time on top in the game, but home keeper Pipe had to be on alert as he had to make several fine saves to keep Redhouse at bay.

The second half started the same as the first and Seaham made it 3-0 with Ryan Temple taking on the centre half and finishing into the bottom corner. Docherty score his second of the game with a fine flick from outside of the box. Pipe again making superb saves to keep out the Redhouse attack leaving them frustrated. Docherty then completed his hattrick with a well executed lob from the edge of the box that left the visiting keeper stranded.

Tom Bell starred for Redhouse.

Hall Farm Blakeneys produced their best performance of the season as they knocked last seasons runners up out of the competition TheThree Horse Shoes with a resounding 6-1 win at Herrington CW.

Farm opened the scoring when Dean Smith got clear down the right, his inch perfect cross found Calvin Magnus who finished superbly for his first of the season, at the other end Lee Smith in goal pulled off a great save before Farm hit Shoes on the counter, Magnus was involved again as he took a pass from Grainger and drove on, he hit an effort off the bar and the ball fell invitingly for Dean Smith who finished acrobatically. Within 2 minutes the excellent Bowes ran clear and showed great composure to finish to make it 3-0. The Shoes were now out of sorts and kicking out in frustration, as Farm then went further ahead as a Bowes corner teed up man of the match Andy Adey to head home. Three Horse Shoes got one back with a neat back post header from Shaun McGregor.Despite conceding this spurred Farm on again and next to follow was the goal of the game, a searching cross had the Shoes keeper flapping and off his lineas the ball arrived at Bowes 35 yards from goal and he took a touch, looked up and arrowed the ball over the defence and keeper for a goal good enough to grace any game at any level.

The second half was much quieter as Shoes looked more solid, chances were missed by Magnus and Smith before Steele who had replaced ex Shoes man Micky Bowden almost matched Bowes's effort when his 40 yard effort went just over, team captain Kyle Lax rounded off the game in the 88th minute with a Gascoigne like run and finish for 6-1.

Hollycarrside dumped Premier Division outfit Hendon Grange out with a battling 4-2 win. The Grange had Paul Thompson and Paul Carter on target and the latter was later sent off and this spurred on Hollycarrside who responded with goals from Callum Hellens (2), Nathan O’Neill and star man Paul Stokoe to win to progress to the second round.

Silksworth Golden Fleece needed extra time as they finally saw off Wearside Athletic 6-5 in what was an end to end thriller.

Wearside started the brightest out of the both teams and should have been at least three nil in the first 15 minutes but for some good goal keeping and defending from the Fleece. 20 minutes into the game Athletic did the lead after excellent movement from Craig lamb as he raced down the wing and left the defender well behind and then crossed the ball over for John Hope-Hindmarsh to head the ball into the top right hand corner giving the golden fleece keeper no chance. On 22 minutes Athletic doubled their lead through some good football and Scott Critchlow cut in from the right wing and slotted the ball under the on rushing golden fleece keeper. On 28 minutes things got even better for the first division team as John Hope-Hindmarsh beat the offside trap just inside the fleece half and raced clear keeping his cool he slotted the ball under the Fleece keeper to get his second of the game to make it 3-0. With 10 minutes left of the first half the Fleece grabbed a lifeline as they whipped in a free kick and it was met with a thumping header from a Fleece player only for Max Thomas to pull off an excellent save but only for the ball to drop to the feet of Shaun Wilkie to smash the ball in from 3 yards. That goal gave the fleece players a lift and they finished the half the stronger team only for the excellent form of the Athletic keeper Max Thomas to keep the hosts at bay.

The second half saw both teams go at it full pelt but it was Athletic who extended their lead as they were awarded a penalty and up stepped Hope-Hindmarsh to smash the ball into the bottom right of the net for his hattrick . Now the Fleece's never say die attitude got there second of the game on 55 minutes it was similar to their first goal as Richard Maughan struck. On 63 minutes some good football from Athletic saw them increase their lead to 5-2 as Ben Jasper went clean through on goal and from 20 yards he chipped the ball over the keeper and into the net with his first touch of the game. On 70 minutes the Fleece pulled another goal back Matthew Robson struck from a well delivered cross. Five minutes late Fleece scored yet again as Maughan struck for his second of the game. In the last minute of the game Fleece were amazingly on level terms as they equalises with a dubious goal, Wilkie crossed and Nathan Doran pounced to send the game into extra time. Athletic were left bewildered by the decision to let the goal stand but Fleece were not bothered and could now smell victory.

Extra time kicked off with both teams looking for that killer goal and chances went begging at both ends. With 5 minutes remaining Athletic thought they had got the winner but Critlow saw his effort hit the outside of the post. With minutes to go the Fleece grabbed the winner in bizarre and controversial circumstances as Matthew Robson slammed home from 5 yards after a free kick was whipped in with a heavy shout for handball but Fleece kept their composure to score and held on to win after a remarkable comeback.

Times Inn progressed with a 6-2 win against Shiney Row Wheatsheaf. The hero for the Times was Neil McNulty who blasted in a hattrick and he was supported with further strikes from Mark Bewick (2) and Daniel Defty. Wheatsheaf replied through Paul Bridge and Brett Rowntree, their man of the match was Wayne Thompson.

FC Chesters held of a valiant challenge from Park View to squeeze through with a 3-2 win. The View scored through Ron Baker and star man John Harrison, but strikes from Jon Wardle (2) and the prolific Anthony Clifton saw Chesters through to the next round.

FC Whitburn romped to a 6-1 win at home to AC Sunderland whose consolation goal came from Layton Conley. Whitburn won with goals from Andrew Smith (2), Jack Fawcett, John Bailey, Robbie Campbell and man of the match Dayne Weir.

Star performer for AC was Matthew Brennan.

Gleneagles produced a hardfought performance to win 3-1 at Victoria Gardens.

This was a niggly encounter with chances few a far between. Alan Surtees the Eagles answer to Kevin Phillips continued his goal scoring form with 2 goals and Ethan Lee notching the other. The Eagles looked solid at the back with the return of Kane 'Cowboy' Clinton and man of the match was wing wizard David 'Noddy' Robinson.

Farringdon Dolphin progressed without playing as Colonel Prior were unable to field a team.

