Aquatic Sports v Hylton CW 22/02/14 Wearside Combination Premier League
|Posted: 23 February 2014 at 3:09pm | IP Logged
Following the postponement of last weeks fixture against Whitburn Village, Aquatic entertained high flying Hylton CW. Aquatic went into this game looking at avenge the 10-3 (I think) mauling earlier in the season.
Things weren't looking good when the Fat Rum Pirate and Jonny one Week in Three turned up to a car park full with only Hylton players. With Danny G (work), Fergy (work), Danger Grainger (work), Daz Morse (kids), Incredible Sulk (sulking), Kev (holiday), Dan the Cow Pie Man (AWOL) and Chicken Legs (being a ponce) all missing, it looked like it would be an uphill struggle just getting 11 players out!
However, things quickly took a turn for a better as the cars and players rolled in.
Aquatic started the game with a surprisingly strong team
GK Kylos
RB The Fat Rum Pirate (yes RIGHT back)
LB- The Ox
CB Gav Foot
CB Sean Mc
LM- Tom Twenty Minutes
RM- Young Fisk
CM- Victor Meldrew
CF- Jonny One Week In Three
Gav Quinn, Captain Jack Sparrow Legs, Shack
So all in all not a bad team considering those that were missing. In blustery conditions Meldrew's tactics for the toss were to kick downhill in the first half. As usual he lost the toss and Aquatic began the first half kicking uphill into the wind.
The game kicked off and Aquatic almost scored straight away when Tommy Twenty Minutes jinked past two defenders but dragged his shot just wide of the far post. The opening 15 minutes were scrappy with Hylton trying to play there elaborate passing game and Aquatic just trying to get the ball to go over the halfway line and not comeback.
When Aquatic finally got the ball over the halfway line from a Kylos clearance, Jonny One Week in three was able to flick the header on to Critter. Critter took the ball down beautifully and smashed the ball into the top corner with an outrageous half volley from 20 yards. The keeper remained rooted to the spot. Another Critter special he's having his own goal of the season competition!
Hylton were clearly rattled by this and began moaning at each other and the referee over every little thing.
Aquatic grew in confidence and looked dangerous on the break.
Although Hylton were pressing the Aquatic backline was being marshalled by Gav Foot and the Fat Rum Pirate and rarely looked like conceding.
Hylton did carve out a chance though when a through ball was misjudged but Kylos was quick off his line to thwart the oncoming Hylton striker and his save resulted in a corner.
Aquatic went in at half time a goal to the good but a second goal was very much needed.
After all the good work in the first half, Aquatic conceded the equaliser almost immediately. Hylton made changes at half time and the newly inroduced left winger got in behind the Fat Rum Pirate following an excellent slide rule pass from Gav Greener, to fire in from an acute angle.
Aquatic made a substitution replacing Young Fisk with Captain Jack Sparrow Legs for his debut.
Aquatic however were not dismayed by this equaliser and when the Gav Foot broke up another Hylton attack Tommy Twenty Minutes got the ball on the right wing. His delightful cross teased the Hylton keeper Tyson off his line and Captain Jack Sparrow Legs rose above the Hylton centre half and delivered the knock out blow with a forceful header leaving Tyson on his arse.
2-1 Aquatic but the game was still in the balance and Hylton poured forward in an attempt to equalise and Gav Foot and Sean Mc had to be at their best to prevent any further goals.
With Hylton pouring forward the Hylton left winger again got in behind the Fat Rum Pirate but this time he was able to recover with a perfectly timed sliding tackle. With Hylton exposed Gav Foot played the ball to Billy who fed Tommy Twenty Minutes, a swift break and a clever one to between Tommy Twenty Minutes and Jonny One Week in Three saw Tommy break through and slip the ball between Tyson's legs for a third goal.
3-1 Aquatic. Hylton now sensed a defeat but with Aquatic tiring they were able to put the pressure on. Following a goalmouth scramble and a brilliant save from Kylos, a Hylton midfielder suggested that the referee was not being entirely unbiaised in his decision making and was promptly sent off for his protestations. Two words were used Cheating was one and the other word was the nasty C word I'm not allowed to print.
Gav Quinn was brought on as sub for Jonny One Week in Three in an effort to see the game out.
Hylton created another chance but their centre forward was once again unable to beat Kylos who made another fantastic save.
With ten minutes to go and the nippy left winger getting the better of the Fat Rum Pirate he sensibly signalled to the line for another substitution.
Jonny One Week in Three was brought back on with Gav Quinn moving to Right Back.
In a final attempt to save the game Hylton CW manager Barry Cook introduced himself. His only meaningful contribution was to skew badly wide from 7 yards out.
Aquatic Sports 3 Hylton CW 1
An excellent victory for Aquatic in what has been a rather disappointing season but things definitely look more postive after this result.