West End Potters grabbed their first league point of the season as they battled to a 1-1 draw at Hylton CW.

Hylton had the best opportunities in the first half but were denied time and time again by visiting keeper Warren Cassop who pulled off some breathtaking saves. Hylton did take the lead however as Cassop brilliantly saved a penalty but Matthew Raine was on hand to stab home the loose ball.

The second half saw West End come out fighting and they got their just rewards three minutes from time as a Glenn Hoddle style pass from Daley Clarke found Clayton cox who kept his composure to lob the keeper to send the visiting supporters wild with delight.

Gavin Greener starred for Hylton CW.

Hendon FC closed the gap on the leaders as they ran out 3-0 winners away to Aquatic Sports.

The game started with Hendon passing the ball about well and having a few early chances but Aquatic keeper Josh Atkinson kept them at bay with some great saves. Aquatic themselves had a couple of chances but could not find the net then it was Hendon who took command of the game as they raced into a 2-0 lead as Gareth Hill struck twice with a well placed shot and a thumping header.

The second half started with Aquatic trying to create a few chances but could not get past a strong Hendon defence and it wasn’t long before it was 3-0 as substitute Steve Clark scored with a well taken shot from the edge of the box after a good move down the right. Hendon could have scored more with some good play but Aquatic keeper Josh ‘Monty’ Atkinson kept it down to three.

Hetton New Inn are vastly improving and it showed as they won 3-0 against Oddfellows.

The game kicked off and it was Hetton who created the first chance after 5 minutes when their long throw specialist sent a Rory Delap type throw straight into the box to their striker who headed towards the top corner only to bring an excellent save from Oddfellows keeper Chris Smith. Oddfellows did fall behind on 10 minutes when a long free kick found the unmarked Chris Armstrong who made no mistake to find the bottom corner. Things went from bad to worse on 15 minutes when Oddfellows captain and there only recognised centre half on the pitch had to be carried off with an ankle injury. Oddfellows created their first chance when a Andy Middleton cross nearly found the top corner and they then made their best move of the game when some slick passing from Stevie Colquhoun and Stevie Allan found Andy Smith on the edge of the box but his powerful shot was straight at the keeper who saved easily. Oddfellows Chris Rowntree then fired a 25 yard free kick just wide and Stevie Colquhoun brought a smart save from Hettons keeper. Hetton though were creating havoc with their long throws and crosses but just couldn’t find that clear cut chance. Hetton though did get a crucial and deserved second just before half time when a through ball should of been cleared by Paul Simon but let Damian Hope nick the ball off him and he finished coolly into the top corner.

Oddfellows come out for the second half with a bit fight about them and created three quick corners which came to nothing. Andy Smith then forced the keeper into a save with a header from a Rowntree freekick. Oddfellows Keith Airson then got sent off after a Wayne Rooney type flick on a Hetton player, this spurred Hetton on even further and they then made it 3-0 as Chris Smith initially saved a 30 yard piledriver but the referee then gave a penalty after the forward was fouled trying to score. Star man Anthony Ashman stepped up to score the spot kick. Oddfellows though never give up and had chances through Andy Smith but on both occasions seen Hettons keeper save well.

FIRST DIVISION

Wearside Wildcats kept top spot as they overcame Bluestone Construction 3-1 in a tight encounter. Aminu (2) and Callaghan notched for Wildcats, Bluestone replied with a strike from Brent McKenna who just can’t seem to stop scoring.

University of Sunderland remain hot on the heels of the leagues as they won 3-1 away to East Durham Spartans thanks to goals from Jack Halliday, Dan Wilson and Andrew White. Spartans replied through Lee Wood.

Jared Jones starred for Spartans, as did Jordan Birnie for the Uni lads.

MATCH REPORT FOR SATURDAY 8^TH OCTOBER 2011

PREMIER DIVISION

Hylton CW found their shooting boots as they thrashed Colonel Prior 12-1 at the Billy Hardy Centre. The Colliers had the Golighlty brothers Alan and Kevin in imperious form as they both plundered in hattricks. Further goals from Graham Bunker (2), Adam McQuillan (2), Jordan Cook and Matthew Raine.

Hetton New Inn dug deep as they triumphed 3-2 at home to FC Chesters thanks to goals from Chris Armstrong, John Quarmby and Michael Smith. The visitors replied through Anthony Clifton and Gareth Mence, David Robason was their star man.

Redhouse FC looked to have turned the corner as they won their local derby 3-1 against Aquatic Sports at Downhill. Aquatic scored with a goal from Mark Fisk but David Hoeys men simply couldn’t handle Michael Conlon who capped a fine display to by scoring twice againsy his old club. Redhouse other goal came from Stephen Anderson.

Aquatic star performer was Mark Dickinson.

Three Horse Shoes can feel as though they dropped two points as they missed a hatful of chances in an entertaining 2-2 against Hendon FC.

It was THS who started the brighter side with their slick passing and quick movement as Hendon struggled to get a foothold on the game as they squandered possession time after time as they couldn’t cope with the home sides tenacious tackling and hard pressing. Stokell had the first chance for the home side as he was put in the clear but he shot straight at the keeper and the home side continued to pepper the Hendon goal. The breakthrough finally came as some great play in the midfield involving Moore and Quinn saw Ben Ward scampering from full back and he went clean through to tuck the ball under the diving keeper and into the net which brought wild celebrations from the home crowd. Hendon made an immediate change as they looked to get back into the game as they had struggled thus far to string two passes together and lacked heart and determination that was clearly shown by the home side. Hendon finally got back into the game as a Thornton free kick was headed into the bottom corner by Gareth Hill who took advantage of some slack defending. Hill almost gave his side a surprise lead but his effort was kept out by the alert keeper.

The second half saw THS come flying out of the traps as they continued to dominate in this pulsating clash, a great chance was squandered on the hour as a fine flowing move by THS ended with Jordyn Moore missing his shot completely with the goal at his mercy. His blushes were spared not long after as a through ball was met by Stokell but his attempted lob was miscued but the impressive youngster Nathan Robinson was first to react as he side footed the ball into the net much to the delight of his team mates. Robinson again had a glorious chance to seal the game but he shot straight at the keeper when he should have took it round him. THS were looking confident as the game went and more chances fell to Robinson and Stokell but wayward finish let them down and disaster struck for the home side as Stokell was dismissed for dissent. This perked up Hendon and they began to play with confidence and started to get back into the game and were nearly 3-1 down but David Dixon saw his shot clip the crossbar. Hendon made another tactical substitution as they looked for that elusive equaliser and they started to pile on the pressure as the home side started to lose their composure and on 77 minutes Hendon grabbed the equaliser as cross was whipped in and the unmarked James Dickinson scored with a stunning bicycle kick which flew past the startled keeper. Hendon were now looking to make the advantage of a man extra count and they almost scored the winner as Jason Gargett went on a solo run and his 25 yard shot hit the crossbar. Despite having only ten men the home side continued to pour forward in search for the winner but to no avail and it was Hendons Rob McManus that nearly grabbed the winner as his his header was cleared off the line. Both sides can be commended on putting on a great display of football and the passion and commitment shown was second to none.

Hendon Grange put their recent derby defeat behind them as they won 4-1 against a disjointed Hall Farm Blakeneys.

Dean Smith replied for Hall Farm as they were second best to a dominant Grange side who had Brian Carter amongst the goals.

Farringdon Dolphin increased their lead at the top of the table but they were made to fight all the way in their 2-1 win against a new look West End Potters.

The Dolphin started strongly and were dominating with the midfielders pulling the strings and were ahead on 12 minutes when Nicholson played in Woodward who lobbed the onrushing Hunter in the West End goal. It was 2-0 on 22 minutes when a Place shot was saved into the path of Andy Morris who rifled home. Place then missed a great chance nodding over from a yard out with the keeper nowhere. Dolphin dominated the remaining of the half but couldn’t find a breakthrough.

The second half and Dolphin kept up the pressure with some good
chances, Andy Place getting closer as this time his header hit the
crossbar, Matty Frosts 20 yard free kick was turned round the post by the Potters keeper. Farringdon were unable to kill the game off and conceded
on 70 minutes as Karl Adams won a tackle in defence but the ball ricochet
to Kurt Jenkins who ran in on goal and finished well, Jackson managing to get a hand on it. Potters were pumped up to the max and gave everything in the last 20 minutes, Farringdon however made the more clear cut chances, Gary " Ginger Cafu" Butts, made one of his famous lung busting runs as he cut inside and his left foot shot cannoned off the foot of the post. Fair play to West End they never gave up and credit to their players for there never-say-die attitude. Karl Adams picked up the pint tokens for the Dolly with Micky Woodward outstanding. Daley Clarke and Josh Dow were West Ends star performers.

FIRST DIVISION

Wearside Athletic produced their best display of the season as they won 6-3 away to Victoria Gardens.

On a cold wet day Wearside took the lead through a David Wilkinson strike with a deflection off the defender which left the keeper no chance. All credit to Victoria Gardens they didn’t let their heads drop and they played some good football but couldn’t find a way past the outstanding Max Thomas in goal which he pulled of some excellent saves. Midway through the first half Wearside doubled their lead through some good football and Craig Lamb placed the ball well in to the bottom right hand corner from 18 yards. Just before half time the visitors extended their lead as John Hope-Hindmarsh thumped a header into the top corner.

The second half started the same with Wearside grabbing their fourth as Brett Chapman lashed in from 6 yards after a goalmouth scramble. The Gardeners eventually pulled a goal back via a cruel deflection off the keepers head. Wearside started to press on after that goal and got there 5th through as Hope-Hindmarsh got his second goal of the game with a free kick from 20 yards that gave the keeper no chance. The sixth goal came from James Butler, the home side managed to pull another two goals back after some sloppy and careless defending.

Hollycarrside won 5-1 against FC Whitburn thanks to goals from star man Brian Bell, Paul Stokoe, Nathan O’Neil, Scott Tench and Callum Hellens. Whitburn replied with a strike from Robbie Campbell and their star performer was John Bailey.

East Durham Spartans won 3-1 at Park View who replied with a goal from Ronald Baker. Spartans scored with efforts from Philip and Alan Robinson, Michael Hartley also got on the scoresheet.

Park View man of the match was David Brown.

Bluestone Construction fought their way to a 5-3 win at Times Inn thanks to goals from Ian Douglas, Ian Bird, Joe Taboun, Richard Bland and Brent McKenna who came off the bench to seal the game and keep up his impressive goalscoring form of 6 goals in 9 games. Times Inn replied through Darren Blakeston, Mark Bewick and Daniel Defty, their man of the match was Joe Walters.

Wearside Wildcats kept their place at the top of the league as they battled to a 3-0 win against Glenaeagles.

The Wildcats were 2-0 up at half time with goals from
Preece and a converted penalty from Tom Foster. Callaghan
completed the scoring to make it 3-0 not long from full
time. A stand out display from Joe Clayton made the game's
scoreline look far more one sided that the game actually
was.

Shiney Row Wheatsheaf won 11-1 against bottom side AC Sunderland.

Seaham Harkers Bar earned a fine 3-1 win at home to University of Sunderland.

Matthew Mustard struck twice and Shane Docherty also scored to keep Harkers Bar in the promotion places. The Uni side scored through Andrew Jamieson and their star man was Jordan Birnie.

DURHAM MINOR CUP

FC Whitburn needed extra time to progress as they won 3-2 against a stubborn Wearhead United.

The game started with a wonder goal scored by Wearhead
United to put them 1-0 up, a strike coming in from 25
yards out bent into the top corner leaving the keeper no
chance. From then on Whitburn dominated the game but
couldn't find the finishing touch as a flurry of chances
fell to Whitburn with Andy Smith firing wide from a tight
angle, Dayne Weir testing the keeper from range and John
Bailey firing deliveries in time after time across the
United box going to waste. 20 minutes into the game
Wearhead struck once again, this time with a freakish
goal coming directly from an in swinging corner,
completely against the run of play. The half finished
more of the same without reply from Whitburn however.

The second half saw Whitburn come out all guns blazing and pulled
one back within a minute of the restart through Ryan
Tones' powerful shot beating United's keeper at his front
post. Wearhead had the odd counter attack which often
went to waste but Whitburn were in full flow with only
Uniteds keeper stopping them pulling level. The score was
finally levelled 15 minutes from time with a fantastic
strike from Dayne Weir equaling that of the effort of
United's opening goal. The game reached full time with
the scores level at 2-2, thanks to a tremendous display by
the Wearhead keeper.

Extra time started and before long Alex Eleazar was
played through in on goal to tuck away Whitburns third
neatly. Again Wearhead had the opportunities to come back
into the game through corners and set pieces after
Whitburn continued to be wasteful of their chances but they held on to clinch a remarkable comeback win.

A depleted FC Chesters missed chances galore as they exited the competition with a 1-0 defeat to Wardley FC.

The game kicked off in sweltering conditions with the
visitors coming close to opening the scoring which was
down to some dogged defending and resulting in Wardley
taking long range shots. Neither side made the keeper work too hard in the first half but the best chance fell to Simon Meah with a neat through ball to Mence on the
wing his cross fell to Meah to leave him with a simple
1yard tap in only to hit the keeper and the rebound going
wide.
With Chesters now using the slope to their advantage, it
was hoped that they could now start and turn the screw but
only ended up knocking the ball too long and out of play much to the frustration of their forwards.
The home side started to take control again and were
eventually rewarded with the only goal of the game. From
a corner kick Scott Dunlop made a vital clearance off the
line then with the whole team running out the clearance
fell nicely to their full back to volley right into the
bottom corner just escaping the reach of the diving
keeper for 1-0.
Chesters shuffled the pack around and went for it in latter stages of the game and
in the final minutes of injury time thesix pronged
attack nearly made extra time finally beating the
offside trap and a resulting effort hitting the onrushing
keeper after a fine block the rebound ran too far in front
of Fisher who ran out of pitch to try and slot into an
empty net.

A Cole Davison hattrick was enough for Hetton New Inn to progress 3-0 winners away to Bluestone Construction. Star man for Bluestone was David Hurrell.

Hollycarrside romped to an 8-0 win away to AC Sunderland with Luke Bell leading the way with a well taken hattrick, further goals came from Nathan O’Neill (2), Corey Bell, Scott Tench and Anthony Powell.

Wearside Wildcats progressed to the next round with a 4-2 win at home over Willngton FC. Preece, Leadbitter, Appleton and Callaghan all getting their names on the score sheet.

The Three Horse Shoes battled to a 5-3 win at East Durham Spartans.

The Shoes got off to a blazing start with 2 goals in 5 minutes the first goal coming from Jack Quinn followed by a penalty scored by Gavin Foot. Spartans struggled to get into the game and it was no surprise when three more unanswered goals were scored from Nathan Robinson and a double from Anthony Stokell who was celebrating becoming a proud dad for the second time. Spartans replied with goals from Lee Wood, Phil Robinson and Michael Hartley.

Seaham Harkers Bar came out on top in a nine goal thriller running out 5-4 winners at home to Shiney Row Wheatsheaf.

Both sides were depleted and it was Seaham who started off the better with some good football played, new signing David Gill making a big impact in midfield and he opened the scoring with a fine top corner finish. Shiney were awarded a very soft penalty for hand ball even they couldnt believe it and it was 1-1. The referee again awarding a soft penalty to Seaham this time and top scorer Matthew Mustard made no mistake from the spot. The game soon turned into an end to end thriller as both teams were scoring at will as Darren Ruddick and another Mustard spot kick extended the Seham lead but they were soon pegged back. But with only minutes remaining Mustard grabbed the winner and his hattrick with an expertly taken free kick.

The Shiney Row scorers were Brett Rowntree (2), Brett Edwards and Wayne Thompson.

Wearside Athletic had John Hope-Hindmarsh and Michael Doran on target as they crashed out 2-3 against Seaton Carew.

Victoria Gardens slumped to a 5-1 defeat to Bishop Auckland The Bay Horses.

PREMIER DIVISION

Hall Farm Blakeneys romped to a 6-1 win against Silksworth Golden Fleece as they look to get their stop start season back on track.

Farm were imperios from the first whistle and it was talisman Phil Dorian who opened the scoring inside 5 minutes tapping home after The Fleece keeper made a great save from his own player. Two minutes later a brilliant move that involved the impressive Calvin Magnus three times ended with him curling an excellent effort just wide whilst Dorian, Hall and Timm had further chances before against the run of play The Fleece equalised with a well taken goal. That knocked Farm senseless and Fleece got on top and only a great save by the ever reliable Tom Charlton kept it level, just after that save Magnus got the ball next to the corner flag and he had two men round him with nowhere to go but a sublime bit of skill saw him wriggle away and clear and his inch perfect cross found Richard Timm who finished well into the corner to restore Farms lead.

The second half saw Farm increase their lead when sub Dean Smith was set up by that man Magnus to fire a great finish into the corner, Magnus soon departed after a fine shift to allow the Cardinals return, soon after Smith got his second with a neat finish, further chances were missed before Rob Hall crowned an excellent show with a defelected effort from 25 yards. Jackson crossed For Lay to head just wide, almost a dream return for The Cardinal but his movement was very good and his presence lifted the team. Dean Smith completed his hat-trick and rounded off a fine peformance when he ran clear and notched at the second attempt to make it 6-1.

The Colonel Prior won their first goal of the season as they battered Aquatic Sports 7-1 with the goal of the game coming from Andrew Tatters as he skinned Burgin then coolly chipped the keeper. Player manager David Hoey replied for Aquatic.

Redhouse FC returned to winning ways as they recorded an emphatic 7-2 win at West End Potters.

Star of the show was Liam Wootton who bagged a well taken hattrick, Anthony Yates (2), Stephen Anderson and Michael Conlon completed the scoring. West End replied with a brace from Daley Clarke, their star man was Josh Mills.

Hendon FC have the bragging rights as they won their derby clash 3-0 against in form Hendon Grange.

In unbelievable heat Hill View resembled the Maranaca Stadium in both climate and appearance due to sheer numbers and the amount of bare chests and the new Fosters ice lollies and the thousands packed into the ‘away end’ to see the ‘old men of Hendon’ finally get thrashed by the young pretenders. Hendon got out of the blocks early and Dickinson rattled the post in the first ten minutes, Luke Page was Granges main threat and he was causing Hendon problems through the middle, but Michael ‘the quiet man’ Gilby at the back for Hendon was looking solid. After 20 minutes James Dickinson produced a clinical finish to put Hendon into the lead and this silence the visiting fans who were now choking on their chips. The rest of the half was fiercly contested but produced very few chances

The second half Hendon stepped it up a gear and increased their lead after a good move down the right between Kelly and the impressive Dickinson this resulted in a cross that allowed Clark to head home well at the back post. The Grange then ran a little short of wind as Hendon were far to strong and their superior fitness began to show as Hendon finally put the game to bed as they made it 3-0 with a fine individual solo goal from Jason Gargett. The win saw Hendon leapfrog their neighbours into second place.

Farringdon Dolphin extended their lead at the top of the table as they exacted revenge on Hylton CW with a 3-0 win.

It was a laboured first 45 minutes in the 100 degrees at pitch side and both teams
struggled to create many chances with Jordan Cook volley from
6 yards brilliantly saved and tipped round post from Jackson and ex-
Farringdon player Danny Regan saving well at the other end to deny Brett
Gillatt a certain goal. The Dolphin changed it at half time and young Gaige
Lisle came on and soon they were 1-0 up from the restart as a
Michael Noble corner was volleyed home by Farran Pope. It was 2-0
on 48minutes as The Dolphin were well on top and it was Noble
again the architect laying on super sub Lisle to crash his shot into the roof of
the net from 10 yards. The Dolphin were immense and it was 3-0 on 70 minutes when
sub Andy Morris was fed in the channel by Gillatt and he beat his man
cut inside and rifled an unstoppable effort into the top corner. The scoreline should have been greater but the home side were guilty of squandering some glorious chances.

Dolphin won to ensure they remain top and their delight was echoed by Craig Parkinson who was seen skipping down the touchline at the final whistle like Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz on the yellow brick road.

MATCH REPORT FOR GAMES PLAYED SATURDAY 24^TH SEPTEMBER 2011

PREMIER DIVISION

A bumper crowd at the Billy Hardy Centre saw Oddfellows come away with the three points as they won a tight encounter 1-0 against Hylton CW.

The game kicked off and Oddfellows created the first chance when a Rowntree shot from 20 yards flew just wide. Steve Colquhoun had a great chance to put the visitors ahead when his shot from a tight angle was well saved by Hyltons keeper and 5 minutes after that the same player was again denied by a good stop from the keeper who saved well down to his right. Hylton start getting back in the game and created some half chances but nothing really clear cut. Oddfellows though did take the lead on 20 minutes when great work down the right hand side by Stevie Colquhuon saw his cross find Andy Smith 8yards out and his shot found the bottom corner to give Oddfellows a deserved lead. Hylton started to get a bit more in the game and had a good spell of pressure but again couldn’t really produce any clear cut chances and any efforts what were on target were straight at Oddfellows keeper Chirstopher Smith. The last chance of the half fell to Andy Smith whose 25yrd freekick hit the outside of the post.

Hylton come out the second half the better side and forced Christopher Smith into a save but he could only parry the ball back into play and after a goalmouth scramble Oddfellows finally cleared their lines. Oddfellows then went up the other end and won a corner which Andy Middleton took and after a couple of flicks from Colquhoun and Paul Simon the ball fell to Tommy Carline whose overhead kick hit the side netting. Oddfellows kept pressing for a second and had another 2 chances the first come from great closing down from Colquhoun and won the ball off Hyltons defence but his shot just flew over. The second came from a long ball from Paul Simon which found Colquhoun again but his lobbed effort was cleared off the line by a Hylton defender. With time running out Hylton pilled forward and a Darren Snowball effort was deflected just wide. Two minutes later another effort from the Hylton striker seen Tommy Carline clear the ball off the line in the nick of time. Hyltons best chance came on 75mins when a low cross found Ged Huntley free in the box but his first time strike flew high and wide of the goal. Oddfellows Andy Smith should have put the game to bed on 80minutes when he went clean through but his low shot was smothered by the Hylton goalkeeper. Hylton had 3 more chances in the last 5 minutes to claim a point but the first was well saved by Smith the second deflected just wide and the third was a free kick what just went wide. Oddfellows Andy Middleton struck a 25yrd shot which skimmed the crossbar in stoppage time what was the last kick of the game.

Darren Snowball starred for Hylton as did Kirk Hardy for Oddfellows.

Silksworth Golden Fleece made it back to back wins with a hard fought 4-3 victory over Redhouse FC. Early goals from Richard King and Shaun Wilkie seemed to put the Fleece in control, but when Redhouse pulled a goal back before half time the game was again in the balance. Kris Tyson restored the Fleece's two goal advantage with a superb long range effort, but two quick goals from Redhouse stunned the Fleece and the game was heading towards a 3-3 draw until Mark Bewick scored a last ditch winner to claim a thrilling win for the Fleece.

Liam Wooton starred for Redhouse as did Craig Ritchie for Fleece.

Hendon FC look to have got back into the groove as they recorded yet another win as they won 5-1 at home to FC Chesters.

Hendon welcomed back into the fold Robert McManus after his 6 month working holiday to London’s West End taking up the lead role in The Hobbit. Hendon started the brighter and Gareth Hill finished well into the top corner from outside the box to give the home side the lead. Chesters worked hard but Hendon were passing the ball well and playing some tidy one touch football and this resulted in Martin “canister” Jackson adding a second goal with a bullet header. Man of the match was a constant thorn in the visitors defence and it was his unselfish work that saw Steven Clark score Hendons third goal just before half time.

The second half started with chances for both teams and Hendon slipped back into a coma like state as they allowed Chesters to pull a goal back through Thomas Robason. This woke up Hendon and they grabbed a fourth goal as Jason Gargett played a one two with himself and finished well into the bottom corner. With the game looking safe Hendon brought on wily old veteran player manager Steve McAneny, the ‘Little General’ went on in midfield and tried to roll back the years but unfortunately he couldn’t roll enough of them back and resembled an out of condition and confused Diego Maradona in his later years. Late in the game Hendon grabbed their fifth goal of the game as the visiting keeper and Rush collided and this allowed Steven Clark to slot into an empty net.

Farringdon Dolphin returned to the top of the league as they produced a spirited and determined display to win 3-1 in a fiery encounter against Three Horse Shoes.

The Dolphin had the best of the chances early on after Shoes' McGregor headed back to McHenry who could only brillantly tip onto his own post and out for a corner. From the resulting corner star man Karl ‘Vidic’ Adams rose like a salmon but his header cannoned back off the post. The Shoes thought they had grabbed the lead as Dixon netted with a well executed shot but the referee disallowed the goal for a foul on the keeper. Farra did eventually get their noses in front when a Liam Frame corner was met by Andy Place who crashed a header into the roof of the net. Three Horse shoes started to put a bit of pressure on the Dolphin goal and they got the rewards on the stroke of half time when a corner was only half headed away by the impeded Adams but the ref didnt see the striker all over the Farras defender and it fell to David Dixon to fire through a crowd of bodies.

Horse Shoes had a Jordyn Moore effort straight after the restart well saved by Adam "Beefy" Heath in the Farra goal and that was all Horse Shoes had on target as The Dolphin bossed the second half pinning their opponents back and deservedly went ahead on 58minutes when Dale Spence jinked into the centre and laid Place into the channel, he still had a lot to do and rounded the keeper and finished with aplomb. The Dolphin increased their lead further on 75 minutes as Spence played a delightful ball over the top and Andy Place smashed a left foot volley into the bottom corner to complete a perfect hattrick.

Hetton New Inn won 3-1 against a below par Aquatic Sports who grabbed a consolation goal through Mark Dickinson. Aquatic man of the match was Niall Quinn.

Hendon Grange are up into second place in the league as they outgunned a toothless Colonel Prior 7-2.

FIRST DIVISION

University of Sunderland maintained their fine league form as they won 5-4 away to Hollycarrside in what was a thrilling encounter.

The students were cruising at 2-0 after two well taken goals in
the first half through Danny Wilson and Jordan Birnie. Hollycarrside got a

Hollycarrside levelled just after the break with terrific strike from Nathan O’Neill. The University
of Sunderland keeper Brad Mitchell was injured when he attempted to stop
the shot landing badly on his shoulder, off he went to be replaced with the
diminutive centre forward Danny Wilson.

Hollycarrside took advantage and scored a further 2 goals from Anthony
Powell and Scott Tench and were well on top at this stage, however
University got back into the game when Anthony Powell was sent off for
denying an obvious goal scoring opportunity after clearly deliberately
handling the ball on the goal line, Jordan Birnie hauled his side level as he
converted the penalty. Down to 10 men Hollycarrside could not cope with
the students as they took control and added 2 further goals
with Jack Halliday and Andrew White to run out 5-4 winners. To cap an awful
day for Hollycarrside Jordan Ewan was shown a red card for dissent.

FC Whitburn eased to a 5-1 win against winless AC Sunderland thanks to goals from Ryan Tones (2), Alex Eleazer, Liam Donnelly and Jonny Shaw. The visitors replied with a consolation goal from Leighton Conley.

John Bailey was impressive for Whitburn as was Matty Brennan for AC Sunderland.

Seaham Harkers Bar fought hard to win 4-1 against a resurgent Bluestone Contruction. Paul Howe replied for Bluestone but it was all in vain as the Seaham lads won the game with goals coming from man of the match Matthew Mustard (2), Shane Docherty and substitute Darren Ruddick.

Shiney Row Wheatsheaf won 4-2 at home to Wearside Athletic. The Wheatsheaf scored through Wayne Thompson (2), James Parish and Paul Bridge, Wearside replied with strikes from John hope-Hindmarsh and Scott Critchlow.

Gleneagles kept up their impressive goalscoring form as they won 6-2 at home to East Durham Spartans.

Gleneagles had Ethan Lee to thank as he rifled in a hattrick and was backed up with further efforts from James ‘Worzel’ Shickle, Alan Surtees and Tony Hammond. Star man for the home side was Jamie ‘Blue Bullet’ Cole who had a storming game in midfield.

Victoria Gardens won 4-2 at Times Inn thanks to the goalscoring efforts of Chris Usher (2), Graham Bosanko and Chris Wasey.

Mark Wasey shone for Victoria Gardens.

ALAN HOOD MEMORIAL TROPHY

First Division highfliers Wearside Wildcats caused an upset as they won on penalties to dump Hall Farm Blakeneys out of the competitions after both sides fought out an entertaining 3-3 draw.

The Wildcats took the lead midway through the first half after Thomas Fosters corner found its way into the net. Hall Farm came out all fired up in the second half and quickly scored two goals through Richard Timm and Phil Dorian. The game was end to end and it looked like Lee Bogans men would march into the next round but Wildcats equalised through Dan Callaghan to send the tie into extra time.

The Wildcats took the lead early into extra time as Aaron Dugan pounced and this looked to have secured victory but in the dying minutes up popped Farms Guy Granger to level the scores and take the game to penalties. It was Wildcats who kept their nerves intact throughout the shoot out as they prevailed 5-4 to advance to the next round.

West End Potters won their first game of the season as they progressed by winning a penalty shootout against Park View after the game had finished 1-1 after extra time.

MATCH REPORT FOR SAT 17^TH SEPTEMBER 2011

The majority of the league took a week off from the bread and butter of the League for a taste of the cup action with the first round of the Alan Hood Memorial Trophy being played.

FC Chesters 4-7 Victoria Gardens

FC Chesters start to the season was 3 straight wins followed by 3 defeats its was hoped to find a the winning away again when they meet First Division outfit Victoria Gardens. On the day the Chester were desperately short of bodies so Team Manager Tony Dunlop had to don the boots.

Vic Gardens started the brighter of the two teams putting Chesters ageing back four under the cosh straight away with the early chances being squandered. Chester’s first attack saw the boss play a delightful ball over the fullback to young nephew Dunlop to play in Gareth Mence to slot in the far corner for 1-0 for a good move from the home side 1-0.

On 20mins though, Vic Gardens were level after Grame Bosanko ran onto the long ball, which caught the back line static to lob the ball over the advancing keeper 1-1. By this point the visitors should have been at lest 3 goals up.

Chesters were holding on for most of the first half and were giving a soft penalty from a long throw the ball bounced for a handball shout which was given but was very soft. Jon Wardle stepping up to slam the ball in with ease 2-1 at half time.

The second half stared no better for Chesters and it was soon 2-2 from Chris Usher. Ben Stokoe soon made it 3-2 with a screamer of a 30yarder unstoppable in the top corner.

Chris Usher made it 4-2 for Vic Gardens but sub Simon Meah give Chesters hope knocking in for 4-3, looked like game on with 20 to play. Chesters started to apply some pressure but only for 5 minutes though with keeper James Rowantree making fine saves to Denigh.

Chris Wasey came on for Gardens and with his second touch he found the net from a stupid off side shout to tap in round the keeper 5-3, Chris soon got his second once again from poor defending & goal keeping 6-3.

Anthony Clifton got his deserved goal from a clearance from the keeper hitting the ball straight at him for the deflection to go into the empty net 6-4.

Chris Usher go his hat-trick from a long range shot straight through the keepers hands for 7-4 just before full time. Chris Usher could have quite easily got MOTM but for Ben Stokoe all round team play being involved in nearly everything Gardens threw at us.

Just goes to show when key players are missing then Chester struggles to find any quality. They must do better in games to come but credit must go to Victoria Gardens who played awesome for the full 90 from front to back and well deserved the win.

HENDON GRANGE 3 FARRINGDON DOLPHIN 5

Farringdon a started with Brett Gillatt replacing Dale Spence who was late after work and a 16yr old youngster between the sticks in Sam Robinson replacing Martin Jackson who was unavailable. The Grange got off the mark first when in the 10 minute when their Striker capitalised on a defensive mistake and rifled into the roof of the net to give Robinson no chance. Robinson had 2 more fly past him before the half hour mark as Farringdon Dolphins worse start to a game. Matters went from bad to worse when Brett Gillatt limped off with hamstring trouble and was replaced by Dale Spence who immediately sparked Farringdon into life. His 1st touch on the halfway line and burst into the box evading a couple of challenges only to be brought down in the box penalty. Ian "Reggie" Redman scored his 1st for his new club sending the keeper the wrong way. Just before half time it was 2-3 when Place sent Spence in the channel who jinxed inside and blasted into the bottom corner. The Grange just couldn’t cope. The 2nd half was all Farringdon and they got the equaliser on 60mins when Makin burst down the flank and crossed for captain Michael Noble to rise and bullet a header in off the bar. Rathbone had the Granges only chance of the 2nd half but missed a guilt edged header with the goal at his mercy. That was Farringdon only scare and was looking for the winner and sent on 16yr old youngster Adam Frame to go and get it. He instantly made his mark as his corner was met with an overhead kick from close range by Micky Woodward on 85mins to make it 4-3. Adam Frame then burst clear straight after but hit the keeper with a poor effort. He did get his goal though on the stroke of fulltime when Noble sent him clear again and his effort nestled in the bottom corner for 5-3 and an amazing comeback from 3. 0 down. Need to start better boys but cant fault your never say die attitude...

FARRINGDONA MOTM: DALE SPENCE

Silksworth Golden Fleece progressed to the next round of the Alan Hood Trophy with a comfortable win over first division side Wearside Athletic.

Despite having a number of players missing due to injury and suspension The Fleece took an early lead with a Nathan Doran strike, he was soon followed onto the score sheet when the impressive Shaun Wilkie made it 2-0. On the stroke of half time Doran grabbed his second of the game to effectively end the contest.

The second half started just like the first, with Doran completing his hat-trick in stylish fashion, Athletic attempted to make a game of it by gabbing the goal of the game, a 20 yard thunderbolt leaving Hiles in the Fleece goal with no chance, making it 4-1.

Substitute Darren Davie, making his second Fleece debut, scored a deft back heel with his first touch and then quickly added his second making the score 6-2, all that was left was for Athletic to score a last minute consolation making the final score Golden Fleece 6 -2 Wearside Athletic.

Another Premier Division scalp was taken in the competition when University of Sunderland ran out 3.2 winners over Three Horse Shoes with goals from Danny Wilson 2 and Jordon Birnie 1 for the University. Jordyn Moore replied twice for the shoes.

AC Sunderland have had a awful start to the season and that spilled over in the Alan Hood when the meet Hollycarrside who were at full strength and the young side went down 9.1 with goals from two a piece from Leighton Stevenson and Cory Bell, a Nathan O’Neil hat-trick and one each from Luke Bell and Scott Tench. Layton Conley replied for AC.

Hetton New Inn making there first appearance in the Cup go through to the next round with a 3.0.win over FC Whitburn Scott Taylor, Liam Perverley and Michael Smith the Scorers.

Hylton Colliery flying high in the premier division meet the County Minor Cup holders Redhouse who are undergoing a lot of change within there team are still looking for there first win of the season by the Colliery were not going to let that happen with a cracking 4.0 away win. Dean Machin, Matthew Raine, Alan Golightly and super sub mark Cresswell got on the score sheet.

Other results in the competition saw Colonel Prior going down 5.1 to Hendon, Shiney Row Wheatsheaf picking up a 5.3 win over East Durham Spartans and Gleneagles on they debut in the competition go through to the next round with a 4.3 win over Times Inn.

Elsewhere in the league Hall Farm Blakneys pick up three valuable points with a 2.1 win over Aquatic Sports with sub Andrew Steele netting twice and Jamie Lovert for Aquatic.

In the first division Wearside Wildcats stretched there lead in the division to for pints with a 4.3 away win over Seaham Hawker, and Park View were out played by a Blue Stone Contraction side 6.0.

MATCH REPORT FOR SAT 10^TH SEPTEMBER 2011

PREMIER DIVISION

Hylton CW kept up their excellent form as they ended Farringdon Dolphin 32 match unbeaten record with a hard fought 3-1 win at the Billy Hardy Centre.

Farra didnt start well at all and Hylton had the better of the chances and got their noses in front on 25minutes when Machin went clear in the channel and Jackson wiped him out in the box to give away a penalty, there was no card for Jackson but he was unable to keep out Snowball's penalty. Farra immediately changed it and went 3-5-2 and started to get on top and on 35minutes they were level as Place scampered down the wing and crossed for Kris Johnson who timed his run to perfection to volley home. Just before half time Hylton went ahead as a Snowball corner was met by Alan Golightly who nodded home a free header.

Strong words were had at half time from the Dolphin management and they should’ve at least been on level terms as Dale Spence was thwarted by the keeper twice and Makin fluffed the rebounds. Hylton were constantly pinned back and Farra should have had two penalties when Dale Spence was clear twice again within minutes of each other and both times scythed down for stonewall penalties and even the 60+ fans there watching were chuckling when they were not given. Amid all the chaos that followed Mark Swindle was dismissed for dissent. This allowed Hylton to gain some kind of control of the game and they did just that as Jordan Cook scored a 30 yard volley that went in off the underside of the bar to clinch the win for his side.

Hendon FC put the loss of their star striker behind them as they won 6-0 at home to Aquatic Sports. Maccas men had James ‘Jiffy’ Dickinson to thank as he led the visitors defence a merry dance all afternoon as he plundered 5 goals past them, Jason Gargett hit the other Hendon goal.

Mark Dickinson shone for Aquatic.

Hendon Grange put in a workmanlike performance as they won 3-0 against Oddfellows.

The game kicked off and Hendon forced the first chances of the game but all the efforts were off target. Oddfellows were struggling to get into the game and created no real chances in the opening 15minutes, Hendon then forced veteran keeper Joe Thompson into a couple of decent saves and were looking the more likely of the two teams to open the scoring. Oddfellows though did create their first real effort and should of took the lead when good work down the left from Stevie Allan and Shaun King saw the ball crossed towards Andy Smith but his powerful header struck the post. Oddfellows started to get more in the game and created a few more chances but couldn’t find the net. On the stroke of half time Oddfellows had a great chance to take the lead when Aaron Donkin sent Andy Smith clean through but his left foot effort went narrowly wide.

Hendon come out the second half the better side and after 50 minutes took the lead when a right wing cross found Luke Morrow at the back post and he made no mistake to fire past Joe Thompson. Hendon then went searching for a second and nearly got it but on this occasion the crossbar come to the visitors rescue. Oddfellows though went up the other end and won a penalty when Luke Morrows tackle caught Andy Smith, Paul Simon stepped up to take it but his penalty was well saved. With Oddfellows heads down after the penalty miss Hendon doubled their lead when Steve Langton ran unchallenged from the half way line to the edge of the box and his low drive found the bottom corner. With Oddfellows chasing the game they start taking risks and piled forward but just couldn’t create any clear cut chances with Hendon defending well. With Oddfellows leaving gaps at the back Hendon were very dangerous on the counter and if their final ball was a bit better they could of scored a couple more goals. Hendon though did put the game to bed on 75 minutes when they won a penalty and Paul Thompson made no mistake and scored.

Silksworth Golden Fleece won 3-1 against FC Chesters with their goals coming from Shaun Wilkie, Ashley Ridden and Kris Tyson. Chesters replied with an own goal.

Hetton New Inn scraped a 1-0 win against West End Potters thanks to a Lee Jarvis goal, the Potters can count themselves unlucky as they were thwarted by home keeper Chris Errington who put in an excellent performance with some top drawer saves.

Hall Farm Blakeneys went on a goalscoring spree as they annihilated Colonel Prior 14-0 with star of the show Ross Taylor banging in 6 goals, further goals came from Dean Smith who hit a hattrick, Phil Dorian (2), Trevor Todd, Michael Smith and man of the match Kyle Lax.

It has to be said that despite this morale sapping defeat, Colonel Prior can be commended for playing the whole game with only 8 players who ran their socks off. Hopefully with a new manager in place and a few new players they may turn the corner and get their first win of which may be sooner rather than later.

FIRST DIVISION

Seaham Harkers Bar welcomed Victoria Gardens to their new pitch at New Drive (Wembley to the locals) in Seaham and it was a 4-0 win for the home side. The Seaham side started the game strongly with some good play in what was very strong windy conditions keeping the ball on the floor and the first goal came from a neat finish from top goalscorer Matthew Mustard. Home skipper Shane Docherty soon made it two before half time after a good one-two with Mustard.

The second half saw Victoria Gardens come out a different team attacking more with wind on their backs coming close a few times and but new Seaham keeper David Pipe was in imperious form. Seaham started to realise the game wasn’t over and they upped the tempo and Shane Docherty turned on the style with a cracking goal. The third goal killed the game and Matthew Mustard soon made it four to make sure of the points.

Shiney Row Wheatsheaf romped to a 11-4 home win against The Times Inn. Brett Rowntree led the way with a well taken hattrick, further goals came from Dean Wilkinson (3), Paul Bridge (2), Conor Glass, Adam Rowntree and an own goal.

Gleneagles won 12-2 against bottom side AC Sunderland with goals coming from Ethan Lee who helped himself to five goals. Craig Collins (3), Alan Surtees (2), Owen West and Ryan Gordon hit the rest of Gleneagles goals. AC Sunderland hit back with a brace from Aidan Young, there star man was Jason McLaren.

University of Sunderland won 2-1 in a tight duel with FC Whitburn thanks to a Carl Thomas double. Whitburn hit back with a Lee Carrick strike.

Keith Robinson starred for The Uni lads as did John Bailey for Whitburn.

Hollycarrside beat the inform Bluestone Construction 3-2 in what was a very hard fought game. Ian Douglas and Joe Taboun replied for Bluestone. The home side won the game thanks to a double strike from Callum Hellens and a goal from man of the match Brian Bell.

Wearside Athletic won 6-3 at Park View with double strikes from John Hope-Hindmarsh, Stephen Goldsmith and Brett Chapman. The View replied with goals from star man Robert Briggs (2) and Robert Russell.

Wearside Wildcats grabbed top spot with a 3-1 home win against East Durham Spartans. Man of the match Aaron Dugan hit two goals for Wildcats and was backed up with a fine effort from Andrew Leadbitter. A consolation goal was scored by Alan Robinson for the Spartans whose star man was Jared Jones.
